1985 Yamaha RD500

Located in La Palma, California is a 1985 Yamaha RD500LC that only need some minor work to be complete. This two owner RD500 shows only 3916km (2433mi) and only has 400mi since a “…frame off mechanical restoration.” Supposedly the bike has mechanically been completely gone through and only need some minor cosmetic touches to complete it.

Cylinders were honed and ports chamfered. New oem rings, wrist pins and clips installed. Every seal, gasket and o-ring was replaced along with oil injector lines. Brakes were completely rebuilt including master cylinders, calipers (fitted with EBC HH pads) and rotors resurfaced. All wheel bearings were replaced with new sealed bearings

This RD500 needs some cosmetic replacement parts, most importantly the exhaust and fairings, to become a very nice, low mileage bike. The bike is titled and registered in California. Seller is also a usa2strokers.com forum member so contact him through that site or through the eBay ad here.

1985 Yamaha RZ500 $6600

For you large two stroke fans we have a 1985 Yamaha RZ500 located, titled, and registered in Encinitas, California. This completely original example shows 22,000 miles but looks to be in great condition. The seller claims that the motor has never been apart, so it may need a careful eye but should be a good runner long into the future–something you can safely ride without worrying about diminishing the value. 1989 Yamaha RZ350

For you lucky northern residents we have a Canadian market 1989 Yamaha RZ350 located in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. The seller claims that this bike has an unbelievable (it doesn’t look like it in the pictures) 29,000km (16k mi). Shown in an excellent looking blue and yellow paint scheme, this bike looks showroom new–either it is, or the seller is good with a camera. There are some evident scratches around the triple-clamp, but for being twenty years old, this bike looks almost perfect. If I were a Canadian resident I would seriously consider this fine looking example. See the eBay ad here.

1989 Yamaha FZR400

Located in San Diego, California is a very clean and original 1989 Yamaha FZR400. Showing only 18k miles this example would be an excellent candidate for preservation and enjoyment. Nice, street legal, examples of these aluminum framed 400’s have been reduced significantly due to racing. If you would like an excellent example for only $2600, see the Craigslist ad here.

1985 Yamaha RZ/RD350 With Nine Original Miles $9500

Were you unable to purchase a RZ350 new in ’84 or ’85? Here is your second chance: Located in Danville, California is a 1985 Yamaha RZ350 with nine original miles. The description seems to be pulled from Wikipedia, however, if the nine original miles are true and this bike is in showroom condition it should sell itself. The asking price is about double what an average RZ350 would go for–but again, this is a nine mile bike. Custom 1976 Yamaha RD400

Available in Glendale, California is a 1976 Yamaha RD400 built as a Kenny Roberts replica. Claimed to be fitted with (possibly rare and very valuable) Moto Carrera goodies this RD400 has been transformed into a street legal race replica. This bike would be a very fun, and fast, weekend toy.

1989 Yamaha FZR400 $2750

Quite rare, but not unobtainable, are the aluminum framed FZR 400’s. Located in San Jose, California is this 1989 FZR 400 with an asking price of $2750. This isn’t the most desirable year, but, looks quite clean for being twenty years old. FZR’s (Specifically the 400’s and 600’s) need to be carefully examined to make sure they haven’t been beat continuously for their whole lives. This example only shows 9K miles and looks well cared for–still having its original plastics. If you’re in the market, this would be worth looking into in this condition and at this price. 1988 Yamaha FZR 750 R $3750

Located in Carmel, California is a seemingly very rare and very original Yamaha FZR750R. The seller claims that only 200 were brought into the U.S. from 1987-88 (I believe they were imported until 89, the last year being the OWO1). The bike only has 5,400 original miles; however, it does have race history. Does race history make a difference on a homologation special? For this particular bike, at this price, I would think not.

The FZR-R comes with (Factory?) Yamaha race parts (13,000 rpm black box, crankshaft,springs, fork springs, etc), original plastics, an Airtech set manuals/Microfische, period articles, spare rim, stand and more.

Ask yourself, would you rather have a six year old CBR F4i, or a race-bred homologation special? I know which one I’d have to choose.
