We are Maverick fans, to the point where my mom named her cat Maverick. So when Red saw this bike up for auction at BaT we had to post it. Of course, it is not the exact bike. But it is the right era, make and model, so it gets the cool stamp of approval.
I’d also like to take a moment to recognize that the vintage Kawasaki GPZ900R that was used in the original Top Gun movie made a cameo in Top Gun: Maverick, as reported on Web Bike World.
Think about that. Tom Cruise and all the decision makers had enough respect for that vintage machine, to give it a cameo. People love these rare and vintage bikes. They are a symbol of a time in our lives, and a time in history when these super bikes were taking the world by storm.
So who wants to dress up like Maverick next Halloween and drive this around the block?
I know it is not exactly the same, but it is a head turner and you will look pretty darn cool.
If you are not already in Tom Cruise shape, you have 364 days to get there! #goals

From BaT
This 1984 Kawasaki GPZ900R Ninja is powered by a liquid-cooled 908cc DOHC inline-four paired with a six-speed transmission, and it is finished in red with gray, black, and gold accents. Equipment includes a stepped two-up seat, alloy wheels, triple disc brakes, an air-adjustable fork with Kawasaki’s anti-dive Automatic Variable Damping System (AVDS), and a four-into-two exhaust system with F1 mufflers as well as a full fairing with an integrated windscreen. The bike spent time in California before it was acquired by the selling dealer in 2021, and work performed in preparation for the sale reportedly involved changing the petcock and a coolant hose along with overhauling the four Keihin carburetors. This ZX900-A1 is now offered at no reserve by the selling dealer in Nevada with a clean California title.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!

That’s a low mileage example, too bad the original pipes aren’t there. I’ve been campaigning an A2 for many years, and get the usual questions from old guys at gas stations all the time. I finally broke down and produced a replica Maverick lid to complete the ensemble.

@Vincent My Dad was/is such a huge Top Gun fan. He would be one of those old guys asking about your bike. He saw the film so many times, the people at the movie theater started just letting him in for free, lol.
