Straight from BaT
This 1988 Bimota YB5 is one of a reported 208 produced for the 1987 and 1988 model years, and it is said to have spent time in the UK and Canada before being purchased by the seller and imported to the United States in 2015. Power is from a Yamaha-sourced 1,188cc DOHC inline-four paired with a five-speed transmission, and the bodywork has been refinished in white, red, and green with a red-painted trellis frame. Equipment includes lights, turn signals, a Marzocchi telescopic fork, 18″ alloy wheels, front two-piston Brembo brake calipers, and a two-up seat with a removable cowl as well as clip-on handlebars, rear-set foot controls, and a four-into-two exhaust system. This YB5 is now offered with a Yamaha service manual, a parts catalog, removed brake calipers, two keys, a motorcycle cover, and a clean Indiana title in the seller’s name that lists the bike as a 1989 model.

RSBFS
Back in September of 2015 Tad found a Bimota to share here on RSBFS. “Although they built their reputation around their race-spec bikes, Bimota also built plenty of street-biased bikes. There’s obviously no real racing class for a bike like the Bimota YB5 powered as it was by Yamaha’s 1188cc FJ1200 engine and 5 speed transmission.
But while it may not have been eligible for any race series, the YB5 had a couple aces up its sleeve. One was that massively torquey engine. The other was something you don’t often see on a Bimota: a set of pillion pegs matched to a passenger seat!
So while this probably wouldn’t be an ideal bike for long-distance touring, it’s nice to know you can head out to a local bike night to show off not just your taste in bikes, but your taste in significant others as well.”
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
