If you didn’t have to coin to drop on the $22k RZ500 posted last week, don’t feel bad. Here is another shot at one of Yamaha’s 500cc smokers from back in the day. We have seen a decent run of RZ’s over the past few months, most of which being in good condition. Some of them have been fromCanada, as they were officially imported there and some in theUS. Lucky you, this one is located inTexasand comes with a title.
This bike might not be a bone-stock example, but it does have some quality modifications that look to be well thought out and tastefully done as well as a host of maintenance done recently. At first glance I can see a set of Yoshimura pipes and a Showa front end. I haven’t seen those much on the RZ’s, but those are two quality companies. The seller lists all the recent maintenance done to the bike.
From the seller:
This is a one in a million bike, lots of money recently spent servicing and refurbishing, very clean, pictures do not do justice to this jewel, well kept and maintained, adult owned, climatized garage kept. I am the second owner, I have owned this bike since 1992, I bought it in Mexico with 700 original kilometers, this is a Canadian model. You all better show me some serious love for this beautiful bike that has a number of upgrades aside numerous new parts . In perfect running condition, this bike hasn’t fouled plugs in years, every unit functioning properly, now with the addition of the V-Force3 reed valves this bike has turned into a beast, I am dead serious, it has made a world of difference, especially on the power band at high rpm’s. As you can see this bike has had a life of luxury pampered to the max, I am an older rider who is very conservative and extremely careful with my bikes, clear Texas Title, questions, encouraged, feel free to call me (visit auction to see phone number). I will accept paypal but prefer cashier’s check or wire transfer, I am sure you understand that a 2.9% fee from paypal would be a substantial amount of money for a bike of this value, please be advised that this bike is also being advertised locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime, happy bidding everyone and please show some serious love for this queen of beauty

Seems like a well put together bike that has had attention in all the right areas. Prices of these have been climbing steadily and I have no reason to believe there is any end in sight to that. Bidding is already active, but the Reserve remains in place. With the amount of work gone into this bike, mileage, and modifications, I would put the price of this one in the $13k range. You can check out the auction here and place you bid today!

I have never heard of Yoshimura making 2 stroke exhausts-those look like the stock exhausts to me. The forks are not Showa-those are stock forks-with even the Yamaha anti-dive system still evident. Not knocking you-as I think this site is great-and I’ve learned quite a bit on here about bikes I am not very familiar with. Just don’t want anyone reading on here to think they are getting something that’s not applicable.

Nice clean bike but, new reeds add no extra H.P.
Know for a fact that This is a bone stock Bike except for v-force 3 reeds and tires, carb rebuild while back, that’s all!!! The Motor is high mile stock(2-stroke miles and age) , he has done Nothing to it bone stock!!! Anyone who knows RZ500’s knows things have to be done to stock ones!!! No such thing as youshimura pipes it is just a sticker on stock pipes!!! Matter of fact he has a lot of stickers on it !!! Front forks are stock also once again a sticker!!! It does have a Cooling fan cut off switch such they all need!!! I own 3-RZ 500’s trust me!!! This is not a $13 grand bike more like a good place to start bone stock 8-9 grand bike ! With the years and miles on it I would bet motor ,seals, and bearings will need attention soon to be safe!!! It is a 27 yr old 2-stroke:) But it looks clean and would be a great place to start!!! These bike seam to be bring good money these days just don’t want any of you to be misled!!! From one enthusiasts to another:)
PS, It has a few other things replaced to as he noted in site but pretty much still a nice clean bone stock bike .
I do agree with Faster Frank. Here we have another old bike with old seals and other areas of the motor etc that have been untouched for 27 years. Yet these guys think they should be able to get a ton of $$$ for their bike as is except for some standard maintenance performed. Why would anyone spend $1800. on a carb rebuild and a set of reeds is beyond me. At $7K to $8k it would be an ok value. The RZ500 is far from equal to the RG but there may be a person who doesent care about price and has to have it.
Wow,rookie eBayer just bid it from $7200 to over 10 grand with over 1 day to go!!! I know what this bikes reserve is and their not even close!!! I kid you not!!!
I hate eBay rookies when I am trying to buy something but love them when i’am selling (if they pay ):) lol
Of course I could be thought a hypocrite , I just acquired a completely restored like new with all needed up grades 1985 RZ500 with tommy Crawford pipes, extra rear cylinder radiator , fan cut off switch, fuel shut off, Wilbur rear shox, up graded water pump from Germany all the needed updates lightly milled head, ect and all with Nos org parts in the complete motor and trans, carbs(Rick Lance built). And paid 15 grand 🙂 lol , it is a fantastic machine now!!! I own three RZ500’s trust me ,stock bikes need attention to be good bikes !!!
But for a stock org one ,no way!!!
And JoeRR your on the money about RG’s much better bikes, totally agree!!!:-)
****Do your home work ,Ask a lot of questions,be careful guys ,these bike are not cheap to rebuild and maintain !!! Just trying to help:)
“Newbie eBayer” may be a schill bidder.
Yeah , bet your right!!! Bump up bid buddies:)
Woke up to find it Went for buy it now price of $13,000.00 . Wow a stock one!!! Heck that should make my mine worth 20 grand !!! Lol ,crazy days!!! What bad a economy .
