While 2008 model years are rarely included here, I think we all agree that this limited edition Ducati isn’t a just a sticker and number job. With some of the most exclusive technology ever offered on a production bike for the street, these are very special indeed and still draw lots of attention when seen in the wild. That’s because many were instantly added to collections and used more for display than for riding. But this one is different having covered over 2700 miles for which we applaud the seller. This particular example is being offered by MotoCorsa in Portland which is right in my backyard. Wish it was me doing the shopping!

2008 Ducati DD16 Desmosedici for sale on eBay
from the seller:
This Ducati has been well loved and ridden as it was intended. It’s in excellent condition with only 2274 original miles
Incredible Moto GP technology, sound, power, and performance in a undeniably potent and sexy exterior. The D16RR is literally a Moto GP bike built for the street. At the heart of the D16RR is a compact 989cc V-Four engine inside a version of Ducati’s trademark tubular-steel trellis frame. The engine uses the same bore and stroke as that used in the 2006 race bike the D16GP6. It uses the “twin pulse” firing order in which the crankpins are offset by 70 degrees to generate what Ducati terms as “soft pulse timing.”
Equipped with the race ECU and exhaust system the D16RR achieves 180HP at 13800 rpm at the rear wheel. Don’t miss your chance to own not only a work of art, but a motorcycle with true World Championship winning DNA! This bike comes with everything that came from the factory when you purchesed a new D16RR as picured below.
Buy It Now price of $49K is surprisingly right about in line with current market and past sales around $45K.
Anybody else notice that it still seems that whomever makes those little numbered limited edition triple clamp plates for Ducati still can’t get it right- they always seem to be corroded and need refinishing. Kind of ironic coming from the company that plays the limited edition game more than any other manufacturer.
Right on Mike, during the ‘916’ series shape, it was like someone farted at the factory and they’d throw out an SP or limited edition!
Hi collector, how did farting cause corrosion on the plate?
Is it a chemical reaction or did the person who was supposed to make the plates not do them proper because he had terrible gas.
As a collector you would know a lot more about this than I would
Problem is you might as well buy one just to look at regardless of the mileage. So buy a cheap one!
With most collectables, you can ride them occasionally an keep their value. With this particular model, you can ride it occasionally but never know if you bought one of the many that are a time bomb of problems. You would be hard pressed to find a motorcycle with as many issues.
Really is a shame for such a bold motorcycle.
1500 produced. There was a rocker spring issue in the first 800 or so bikes that can/will break and cause catastrophic engine failure. It was and $8000 bill to replace from Ducati dealership. Ducati replaced under warranty but didnt do a recall. My radiator cracked at 400 miles causing the engine to overheat. $4000 part from Ducati and took a month to get, also under warranty. My dash cracked at 8 months, Ducati refused to replace, even under warranty. Expensive lesson for me.
Farts consist primarily of nitrogen, the principal gas in air, along with a significant amount of carbon dioxide. A typical breakdown of the chemical composition of farts is:
Nitrogen: 20-90%
Hydrogen: 0-50% (flammable)
Carbon dioxide: 10-30%
Oxygen: 0-10%
Methane: 0-10% (flammable)
The Ducati factory emlpoys a large female population. The smaller female hands aid in the engine and chassis assembly process. As we all know, Italian women are known for an elevated flatulence level when compared to other societies. Flatulence is defined in the medical literature as “flatus expelled through the anus”. The root of these words is from the Latin flatus – “a blowing, or a breaking wind”…..a “fart” if you will.
Any one of these gasses in excessive amounts can degrade the effectiveness of most Trivalent Chromate metal finish coatings used in the European market place.
You guys are killing me LOL!!!

You guys miss the point of this bike. It is a collectors bike, meant to satisfy the interest of someone who wants the closest thing to a MotoGP bike that is street legal. It is a ridiculous to consider it a bike for riding, as a 200 HP race- oriented machine like this does not lend itself to 35 MPH trips to Target. No different than a six-figure Ferrari, as guys who own those care enjoy owning them as much as, if not more than driving them. The bike is impractical, unrealistic, and dare I say, implausible. But those very same descriptors is what also makes it such an amazing machine, despite its shortcomings or mechanical issues.
Would be the greatest bike for a Windy Ridge run
Quite possibly the funniest feedback page I’ve read in many years of following this site! Toot-toot!
It might be the “closest thing to a GP bike” out there, but when its based off (the old version) of one of the most infamously terrible Moto GP bikes and team then who really cares? What bragging rights does this really get you? If it was a production based RCV or M1…that would be a whole other story. That would be bad ass.
And yes before I get flamed I do realize that this bike is based off of the older/ original Moto GP chasis and motor, not the 800cc frameless carbon chasis that Rossi and Hayden rode. But it still is a POS. Most Ducatisti will even tell you that a 1098R is faster around a track than this bike.
Every time I see one of these I just have to laugh. I am not a very fast track rider myself, but I came up on one of these going about 40 mph slower than me out of turn 6 at Putnam Park …and about ass- packed the owner-he was going so slow. But I guess at least he was riding it, on the track even. More like a parade lap though.
For the money I would rather have an RC30 AND an OW01, and maybe some cash left over to build my man cave.
It’s art. I just want to park it in my living room and stare at it……………and the sound in real life is just incredible.
There is a reason why you rarely see production number 1000-1500 for sale.
If your going to spend the money, it may as well be on one that isn’t going to explode on you. Do the research on the cost of OEM parts from DNA (Which will be non available in just over a year). That may change your mind!!! Lolololol
I would love to see the value of your collectable when you need to replace an engine which is no longer available.
Possibly the real investment is to buy one, wait a few years, then part it out to those who long to keep one running, for 5 times the investment!
All of the above spoken by educated, articulated and vastly knowlegdable (spelling!) individuals with every viewpoint relevant and worth considering.
BUT!!! For me it took only one view of a y/t clip of a dieci being violated on a dyno to think “I must have one of those just for the exhaust note”
Please post another DD16 so we can start this thread again….awesome LOL
This red devil cost less than the recent ads of “virgin” RG500 Gamma in Australia. I have RG and now it’s time to own this DD16…money, money, money..where are you hiding?
