It’s always worth taking note whenever the very exclusive Ducati Supermono comes to market. This is one has reportedly been upgraded to 95 spec with a slightly larger engine capacity. Current bid is high $30k’s which is probably at least the same amount left to reach reserve. But if your garage has been needing the ultimate in 90’s Ducati collectables, it’s time for that 2nd mortgage and a trip to Italy!

1993 Ducati Supermono for sale on eBay
from the seller:
One of very few factory built, originally 550cc but upgraded to 570cc 1995 specs. All original, very good conditions.
Ride and collect! Bullet proof investment.
I like the race slick on the back with the crappy street tire on the front for “storage” .
Jeez, Along with the Supermono check out the bikes in the backround.
as I understand this, theses bikes were built between the 888 racing and the 916 for a mono series. There is one on display at Fay Myers motorcycles in Denver and its sexy but not a “I-gotta-have-it!” . Personally, I think I would like a 888 racing more.

currently at $101,500.00 and reserve not met; a lot of bidders!
$110k, ten hours left to go. How much is this thing actually worth? This is crazy.
I never professed to be a Ducati expert . That being said I think these went for about 40 K ish new….. Someone please do correct me if I am wrong . Great for the seller that it is at or over 110 K . However as people mentioned …is it really worth it ? You could have some really exotic older GP bikes or Superbikes like maybe nearly an old RC45 WSB bike with spares or a nice older RG500(GP bike) or a YZR500…..TZ750 with spares again ……. I could go on ……
I fully expected this one to be around $100k, but not sure how much farther we need to go to meet reserve…

Not to rain on a parade, but you never really know what something is valued at until after the reserve is met. Prior to that, it is not all that unusual for parties associated with the item to have placed bids knowing that as long as it is under reserve there will be no commitment and they can push the perceived value. Sometimes this is valuable for after auction private sales to “prove” a high failed auction value that helps set the bar higher than it would have been without the auction. Cheap advertising. I’m not saying that is what is going on in this auction, but unless you know the party with the current high bid you really don’t know until the reserve is met.
Even them I have personally witnessed sales of vintage motorcycles pushed to high reserves, a party related to the seller “winning the auction” and no sale actually taking place. The owner pays the auction fee, the bike remains in his possession and he can use the winning bid price to validate his high asking price in future private sales. It’s a Facebook world…..
Just looking at the E-Bay specs:
bidder o**t has bid 11 times in the past 30 days, 100% of them were on items for sale by this seller. In the past six months, the bidder has had 18 retractions.
Bidder a**a (high bidder) has had 5 total bids in the last 30 days; 100% of these were on items for sale by this seller. He/she has had one bid retraction on this sale, and 25 retractions in the past six months.
A little suspect, don’t you think.
The last seemingly real bidder was

Excellent call Chris.
At minimum your conspiracy theory is a useful thing for buyers to keep in mind.
If true, this is specifically against Ebay policy. That said, given the trend over at Ebay, they are apparently putting little effort into defending their reputation and consumer confidence.
BBW I guess.
Really the reserve is NO indication of what its worth just what the seller THINKS (dreams in some instances…) its worth. The guy who sold the rg 500 in ontario mentioned just that, people bidding on things then backing out at the last minute.
There is one for sale in Western Australia for AUD $140,000……. three years ago one sold in Melbourne for $120,000. They are the modern day Green Frames
