Our man in Switzerland is back with a new guest post for those who may be shopping in Europe. -dc
Here’s a beautiful Ducati Super Sport 900 otherwise known as the 900SS. The bike seems in great shape and this is not often the case for these models which sold quite well prior to the release of the Ducati myth model 916. As all the SS models, this has an air cooled 2 valves per cylinder engine. On the road these bikes are great fun enjoying good brakes, an excellent chassis and a torquey engine. Don’t expect much peak power (a “simple” Suzuki SV650 will have similar output) but with these Ducati’s the excitement comes from a mix of low frequency noise, smooth power delivery from low rpm and refined handling. In the right hands, driven smoothly and trying to keep momentum it will still earn its respect on a twisty road. Add to this a very reasonable comfort given by the high clip ons and there is fun and affordable Italian red.
The owner says that the aftermarket mufflers are Termignoni (as it should be on any Ducati). It has an open dry clutch cover for the pleasure of the rattle noise. The single seat is not original but I think it looks great together with the white frame….such a reminder of the much more exclusive and highly expensive at that time (1990) 851 model. The original seat, rear cowls and mufflers are obviously included in the package.
