2004 Nicky Haden edition RC51 with 1,400 miles. I bought it brand new, and Ive been the only owner. It’s been garaged. Very clean. MANY extras including exhaust, header, rear sets, power commander, steering damper, yoyodyne clutch and turn signals. Still has original tires which may need to be changed. Other than that, it is a perfect bike with few minor scratches. A must see.

I searched up “2004 Honda RC51” on our site and there were plenty of posts to review. One post from 2013 had 8 comments with people talking about the price. The bike had less than 2,000 miles and the BIN price was just shy of $9k. A few people felt the bike was not worth more than $7,500.
One of the commenters pointed out that if anything ever happened to Hayden the price of these would skyrocket. So I checked a post from 2024 and found that one sold for $19,250 on Bring A Trailer.
There are a few typical modifications on this bike that you may or may not want, so it is worth a call to see if the seller still has original parts.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!

look, i know we love the bikes we love and will go to the lengths necessary to acquire them but i can’t abide BAT for buying anything. it is a mosh-pit of ass-clownery both with the people who run the site and the inflated prices due to the deep-pocket crowd that hangs out there. to the winner go the spoils i guess but i kinda wish this site didn’t send them traffic.
The RC51 has attained a level of cult classic but part of that accomplishment was due to the value it offered especially the early SP1 variants. However, as the prices are climbing I begin to question the matter of value. Personally owned 2 RC51 SP1 bikes at the same time as the result of finding “that one” from remote sellers. Did well on one but very well on the other. Anyhow, sometime after selling the lesser of the 2 RC51s I bought an RSV Mille Colin Edwards Replica. The Aprilia turned out to be a much more capable bike, especially in terms of handling and weight distribution that my remaining RC51 quickly left my stable. I knew at the time that the Ape would be my preference overRC51 any day of the week.
The RC51 here is probably worth buying to the right person. Yes, it may be modded but should be an easy revert with stock OEM parts. However, for the amount of scratch being asked for this SP2, Aprilia and MV offer much better options in terms of performance and style and with a bit of searching you may even move up to a Bimota SB6R, DB2 or a DB4. The first and second generations RSV Factory are virtually bulletproof with the Rotax twin and the inline 4 in the MV F4 has been arounf for generations.
@ Mike – Duly noted. It’s a tough call because our readers do bid, buy and sell on BaT – but I get your point.
@ Tirefryer – Thanks for your thoughtful and insightful comment. This brings so much value to the site. These insights help our readers navigate the market.
I agree about BaT, as I look it over daily. Pretty much a closed loop scenario of ‘investors’ and clowns. I’ve always wanted an RC51, but will wait until the market finishes correcting, something we’re seeing with the drop in RC30 values.
Friend bought one lately in Ireland for 5000 Euros, American spec, same as model here, is doing a track day coming Saturday with it.
lets not put everything in glass cases.
personally have soft spot for these, Joey Dunlop won his last big TT race on an SP1, the joke was that these were the best bike Ducati never built.
Hard to fault the engineering, plus a short model run, won’t be any more.
And they make a righteous rumble
Rc51 with the white front number plate instead of black opens up the look on the front of the bike tremendously. The front loses the visual detail when it is blacked out with the air intake there. Such a small change to such a great overall aesthetic effect. Not that the bike needs much of anything to make it good. I don’t see much difference in any of the years for anything I can do as a rider. But that one difference alone makes this the one livery I would look for. I would not mind owning on of these if i ever get to retire and spend some time riding somewhere fun.
The gas cap is a head scratcher for me. Unless the bike is a track bike and has a keyless ignition, why would you bother making this change? It costs money to do so. If you have a key in the ignition, you have what you need to open the gas cap already. Is 1 lb winning you the cafe race? Stock seems better to me. To each their own.
It’s hard for me to understand why people don’t spend an hour in the driveway with a washcloth and a toothbrush to prepare a bike for display and sale?
Why Facebook? Duh why not BAT?
I’m with Mike on the whole BAT thing, mostly good for sellers but bad for buyers.
BAT is just Boomers selling overpriced cars and bikes to each other. Boomer a Trailer…
