Straight from BaT
This 1985 Honda VF1000R is powered by a liquid-cooled 998cc DOHC V4 paired with a five-speed transmission, and its fully faired bodywork wears a red, white, and metallic blue Honda Racing-style livery. Features include electronic ignition, an electric starter, a four-into-two exhaust system, four Keihin carburetors, and gear-driven camshafts as well as a solo seat, air-adjustable suspension, ComStar alloy wheels, triple disc brakes, rear-set foot controls, and a side stand. The motorcycle spent time in Wisconsin before it was acquired by the selling dealer in 2022. This VF1000R is now offered in California with a clean Montana title.

20k miles
The adjustable clip-on handlebars are mounted above the top triple clamp, which fronts a 175-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an 11k-rpm redline, and a coolant temperature gauge as well as a row of five warning lamps. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 200 of which were ridden by the selling dealer.

Wheels and shocks and brakes, oh my!
Black-finished ComStar alloy wheels wear a 120/80-16 Bridgestone Battlax BT46 front tire and a 140/60-17 Metzeler ME 1 MBS rear tire. Air-adjustable suspension consists of a 41mm telescopic fork with red-finished lowers as well as a Pro-Link monoshock attached to the box-section cast alloy swingarm. Braking is from twin-piston calipers mounted over a pair of slotted floating rotors up front in addition to a single-piston caliper fitted over a slotted disc.

The liquid-cooled 998cc DOHC V4 features gear-driven camshafts as well as a solid-state electronic ignition system, an electric starter, and four 36mm Keihin carburetors. The four-into-two exhaust system was manufactured by Sankei and wears HMMJ4A stamps.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a self-adjusting hydraulically actuated clutch, a five-speed transmission, and a drive chain.

When I asked Red what makes this one so cool he said, “Come on man, that was it.”
Looking forward to seeing what Sunday/Monday looks like.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!

I love the way these look, and the tech just sounds so amazing. I have a craving to ride one. And everytime i see one I’m reminded of that episode of knightrider featuring a brand new 1985 version of this bike. In that episode, to this kid, the bike trumped the car on cool factor.
With all that, I will never buy one knowing my dinosaur of a CBR600F3 thoroughly crushes the VFR in every other way.
Ultimate cool time capsule! If you compare it to practical bikes you’ve missed the point…….
@GregP – Great point. Perspective is part of this whole vintage rare thing.
This is a long shot from the UK and I need help from anyone in the U.S
I have a Honda (RC51) VTR1000 SP2 and need some parts that don’t seem to be available anymore by HRC.
I’m looking for the seat undertray, rear indicators and the complete back light assemble.
If anyone could point me in the right direction regarding these parts it would be appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation

@Colin Try posting this on our FB page. I have seen people help each other out with parts on that page. Just search up Rare Sportbikes for Sale on FB. Good luck!
