On our Facebook page last night, I asked what should be posted this morning. We got a lot of interesting suggestions but the winner was the link to this 1988 Honda RC30 in Australia. The listing is very thin with just one picture and no description summary. The data field for odometer reading is 0. It’s very clean from the one picture but I would think if it was brand new it would have dozens of photos to inspect and a detailed description to document it’s authenticity. I’d also expect a lot higher price tag than $35k AUD (~$31k USD). Finally I see it has the Bol d’Or decals which I believe makes it French market RC30. These are less restricted right?
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions,
dc
This bike seems to a bit “all over the place”.It looks to be a Japanese specification bike, judging by the mirrors and front indicators, which makes it a JDM restricted power version.Although, the JDM bikes do not have the Bol d’Or sticker on the fairing, they have a Force V4 decal. There is no suggestion by the seller that it has been de-restricted,in fact,no description at all. It’s not a zero mileage bike,I can assure you of that at least.A few 1987 Japanese spec bikes have landed in Australia recently due to restrictions on importing/registering post-1987 grey imported vehicles, but these JDM’s are 77 h.p versions of the real deal, that buyers may not be aware of.
I agree with Bread Crumbs, no way that’s a zero miler. Even from the one low quality photo you can see the discoloured exhaust and the outline of a number plate on the back. The mirrors, indicators and apparent lack of a VIN plate (hard to see for sure) all mark it as a JDM bike. So… what does it look like from the front? Either it has small headlights meaning someone has stuck a French market Bol D’or decal on it, or it’s had the fairing changed for a big headlight, French market one. Or maybe it’s a real mess of parts from different bikes? It would be nice to see more pics.
There was a French market RC30 front fairing for sale on Yahoo auctions about six months ago, maybe someone used it to put this together?
This bike has been advertised on gum tree for at least 6 weeks now. No description and only
One photo make it difficult to asses the bike and it’s origins.
I’m a current RC30 owner. This example is so poorly presented and marketed, that I can only guess at what this truly is. There’s an untold story here behind this RC30, and without the truth disclosed you cannot accurately value it whatsoever. Seller should stick to selling cars with his minimal specs template.
I would love an RC30, but it’s a farce that this example was allowed to “win” when there were about four other bikes submitted that merited the attention more.
I agree with everyone . The JDM models are not a peach to de-restrict either . Alot of JDM RC30s have been popping up lately There seem to be a fair bit of them circulating in the UK too these days for some reason .
agree with everyone, down pipes are discolored indicating much use, the indicators are the exact ones used for ther 1989 NC30 and was the only time they used the small blue, also mirror as well appear to be from VFR400 or the NSR MC28 which are the same, if I were selling a top notch bike I can assure you I would have many photos to back up my story, also rear tire appears to have been changed, not the original, if original “0” miles bike no reason to change the rear, wrong size at that, a 70 series was used instead of 60 series, also is it me or is the Force V4 decal missing?, and the front brake rotors appear to be the wrong color gold that would not show up that rich in the photo
Run from this one 🙂 Who puts a tank pad/protector on a zero mile mike?
