To say that the Ducati Panigale made a splash when it entered the market would be an understatement. Ducati fans have a strange aversion to change. They like what they like, and want to keep it that way. There are a few core tenements that define a Ducati to many. The sound the dry clutch makes, the marvelous desmo valve train, and the iconic steel trellis frame.
Well with the introduction of the Panigale Ducati decided to ditch the traditional trellis frame in favor of a lighter and more radical approach. The over 200hp engine is now a fully stressed member of the machine. This allowed for a reduction in weight to 362 pounds. The cams are no longer driven by belts that need to be changed every couple of years, in their place are modern gears and chains. Alloy tank so no expansion issues. This package was a huge step for the Italian brand.
Electronically adjustable suspension was added to an already impressive electronics package. It was clear that Ducati wanted to showcase their vast catalog of technology. Often times writers talk about “Slow Bike Fast” or how you can not fully utilize the performance of the top tier bikes on the road. Well sometimes it is just fun to have the fastest and best thing that money can buy.
From The Seller’s eBay Listing:
Hello, for sale is my pristine Ducati Panigale 1199R. This motorcycle has been owned since brand new by my father and I have owned it for the past 3 years. Although it has 29,800 miles on the odometer it is in excellent cosmetic condition and runs like brand new.
Tremendous attention to detail was invested to make sure the motorcycle was perfectly maintained.
Whoever wins this motorcycle will love this bike! Happy bidding and feel free to send me a message for any questions.
Thanks.
If the past has shown us anything about collecting, we know that the first of a kind is always something special. The 1199R may have been controversial when new, but the years have shown us that it was the way of the future. Ducati still continues to refine the platform. Other little interesting bits are that this was the last R to feature the Termignoni exhaust, latter R models came with an Akrapovic. This is also the only generation of R Ducati Superbike that gets the semi active electronic suspension as homologation rules changed.
This specific example is rather interesting. It remains in remarkably standard trim, and while the listing does not offer details on what has been done over the years, it does claim to have always been properly maintained. What really makes this one stand out is the opportunity it could offer a buyer. This listing is being used as a straight auction, a refreshing use of eBay. The reserve price is unknown at this time. The one thing that will hold this bike back in terms of price is the mileage. With the better part of 30,000 miles on the clock there will obviously be a reduction in value, the question is how much. Personally of all the things that could detract from a bikes value, damage, poor service history, mechanical issues, aftermarket changes or something more serious, mileage always stands out as being the least worrisome. This could be a great buy for something that is looking to score a deal on an epic bike. If the miles really are a deal breaker for you, there is This Bike. Two thousand miles, but a $21,500 asking price.
Ended reserve not met at $12,111.00
