Like most sportbike manufacturers, Aprilia’s line includes uprated editions and commemoratives of each machine, to the point where a base model is rarely seen or tested. The second-generation 998cc Aprilia offered here is a stocker with an Akropovich exhaust and aftermarket levers. But the low production ensures rarity, and with low miles and no damage history, it’s special in its own right.
2007 Aprilia RSV 1000R for sale on eBay
Aprilia introduced their big Mille R in 1998, and after many design changes for 2004 re-named it the 1000R. A 60-degree V-twin based on a Rotax dry-sump crankcase provides a torquey 143 hp. The clutch is a hydraulic wet variety, and includes Aprilia’s slipper Pneumatic Power Clutch. Aluminum pressings and castings are welded into a lightweight and rigid frame, and the same techniques are used for the banana swingarm. Öhlins is represented up front with their 43mm fork and steering damper, and Sachs handles the adjustable monoshock. Brakes are a focus item with radially-mounted Brembo 4-piston calipers on 320mm front rotors, and single 220mm rear disk. The Mille’s Mickey is gone from the headlight bucket, replaced by dual headlights and Aprilia’s Air Runner, which delivers cold air to the engine and integrates support for the fairing. Turn signals are nicely streamlined, fronts in the mirrors and rears smoothed into the tail in a way we don’t see often.
Offered by a veteran rider, this 1000R has just under 5,000 miles and looks great in the red lion graphic. Likely still riding the factory rubber, tires will want replacement due to age, but that should be all. The owner states in the eBay auction:
I am selling my 2007 Aprilia RSV 1000 the bike is like new with 4900 miles. I am 65 and my wrists can not do it any more last year put 313 miles on it. The Bike has never been down and has Akrapovic exhaust on it. Low reserve no scratches or chips.
Aprilia is the last surviving superbike manufacturer in the Piaggio dynasty and has the resources to keep the developments coming. Significant enhancements to the chassis and engine were made for this generation, with quality components throughout. The 1000R has been a very successful endurance racer and tested as a great handling liter, tuned for a wider torque band and a little less top end power. Carefully ridden by its single owner, this 1000R would be a great choice and individual statement.

Could someone please tell me how or why this is rare?
