I’ve seen the number 3: as in 3 Piega’s that made it to the U.S. If you are wondering what it is, think Bimota but with a rich racing history that goes back decades.
There is a Honda VTR1000 SP1 engine hiding in there along with the Honda fuel injection. Mondial claimed to have changed the power delivery though. One story on the net tells of Suzuki initially agreeing to supply TL1000R engines before deciding against it. It is all hidden with carbon bodywork.
I thought the carbon wrapped swing arm was worthy of a few pictures.
The tank is an aluminum piece of art that happens to hold gas.
Only 1983 miles.
Back in 2009 we posted a Piega in the U.S. with 1700 miles and the asking price was $32,500. With the low miles I guess this could possibly be the same machine.
They look sharp blacked out:

nice to see one of these bikes that has actually had some miles put on it….but one of the pics on the auction seems to show some paint melted onto frame (or perhaps its touch up paint that dripped down)….also I think these bikes had the rc45 engine, not the vtr1000 v twin….
I think this is one of those bikes where before you buy you burn up some frequent flyer points and go look at it in person….
also, the last time one of these popped up on ebay a year or so ago it had a buy-it-now price of 23000 USD and the auction was ended/was taken down before the auction ended. I emailed the seller and he said it was going into a collection. This doesnt appear to be the same bike it does give you an idea of prices
No, it was definitely the RC51/SP1 engine.
hmmm…looks like you are right….I should have read the bonhams info a bit more closely
sorry bout that chief
Never doubt my writing Martin! In all honesty I love when readers point out things or incorrect facts. I like to learn along with everyone else.
well then I guess you will learn lots due to me 😉
The Mondial is a very interesting and impressive bike. I have one of these in my collection. fit and finish is amazing. I’ve done a ton of research on these new Mondials and I’m in touch with the guy who has a direct line to everything left when the factory closed as for parts and remaining bikes. The story I’ve been told is that somewhere around 116 total bikes where built, 10 where built as the carbon edition, which is the black one you see in the video. There were 3 factory endurance race bikes were built. In my opinion if you all looking for something that is obscure with a future collectible value, and with the these low production numbers, then this is a must have for your collection. If you haven’t read the story of how Mondial ended up with the sp1 motors in them, then do some research it’s an interesting story of how a favor was owed to mondial from honda. if you go to the honda factory museum the first bike you see in the entry is not a honda but a mondial.
I do know where a couple new old stock bikes are if anyone is interested. including a crated carbon bike
Good stuff K3, thanks for posting.
k3, what do you think the price would be for a crated carbon bike? Im just curious…
I don’t know if I’m that excited by bikes like this. Producing an ‘exclusive’ and ‘instant collectible’ sport bike by assembling a bunch of high spec components around (someone else’s) commonplace engine and then slapping a resurrected marque badge on it has almost become a comically commonplace practice in recent motorcycle history.
I wonder if the whole amounts to more than the sum of the parts, or more accurately, the sum of $$. Would an RC51 with a similar cash infusion slaughter it?
This is all not aimed at the Mondial itself, but more at the trend. Expensive and rare, while a sure route to exclusive, is not always indicative of good. I guess, that is, assuming you like to ride them.
martin/dallaslavower, the price of the crated carbon mondial is 30k US I also know where a 200km carbon bike is for 21k US. and all three factory race bikes are in play right now as well. They are different beast altogether.
riot, all I can tell you is would you rather invest your money or spend your money. Purchasing a limited build anything has potential for an investment return in the future. non limited builds have no such potential as current production numbers of everything are too high. If your not sure of my logic. price a 1968 mustang and compare the pricing to a 1968 shelby mustang and you’ll understand, or price what a 2005 corvette, viper, diablo or F430 prices have done vs a 2005 Ford GT in that same 9 year span.
I agree with “riot” in regards to these bikes.Classic-motorbikes.com has/had one on their site for donkeys years that they couldn’t move, and this is a site that has a high turnover of motorbikes. In general,I think anyone that has an assumption that buying motorcycles on speculation of getting rich one day ,has rocks in their head.At BEST,most will only keep pace with inflation. There are a precious few motorbikes that have given a good return, but the money has been made on these already and will flatten out from here, also keeping pace with inflation. Most of the motorcycles middle-aged men are drooling over now are only a generation or two away from being unwanted. You may be able to eek out a living charging people to view them in a museum or suchlike. But,good luck with whatever avenue you choose for you investments.
Ape. the mondial on classic motorbikes.com was an old post. the reason I know this is I bought that bike several months back. they had 3 new mondials and used the same photo for the bikes. however, that being said, made in italy motorcycles who posted that has another new mondial for sale and they are using the same file photo again.
Gorgeous logo !
k3-
are the carbon and the race bikes actually in the US? or are you just quoting the price in USD but they are somewhere like the UK? if its in the us please send me info at dallaslavowner@gmail.com
Last time I saw any of the carbon or the race bikes was at http://madeinitalymotorcycles.com
K3. Is the carbon Mondial with 200 km still for sale? If so, where is it located. I am in Seattle, Washington area.
Anyone notice the brake and clutch res look jacked? Typically those Brembo types are hoisted above the bars
To K3,
I am definitely intetested in furrher duscussion regarding purchase – can you please contact me – thanks much – rick
So,K3…….where are these bikes?
Also, this previous post may be important if you are looking at spending your money on one of these motorcycles……
Exclusive Workshops February 16, 2010 2:25:50 pm Oh…. there were more than fifty, actually 120 claimed built, but suspected less. Be careful before you buy one, to make sure it isn’t one of the embezzled/stolen 11 on Mondials website…. they are looking for them. The frame no.s are published plus engine no.s so easy to check.
ape, I bought mine from a very reputable dealer in the UK. 116 total is what my source has said with a few being stolen are there way to the US… go figure… the 2 of the 3 factory race bikes that are available are from the team owner in Italy who has all kinds of mondial stuff!! including the only evo proto type ever built, and he wont sell it, i already tried, and he has the last carbon mondial still crated. the other race bike is in Germany along with a 200k carbon bike. All these bikes check out. Made in italy motorcycles in the UK sold five mondials last year and has one more available now and I think there is one more available on classic motor cycles uk website from a private individual. But your right anyone buying one of these needs to check it out first. I think including mine, there are only about 4 in the states.
