Today our friends at VJMoto have this fantastic looking Honda VF1000R for sale. It’s seen a light refurbishing as noted by the seller and you can tell from the photos it’s been well looked after. While mostly stock there are some thoughtful improvements that are probably much appreciated when riding.

1985 Honda VF1000R for sale on eBay
from the seller:
Up for auction is this beautiful 85 Honda VF1000R ( production # 689) with 5203 original miles. I have personally owned the bike for 3 years, it had sat for quite some time prior to my purchase in 2010. It has had a mild restoration ( No frame off, it is original paint on frame so there are some scratchs here and there.) the original bodywork was re-done in 2011 by Meticulous Motorcycle Painting in Spokane Washington, IMO opinion one of the best spot on stock re-sprays I have ever seen, bike is gorgeous. The following is a list of what was done to the bike, Carbs were rebuilt and synced, Clutch m/c rebuilt, Both brake m/c rebuilt, upgraded the head with tapered bearings, New braided stainless galfers with red banjos, Calipers rebuilt, Powder coated to match brake levers and top clamp, New Yuasa battery, New plugs, New UNI air filter, New OEM grips, powder coated wheels, New Dunlop GT 501’s ( less than 300 miles on them) refurbished period correct F1r slip-ons ( sounds great!) header ceramic coated black, Powder coated black swingarm, Powder coated black oem rear sets, new for seals, New Sonic springs with 3″ spacers, NEW Hagon rear shock ( huge improvement in the handling ) new factory match seat cover by Sargents. Supersprox rear sprocket ( aluminum carrier w/ steel carrier) l DID gold chain, all stock gearing, new fairing hardware, reconditioned black plastics. I would like to point out that one of the side black mesh panels has a broken eyelet and the radiator plastic cover cap is scratched near the top triple. Rear cowl has one broken tab but bolts up fine. Bike runs great!!!! comes with a clear Texas title in my name.
Nice looking 1000R ! I really like the contrast with the black powder coated rear footpegs , tastefully done ! I have 7 of these bikes( most parts bikes , but 2 works in progress) . I actually have a mint brand new NOS OEM set of screened sidecovers still sealed in their HONDA packages in case the future owner or anyone else would be interested . You cannot find these new anywhere . Good luck to the seller & the future buyer look like he will be getting a nice bike for sure .
RC30FREAK: You might want to list your contact info if you want to sell the bits you mentioned… 🙂
I am interested in the side covers. Email address or other?
Thanks
Wow, that bike always bring back flood of memories.
That bike was a beast, oh the stupid things I did on one as a young feller.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Cool looking bike, brings back great memories!
Looks to be a well refurbished example, but listing lacks pictures of what’s underneath the plastic. That should help sell the machine, and tells a truer story of condition- either way, buyers need to see. Looking at the eBay complete listing pictures, only one thing jumps out as needing replacement- the badly faded left switchgear! You’d think that would interchange with other 80’s Interceptors and would be easily found, but I guess not.
@RC30: opening bid is $6500. Do you feel this is market correct for this particular example?
question is irrelevant because the reserve hasn’t been met yet anyways. im sensing this one will get re-auctioned and re-auctioned again and again until the over inflated price the owner is trying to get becomes close to the bids
Hi guys ,
OK firstly (for Sixth) the opening bid is a little high (should be a lower start (with a reserve in place for him so he doesn’t lose his shirt on whatever he invested into the project )) though I think the seller will get some decent $$ because his motorcycle is well represented . For Eric , Dan and anyone else who wishes to contact me , my email address is : rc30ron@hotmail.com I welcome any serious enquiries . Scammers & time wasters will be totally ignored . All of you upstanding folks can certainly appreciate this . I have a fair pile of stuff available for the 1000Rs . I also have a rare 1984 German model (complete bike) in quite decent original condition , that I am presently breaking for parts right now . Lots of clean parts from bodywork to engine .
I have a 1984 VF1000R ( RE ) Model. Purchased mine new in June 1984. ( In Australia ) Had 2 sets of cams replaced under warranty before the bike did 12,000 KM ( appox. 7,500 miles ). Eventually, I lost interest in the bike and parked it under my mothers house. Moved to Japan for work for 5 years, and returned to Australia in 1997. Around 2003, I moved the bike to Melbourne with the plan to get it going again. Purchased a new 1985 tank on eBay from USA. Purchased some near new 1985 mufflers from USA. Purchased a new exhaust collector box ( turned out to be from a VF1000F ( different angles on the rear pipes.)….. New tyres, rebuilt the brakes….the list goes on. Unfortunately, I suffered a stroke a few years ago ( from a plane flight)…. Not certain what I will do wit the bike. Maybe I save it for a ” burial bike” .. The VF1000R wasn’t a great bike, but, I loved the grunt of that motor, and the styling certainly turned heads.
Bought an ’85 1000R in the mid-90s as a long distance daily rider between Philly and Princeton. Cleaned it up a bit, new tires, new fluids, and I was ready to go! This after riding/ racing a RZ350 for 4-5 years.
So – first time I chopped the throttle and got a big engine braking force, I about smashed my nuts on the tank! That hurt… and was a powerful lesson about the differences between small 2smokes and big 4strokes.
Nice bike – getting collectible, but I’d rather have the dual headlight model. Or a ’90 FZR1000… or a ’90 GSXR1100… or the ’92 ZX7-RR I’m going to check out on Saturday… 😉
You can read about this bike’s build here:

Sort of surprised he is selling it after all the work he put into it. $6500 might be a little high but not outregeous for one in this condition. The paint is probably better than new.
When I’m done with mine I hope it looks this good.
“Irrelevant”? How can asking a guy owns 7 of these bikes (RC30freak) if the seller’s opening price is market correct possibly be irrelevant? I do agree that it is a high open though, and suspect that you’re right about it not being sold this time. Even with all of the changes in finish and slight mods, it’s still a cool example.
You have old VFR parts… Do you have any RC30 parts RC30FREAK?
I took some time & read the thread on the 1000R build . It is quite interesting and inspiring . As I took alot of photos on two of my projects as well as the fact I take photos of every one of my teardowns . I think I just might do a thread . I admire the dedication of someone who A. does a restoration and especially B. someone who takes the time to actually document it , write it and even answer questions about it . Very interesting .
BTW thanks again Sixth & I do wholeheartedly agree with you . Puritans might argue with us for 100% originality , but I think he did it right . Paintwork is fabulous . Anything else could be put back to original look at any time later on if somone really wished to . Good luck to the seller , he deserves it . BTW his shop space is immaculate !! Like !
I’ve always liked these and nothing says Honda Racing in the 80’s like the paint job and tribute style of one of these baby’s. They just take me back to some good old important racing days. Plus I have a thing for gear driven cams and this one looks tastefully done.
I would be interested in the VF1000R side covers if you still have ’em. Thanks much!

I would be interested in the VF1000r side covers if you still have them. Thanks. Bob Rollin. 248-425-0238
Armorall or similar will fix up the fading switch gear. Put the stuff on a cloth and apply… My 1984 VF1000R’s switchgear is in great condition.
