A dedicated cult favorite amongst sportbike collectors is the Honda VF1000R. This is a really big bike but truly a game changer in it’s day in terms of access and performance. 27 years later it’s a very attractive yet and a period awesome piece. This particular example is a ridden but appreciated example. It has less than 10k miles and the current price is just shy of $4k with the reserve met. Thanks for all the emails to feature this one!

1986 Honda VF1000R For Sale on eBay
quote from the seller:
Offered here is a RARE LAST PRODUCTION YEAR 1986 HONDA VF1000R INTERCEPTOR, in VERY GOOD, VERY ORIGINAL RUNNING condition! Only imported into the US for two years (1985-86), the VF1000R was Honda’s production version of the legendary V4 race bikes made famous by the likes of Freddie Spencer, Mike Baldwin, Fred Merkel and Joey Dunlop, and the first Honda street bike to use the gear-driven cams developed for the factory racers. The 1986 VFR had dual headlights, gold upper triple clamp and a few other minor differences from the 1985 model. This is a two-owner bike with ONLY 8,350 original miles and is in AMAZING condition for a 27 year old motorcycle, both cosmetically and mechanically! It came to me about 6 years ago, having been stored for a long time by the original owner after he had a low-side mishap on some gravel in a tight corner on Highway 1 out here in Northern California, and it had some road rash on the right side of the tank and on the upper & lower fairings. I had the steel tank and fiberglass fairings professionally repaired and repainted, and as you can see in the photos below, it is impossible to tell the difference from the factory original paint on the left side and the re-painted areas on the right side! Except for the fact that I have not yet replaced the winged Honda logo on the right side of the tank – I actually like the cleaner look from the right without the decal, and YES I do have another 100% original VF1000R tank (original factory paint with both winged Honda decals in place) that will go to the winning bidder as a bonus! Overall I would rate the cosmetic condition of this bike on the order of 8 or 9 out of 10 – the paintwork is GORGEOUS as you can see, there are NO dents or dings in the tank, NO cracks, roadrash or significant structural damage in the Italian-made fiberglass fairings, NO holes or tears in the seat cover, engine paint still has a very high gloss finish – in short it is just about as good as you could ever expect a 27 year-old motorcycle to be! There are a couple of small scratches here & there, the speedometer bezel is dinged and the lens is cracked (read on for more bonus items here!), the top “arms” of the upper fairing mounting bracket are slightly tweaked, there are some scrapes on the right rear turn signal housing, the right bar end is missing, and the painted finish on the left mirror is showing some age, but that is pretty much it as far as cosmetic flaws worth noting…
As good as this bike looks – and let’s be fair, this has to be one of the best looking motorcycles ever made – I can safely the mechanical condition is EVEN BETTER! The super low mileage is original, it has never been raced or abused, I replaced the water pump and changed all fluids, AND installed the Dave Dodge Top End Oiling mod (at a cost of close to $300), which is the single most important thing you can do for any big bore Honda V4 engine – it replaces the deficient factory low-pressure oil feed to the cams (really, the ONLY weak point in these engines) with a high-pressure high-flow oil supply, so you can rest assured this engine will do 100K+ miles without wearing out the cams… The engine fires up instantly, after a little time on the choke to warm up it idles smoothly, carburetion is SPOT-ON PERFECT, engine performs flawlessly up & down the rev range and wow this engine loves to REV and does it make some beautiful music out of those polished aluminum Yoshimura cans! Clutch, transmission, brakes, suspension and all electrics work great, this bike is WAAAAYYYYYY FUN, no doubt about it, and if I had some more room in my garage and more time to ride it I would NEVER consider letting it go… Tires are very good with plenty of tread, chain is good, brand new gel battery, bottom line is this bike needs nothing in order to be ridden, and ridden HARD if you are so inclined! In addition to the spare gas tank previously mentioned, I have some more bonus items for the winning bidder, including a good working VF1000R speedometer (to use as bezel & lens donor), factory Honda Workshop Manual, K&N filter and a box of fasteners and miscellaneous hardware… NICE!!!
Those are my old Yosh pipes ! I miss them now , after hearing what they sound like ! Good luck with the sale Howard !
OK, we understand this bike has been crashed moderately hard in the past (they’re ALL just minor, low speed low sides or happen in the driveway), but was repaired half-assed. But if seller already has a replacement speedometer, why didn’t he install it before taking all the pictures and offering it for sale? It looks terrible and telling, and begs the question of how bad the crash really was, and what else was (is?) still damaged underneath the bodywork.
