Although in recent years BMW has moved into the sportbike segment in dramatic fashion with the HP2 series and then the S1000RR, prior to these a BMW motorcycles tended to be focused more on durability than drama. This meant that it was up to aftermarket companies to provide kits for those who wanted “a bimmer with some bite!”. Wulf Gerstenmaier was one of those companies, a West German company that made kits of specialized components for the K series bikes that were intended to enhance their sporting image, in addition to providing some protection for the rider. The equipment for the K100 first appeared in 1985 and comprises a full depth fairing, an abbreviated front mudguard, a new tail section and a complex light-weight casting incorporating rearset footrests for the rider and the pillion passenger together with neat rearset brake and gear levers.
1985 Wulf Gerstenmaier BMW K100 for sale on eBay
KBB lists current retail for a standard 1985 K at about 3k and current price is right around that…given BMW’s history of reliability and the rarity of this aftermarket offering, perhaps someone will decide to add to their collection?

from the seller:
What you see here is what is believed to be the only Wulf Gerstenmaier K100 in the U.S. and possibly the western hemisphere. No other example has been found through research on forums, etc. Wulf Gerstenmaier was an accomplished motorcycle racer from Germany (German Champion/raced at Isle of Man) who after his career ended started fabricating body kits for Porsche as well as BMW motorcycles. Very few of these K100 kits were ever built (less than 100-150 ). This bike is #37 as you can see in pic. It was brought into US and assembled by a dealer in San Francisco in 1988.
Bike has 29541miles and is in good running condition with brand new Pirelli Sport Demon tires. Baumeister rear sets and clip-ons, Fox shock, Kerker slip-on. An absolute pleasure to ride. Being near 30 years old there are some paint/cosmetic imperfections which I will point out in pics. Nothing serious and overall bike shows very well as you can see. No dents or major scratches. The only thing I can think of that needs to be addressed is the speedometer has started to cut out/bounce on me intermittently the last couple rides.
And my OCD kicks in again. . .
Beemer = BMW motorcycle
Bimmer = BMW car
One word = Fugly ! Sorry , just my humble , not so subtle opinion . To be fair I like the K1 and I even had my Dads’ old K75s for a while (though I was too young to appreciate it @ the time ) . I don’t like the way the pipes finish either . Obviously there will be those who disagree .
hmmm.. lots of the early sportbikes were kind of “fugly”…take a look at the first gen suzuki gxr-750 for example or the ducati 851. they eventually evolved into some pretty nice looking rides….I think owning this would be kind of like owning one of those
It looks far better than a K1!! I think it is a big improvement over that.
Thanks for listing my bike fellas! Kind of funny I jumped on here like I do every morning to see something cool and there is my Wulf staring me in the face. Chris you obviously have much better taste than “RC30FREAk”. 🙂
Good luck with the sale Russell!

BLASPHEMY!!!
OK , I never do this , but to be fair I will be a big boy and apologise for my commentary . Fugly might have been too harsh a comment to have made . I do agree with Jason however that GSXRs were definitely not Fugly . So hopefully once again I have joined in the race of civilised man .
Welcome back RC30FREAK, welcome back.
Thanks Jason ! Glad to be back !
