It seems fitting that on the first post of our updated website we pay tribute to a game-changer in the world of sportbikes. This 2022 Honda may not be vintage, but it is rare and significant. We hope you enjoy it!
20 years after it’s introduction to the world, in Nov 2012, CycleWorld wrote a retrospective review about the original bike. “In the spring of 1992, Honda unveiled the motorcycle that would change the way we think about sportbikes: the CBR900RR. On the surface, and eyeing the component parts, it was nothing special: a garden-variety liquid-cooled inline four wrapped in a twin-spar aluminum frame. The CBR even had a bit of old tech in the form of a conventional front fork and 16-inch front wheel, whereas the competition had moved on to inverted forks and 17-inch hoops. No, it was all kind of ho-hum for the time. That is, until you saw how much it weighed.”

Looking through our archives, most of the 1993 Honda CBR900RRs that we have featured here were the black and silver model. It seems that whenever a rare red, white and blue one came up, it had high miles and lots of love, lol. Tad covered one in 2019 on RSBFS with his usual wit, “The result of this unconventional thinking was one of the all time great sportbikes of all time, and was loved by street racers and hooligans then, and remembered fondly by the ones that managed to survive into middle age.”
This shows us why the CBR is such an amazing anniversary edition. Besides the fact that the original model was a game-changer, the red, white and blue model was ridden so much that they had to recreate it so we can have some with low miles that we can ride some more, lol.
