We never miss an opportunity to blog about 400cc sportbikes, and while we have posted ZXR400s before, only a couple were available in the U.S. This example is advertised as a German model and shows 19k miles. These boast about 60hp and dry weight is around 350lbs. Amazingly, this auction is no reserve and at the time of this writing has a winning bid of $600. With several days to go, it will go higher, but it could be a potential bargain.

I know the next nostalgia fashion wave will be from the 90’s (break out the grunge flannel kids!) but I certainly hope bike builders dont do the same…the graphics on this are like an MTV test pattern…of course that was back when MTV played music….dang kids…turn down that music! get off my lawn!!!!

Eh… Don’t think so.
Don’t think so, either. It wasn’t really a great decade for sportbikes other than the 916 Ducati. Japanese superbike development had kind of leveled off for quite a while, and the trendy graphics/color schemes look hideous today. Google image a 1992 GSXR750 or 1100, a 1995 YZF750 Yamaha and see. It’s highly unlikely anyone will be nostalgic for Japanese sportbikes of this era in general. RC45 is the exception, but at high end.
No way, I love the 90’s Vanilla Ice graphics and the sport bikes. Best decade ever! There were so many cool bikes that unfortunately didn’t sell new in the USA. NSR’s TZR’s RVF’s R7’s RGV’s, 900rr’s are all still highly desirable to a lot of people. As far as the ZXR400 goes,, in some magazine articles it beat out all the 400’s including the Honda V4 400’s. Supposedly they are more roomier, faster and lighter but at 5’9 I can ride my NC30 and NC35 all day long and be fine. It sure would be great to take a ZXR400 for a spin to see how it stacks up to the other 400 greybikes.
I’ll amend that to include the 1993 CBR900 and 1996 SRAD as being noteworthy milestones.
I live in Vegas. If anyone is interested in this bike and you want me to go look at it for you, I will. I think the bike is cool. It is reminder of a decade of funky colors which were very cool at the time, and its a unique bike.
I think these rev to 16K rpm? Awesome, but I rather have a RG400 from the 80’s.
I know the seller. He’s had a few bikes listed here before. Trustworthy guy. I will say that I haven’t actually seen this bike in person, so I can’t comment on it.
Looked on CL and EBAY..cant find it listed. Im going to be in Vegas this weekend too
