This bike tells a story.
It doesn’t need a patina or period correct stickers for us to know it’s special. At a glance it makes an impact. Then when you start to take it in, looking at all of the details, it just keeps getting better. From the diamond pattern on the seat to the spoked wheels, then the details on the BSA burst along the gas tank and wait, there is another BSA emblem with a wing and a lightening bolt. Okay, now I really want to know the story.
After a little digging I learned that BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms Co Ltd, so the company started selling firearms in 1861. It branched into motorcycles in 1910 according to the BSA website. BSA continued to manufacture motorcycles until 1972… and now it is having a rebirth. The brand was revived in 2021. In my humble opinion, this rebirth of the brand only makes the vintage BSA bikes more appealing.

Mike Hailwood on an early version of a Lightening Clubman, racing in the rain.
(Found on the Classic Bike Hub)
Over fifty years ago, Mike Hailwood stole Triumph’s thunder by winning the Production class at the 33rd Hutchinson 100.
Tip-toeing a Lightning Clubman round a treacherous Silverstone he beat half a grid of Triumphs to record his third victory of the day. Not surprisingly the media proclaimed it ‘Hailwood’s Hutch’. Peter Crawford tells the story.
