I have a 1979 Honda CBX 1000 for sale. Very low miles bike that has sat in a collection for years. Has 1977 original miles on it. The bike starts right up and runs and rides. Obviously, has sat for some years so to be a daily rider probably needs some attention. Please let me know any questions you have and feel free to call with any questions. In case you were not able to catch the results of the recent 2024 Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction, a CBX1000 made it to Mecum’s top 20 list.
According to Mecum, “This year over 2000 motorcycles spanning almost 120 years of two-wheels rolled across the block at the South Point Hotel and Casino. It was a sure bet you’d find something you liked. Here are our picks.
[Number 6 on the list:]
1979 CBX1000 Sold for $28,050
A transverse-mounted straight-six! Outrageous!
The CBX was really just Honda engineers showing off. It wasn’t the first-ever transverse inline-six, but it was still something amazing, coming as it did just a decade after the also-revolutionary CB750 transverse inline-four.
The 24-valve DOHC engine was 1047cc, making a then-impressive 105 hp. This one has only 3,300 miles on the odometer, and it’s a three-owner bike with the last ownership going back to 1998.”
This bike we are showing on ebay is currently under $10k, but the reserve has not yet been met. I’ll be popping popcorn this Friday night watching the last few minutes.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
I still haven’t understood what is driving cbx prices these past two years but one things certain, people are paying serious money for them. This looks to be a really clean albeit slightly personalized example, so who knows what it’ll pull. One thing’s certain, how much coin are you gonna drop on a bike with no title.
This machine seems to show a lot of wear for 1977 miles……Just saying’.
I’m curious as to how the alternator clutches are holding up on these bikes as they are approaching the 50 year mark. I know they could cause havoc with the oiling system if one let go.

Agree, miles seem off compared to condition of the bike. Looks like it was left outside for some time. Pipes are rusted and aftermarket mufflers aren’ t doing the job as indicated by the discoloring.
Someone is paying a large premium for a machine that is going to require at least (I’m being generous here) another $5k of work.
Just at a brief glance of the photos the following spring to mind
– Seat ( I happened to sell a mint seat with a tail section for $1K five or six years ago)
– Tail section is cracked, mind you they all cracked in exactly the same place (This is evidenced by the “spidering” marks)
– Tank appears to have a dent on the lower left side (perhaps just camera angle)
– Original brake lines will need to be replaced
– Original master cylinders rebuilt
– Brakes will require a rebuild
– Carbs will have to come off to be cleaned/rebuilt and then synced and balance upon installation
– It will need at bare minimum need a paint correction (provided that is important to the new owner)
Having stated the above I should point out that my opinion is worth exactly what you have pain for it but this machine is closer to a $6k machine than a $10k unit.
A free market economy is a beautiful thing 🙂
Cheers,

No argument with the above, thus the whole “how do you spend that kinda coin on something you can’t even touch” thing. The exhaust is telling a story that should be obvious, but alas, only to certain individuals.
Omg, what a cute little bike!
Much Love,
Jazzfish’s Mom
Well, it sold for $11,350 . . .
What story is the exhaust telling? Running hot/to lean?
Apparently mom approve’s so I’d best mind my p’s & q’s.
Hey Mom

That pipe came off another bike or that’s the hardest 1900 miles I’ve ever seen, that things discolored all the way back to the canister. Like I’ve said before, how do you spend that kinda money on a bike with no title. Which would give you a better picture of truely knowing its mileage. Beware of titles that are only months old as well, title washing, but to be honest, that price isn’t that bad for a CBX (if it had a title). But boy, more questions to be asked than on an entire season of Jeopardy. I mean really… welcome to Ebay…
