Top tier motorcycles are normally reserved for those with deep pockets. The performance hardware comes at a cost and many are left not being able to afford the ticket to entry. That might detour people, or even worse make people think they will never have access to these 200+ horsepower superbikes for many years. But there are bargains out there if you know where to look. For a while now the Aprilia RSV has been the golden ticket when it comes to weapons grade components combined with a palatable buy in price. Well now the next generation, the RSV4 is starting to take some of the limelight.
As the name imply, it is powered by a V4 engine. This change was made to combine the peak power of an inline four with the low down torque of a V-Twin, and it was done years before Ducati adopted the same design concept. Over two hundred horsepower to move under four hundred pounds is a magical specification. The unique and well loved sound is an added bonus. OZ wheels, Brembo calipers and Ohlins suspension round out the spec sheet. Almost all road test praise the RSV4 for being a savage track option, and yet a vehicle that works in the real world when ridden by people will real world skills. Some have claimed that on the new market the RSV4 is slightly long in the tooth as most years models are evolutions of the pervious year instead of a complete blank slate update. On the used market this should actually be viewed as a strength. It means that more bikes have been produced, more issues have been sorted and there are more resources to rely on should an issue pop up.
