We’ve all been there, the motorcycle is the first thing she thinks needs to be sold when there is a project that needs funding. Unfortunately, we sometimes have to deal in reality and bite the bullet like this seller.
I hope the kitchen looks nice because this is a sharp looking RZ.
The depressing story:
I hope the kitchen looks nice because this is a sharp looking RZ.
you are bidding on a 1985 yamaha rz500. it is somewhat rare in the U.S. it is a 500cc v4 two stroke. if you are looking at this ad, you already know this. i am selling my pride and joy because the wife wants a new kitchen and doesn’t want to take out a loan. if you are married you understand. i bought this bike in 1986 from a midwestern dealer who had brought it into the country and had it on display it the dealership window. it had 300 km on it when i bought it and it now has aprox 8800 km. it spends the winter(oct-may) in my den. i have done a few upgrades over the years. i grafted on a complete R1 brake system with adapter by nigil kimber. i installed jim lomas titanium/carbon exhaust with an ivans jet kit, a race tail with custom subframe and of course a custom paint job(i always like the JPS paint scheme). it has new bt14 tires in the correct 16/18 tire sizes. all removed parts are included plus some spares i accumilated over the years( see pictures). please do not ask to buy individual parts. it has a clean florida title. the only configuration change is the bike now has an LSL superbike bar kit(i’m old). if the winning bidder wants it returned to clipons, i will do this , no problem. i really don’t want to sell this as i know i will never be able to replace it but swmbo is REALLY in charge. as this is a 28 year old motorcycle, there is no warrenty implied or otherwise. shipping is on the winning bidder. vehicle will not be released untill funds clear my bank. you will not be disappointed. happy bidding
A closer look at the custom paint. She’s got a 17 digit VIN with 52X in it. I believe that would make it an Australian model originally.
With only a few days remaining on the auction, the price is hovering around $7,500. It’s going to have go higher than that to make the Mrs. happy roaming the isles of Home Depot.

given that this guy succombs to his wifes rule, he’ll not only lose his bike to a kitchen , but he’ll lose his wife to divorce. keep the bike and tell her to go get a partime job and pay for the kitchen herself……………….with obama care coming i hear there are alot of part-time jobs!
This is a cry for help. He’s already regretting having to sell his baby, and will resent the wife for years for forcing the issue. All the modifications, time, and money invested- he’s put his soul into this bike, you can just tell by the description. Any woman that doesn’t respect or understand that isn’t worth living with. There’s always other ways to raise money- this is a relationship power and control issue. I’d recommend for best long term mental health that the seller get rid of her and and her damn kitchen, not the bike!
Wow, this one is striking a chord with the RSBFS faithful. We have a bit of a Dr. Phil vibe going here.
i have noticed that people who try to sell mid 80’s bikes never seem to post pics from the front viewpoint. Personally I like the two round headlights found on so many bikes of this era but I guess most people like the newer/angular looks?
Sounds like this guy needs to sack up and put his foot down. What’s the deal with so many classified ads full of spineless men blaming wives for their bike’s sale? Sure, they may be trying to save a marriage, but what is the point of saving a marriage that takes away from your own joy and happiness?
some see marital issues, some see a great opportunity to own a beautiful smoker, I see her (not the swmbo, haha) going from one loving hand to another..
+1, I love the 2 round headlights a la Older Honda CBRs and Yamaha YZFs.

The thing is, men allow themselves to get put into these positions. If they would have laid it out from the get go, the wouldn’t be bullied by a woman now. When I first met my wife and we were dating, she asked me to sell my Kawasaki z-1 because she and (mainly) her parents thought bikes were death machines. I basically told her to eff off, cause it wasn’t gonna happen. Then our first child came along and she tried the same plea again. (Tried the guilt trip thing “Now you wouldn’t want your daughter to be without a daddy, would you?” Told her once again that it was not up for negotiation, and to never ask me again. That was almost 25 years and three children ago, and she knows where the line in the sand is drawn. Been happily married now for twenty wonderful years (married for 25 total).
You all have it wrong!!! It’s not the women to blame for you heart aches and frustrations. It’s that you all ended up with the wrong women… When I met my wife three years ago I had 5 street bikes and 4 dirt bikes.. now, “WE”, have 48 street bikes with 4 more on the way and 10 dirt bikes. She even had the idea of building a separate garage just for the collection, which she spends more time in then I do enjoying the bikes. Now when I show her a picture of a bike I think we should put into the collection , she just says, “when’s it coming”. My advice to all to you single guys, before it’s too late and you end up like this guy selling his first love for a kitchen remodel, is to find women more suited to your life styles before you marry them!! Oh, and my wife’s favorite bike of our collection is the Benelli TRE 900 LE, she likes the fans at the rear.. and the color.. lol Good luck 1985 RZ 500 man. I hope the kitchen turns out as good looking as your bike… 🙂
Keep the bike, if the wife fears not loosing your respect over a kitchen then she has no respect to start with. Live without regrets.
does she have a younger sister? 😉
