Only one word can be used to describe the recent rumors about a remake of Top Gun: BLASPHEMY! For those of you too young to remember, Top Gun was a 1980’s cold war movie with a young Tom Cruise, Anthony Edwards from Revenge of the Nerds and ER fame, a still smokin hot Kelly McGinnis, some wicked F14 fighter planes, oh and a screaming Kawasaki 900 ninja.
1985 Kawasaki GPZ 900 for sale on eBay
This bike looks to be a faithful recreation of the bike from the movie. According to the seller, the bike is NOT the bike that the embedded link shows. The link was provided only for the technical info reference.
As for what its worth, it will all depend if you “feel the need… the need for SPEED” 🙂

The story (from the link in the post: http://mikandersen.dk/Motorcykel%20engelsk.htm) is super cool, he has descriptions of all the stickers and photos of the restoration. I like the bike more than the movie!
An abandoned highway , an MP3 player with ear-buds , and Kenny Loggins’ ”Danger Zone” playing inside your helmet whilst doing a top speed run on it………. now we are talking !
I just read the story of the bike ! Very inspiring & great job ! If we all could realise our childhood dreams like that .
This is beyond awesome. I wonder how much it will cost to get Tom Cruise’s 24 year-old face painted on the front of a helmet?
Much tougher will be finding a lovely young blonde with a 356 convertible to chase.
Actually I sent an email to the seller and he says the bike in in the auction is NOT (I repeat NOT) the same bike as the one referenced in the embedded link. He seems to have included the link just so people can get to the technical reference section.
That being said, the bike in the embedded link is still cool..
Cheers

I could be wrong (it happens a lot), but the way I heard it, due to insurance problems with a huge star like Tom Cruise, he wasn’t allowed on anything as powerful as this bike.
The rumor I heard was the bike he rode was a camouflaged 250 or something a little more. . .sedate.
Has anyone else heard this story?
is it just me or did top gun lose some of its shine after everyone figured out what a left wing liberal loon tom cruise is? i’d sooner get internal surgery done in a back alley than take medical advice from a hollywood “star”
Lol u r bringing religious and political views to a bike forum. You are a legend. You want to start a topic about homosexuality or abortion?
WRONG ! >>> The bike(s) used in the movie were both 1984 Ninja 900’s. They were re-painted by the studio with the red and gray colors transposed, and the gray became black, as seen in the Mik pictures.
I / my shop sold the bikes to Paramount in summer of 85 when they were filming in San Diego. ___ I took some pictures during filming which Mik used to
do the decals. ___ For anybody that would doubt, I made a Xerox copy of one of the checks from Paramount. ___ They had seen our ad in The Cycle Trader at the time.
actually i was refering to his stance on mental health drugs but sure… whatever you say…
I had a ’84 model. Great bike, but the damn thing had more hoses,o-rings,clamps and screws than said F-14.
