I had never heard of these before, but I saw this first one on Seattle Craigslist last week. It’s an 82 BMW R65LS with 45k miles that looks like it could use a very thorough detailing. He’s asking $3k:
quote from seller’s Craigslist post:
This is a great rare cafe BMW 1982 R65 LS model . 45k miles and runs great. Light weight with a low center of gravity make this bike very fun to ride. this bike is complete and unmodified.
So I wondered just how hard to find these bikes are. A quick search turned up this beauty in Salt Lake City on Craigslist. It has only 18k miles, the factory luggage, and looks fantastic in the pictures. He’s asking $4k!
quote from his Craigslist post:
THIS A SUPER CLEAN AND RARE BIKE . ALWAYS STORED AND GARAGED . OLDER GENTLEMAN SERVICED AND DRIVEN. SERVICED AT BMW DEALER IN S.L.C. ONLY 18,591 ORIGINAL MILES.

i may be wrong about this, but the first one–if it is an ’82 R65LS–seems to be missing half of the exhaust system. i have an ’82 R65 sitting at home, and i know that it has a dual exhaust system. The first one looks more like the ’84 R65.
[…] buyer – but it is really hard to defend such a non-standard color on a relatively rare bike. Here is a previous RSBFS post regarding another R65LS to help with your research and still more info on the R65LS FAQ […]
