Lets get the not so good news out of the way first — it’s been down but repaired. It was reportedly in a slow speed accident and very little evidence of the crash is left. What remains is a very low mileage bike that didn’t sell in great numbers in this country. But those in the know realize that 400’s are great fun and easy to approach. The CB1 weighs just under 400lbs and packs a respectable 55hp. With just 1,457 miles, most of those ponies should still be in the stable as well. As Mike pointed out in his recent FZR400 post, the price point is one of the best parts of these under-appreciated little bikes. This one has a buy-it-now of $4k. I’m halfway tempted myself to be honest!

1989 Honda CB1 for sale on eBay
from the seller:
Up for auction is a 1989 CB1 CB400F NC27. This is a low mile (1,439) bike that was originally owned by a Honda Dealership owner. The owner sold it when it was tipped over at low speed pulling away from a stop sign. The right engine crankcase cover, exhaust and rear blinker had road rash which has all been replaced. The engine crankcase cover was replaced with a very nice professionally repainted used part. The exhaust is a New Old Stock replacement as well as the blinker. During the gasket removal process on the crankcase cover some gasket removal spray got on the engine and took of some silver paint in small spots which can be seen in the photos. The bike has been serviced with new fluids and a battery. Everything else is original on the bike including the tires. It starts, runs and shifts through the gears excellent. There are no dents or scratches in the paint and the seat is very nice.
I own a 90 CB1 with less than 3kmi (when i bought her) that was spotted on non other place than here on RSBFS back in 7/12. dc, you should be more than halfway tempted if the BIN get closer to $3k from $4k, and be completely tempted when it reaches $3.2k. A lot of people are doing minimal research on the internet, or installing a club bar on an older bike, than calling it cafe or rare. CB1100R, RC30, NRs @750cc-rare. GB500, CB1, NT650-showroom duds then, cult following now.
Seems like it would make a great around town bike, a good learner for the missus, and a decent conversation piece. Still thinking…

Neat bike friend picked up a much more used one and not quite as nice for $800 currently getting redone he fitted a cbr900rr front forks / triple clamps can’t remeber what wheel was a honda wheel 17inch gonna try also putting a cbr 600 f2 rear wheel/swing arm on it.
The motor is easy for spares it is the same motor as the first generation cbr400’s from 87/88 – I had some killer bike finding karma last year two month’s before that traded a honda NT650 hawk for a kawie KR-1 smoker yes traded!!
Wow this is incredible! It sure makes me miss my CB-1. Hopefully examples this nice will be around when I have the cash to afford a toy like this.
Dan,
Your missus would love the CB-1! I have always said that its a great beginners bike! Its small, light weight, great handling, and a power band thats not intimidating. (Just tell her to keep it below 10 Grand) This is a great looking one! I have not seen one this clean in a very long time! I bought a ’90 back when they first came out. I also have a CB-1 race bike that has been an incredibly fun bike on the track! It does have a cult following. There are guys like me who still love them, then there are guys like Karl who miss them. My only concern would be the price. Thats what I paid for my first CB-1 back in 1990.
My pastor is learning to ride on one of these. Except that it is a major beater with 60K miles! Lots of scrapes, dents and tape holding it all together. But a testament to Honda reliability.
Is this the same guy that has been selling all the fantastic Ducatis the last 1 1/2 years. That would be interesting, have the Ducatis for eye candy but ride the Honda. LOL
I have been a lurker on this site for some time…but this time I had to leave a comment. There used to be a Honda dealership in Poplar Bluff, MO that had one of these in the showroom when they were brand new. I really loved this bike a lot for some reason. I still think it is one of the best looking motorcycles Honda has produced. The fit and finish on these were really on a high level too. At the same time, there was also the FZR400 and the Suzuki Bandit 400 on the market, but the CB-1 is the one I wanted. Unfortunately I was fresh out of high school and even this was too much for me to buy at the time. I remember that they had a blue one for a couple of years in the showroom because it was still there when the 900RR came out. And I believe it was marked down to something ridiculous like $2800.00. Rambling, just wanted to say there are great motorcycles and more than just ‘learner’ or ‘wife’ bikes.
