Donn spotted one of these for sale in 2021 and posted it here, “With its third engine change since the FireBlade was introduced, the 929 was even more overquare, fuel injected, and boasting 152 hp at almost 11,000 rpm. The all-titanium exhaust included Honda’s volume tailoring HTEV system, stretching the torque band. New for 2001 were USD forks, and a longer swingarm, smoothing out the handling under power. A new 17-inch front wheel fit into the revised fairing, which reviewed as a bit less exciting than its rivals. Though growing from the original 900, every opportunity was taken to keep weight under control, and inch it toward the middle of the machine.”
Love2Lean commented on that post, “With the other ridiculous prices out there for even non collectible bikes, I have to say that this one could be worth it. [It was priced at $14k and sold for Best Offer, which was not recorded.]
First the 929RR really is an awesome bike and have aged well. They are well made and I actually prefer riding the 929 over my same era R1s. They haven’t skyrocketed in value and demand like the RC51 these days but way easier to ride on the street. Certainly not as much “character” as the 51, but its far more enjoyable on a daily basis.
I searched MONTHS to find a clean, all original, lowish miles CBR 929RR. Since Honda sold a reasonable amount of these, I thought they would be easy to find, but most have been stunted and abused if they are even out there at all. Finally found an all original (including the rear fender, windshield, turn signals and even the warning label on the tank) with 12k miles on it for $5k. Got him down a bit since there was a small dent in the tank that i plan to fix. But you really cannot find clean standard 929s out there these days, let alone the even more rare Erion Edition. And with 500 miles and even the original scotchbrite cleaning pad this bike really is a unicorn. If I had the money I would certainly add it to my collection and keep my ’01 red/ black as my rider.”
Here we have what looks to be a clean bike, low miles but clearly someone needs to visit the seller as there is only one photo and so many questions. Is this a Craigslist Quickie?!?! If you manage to check this out, please fill us in!
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
I had one. Perfectly practical sportbike by all rights with interesting livery and anodized black chassis. What strikes me is the change from black to white wheels. Makes the livery pop in a way mine didn’t. I like this rendition.
The white wheels do look good. But they are alot of work to keep presentable. Ducati Paso memories.
Agree about the maintenance on white wheels. I remain in my preference for 90s ducatis with white wheels vs black. Paso would be night and day different with any other color. Just brightens up the visible detail in the brake system showing it off. Only even looking at this one again from fond memories of mine, with the regret that I never made mine look like this. Its such a simple change…
