Noale Carbon Dream: 2004 Aprilia Nera in the UK

nera1

Here is a bit of carbon fibre dreamery from Italy, an engineering flight of fancy if you will…a 2004 Aprila RSV 1000 Nera.   Listed for sale on gumtree but apparently located in Ireland near Belfast, only 200 of these beauties were built back in 2004 during a time when Aprilia dreamed of launching an ultra-exclusive “dream series” of bikes.   Carbon fibre everywhere, Ohlins suspension, Brembo braking, lightweight titanium used not just for the exhaust but all the bolts and fasteners, magnesium wheels…it all came together in what was to that point the most light-weight (under 400 lb) and powerful RSV1000 Aprilia had ever offered.

nera2

Personally I don’t think the pictures of this bike do it justice…the full carbon fibre bodywork with just a hint of glaze looks incredible in the sunlight and in person the bike looks incredibly purposeful….kind of like a stealth fighter, very function oriented but not raw.

2004 Aprilia Nera for sale in the uk

The Nera was was marketed as a bike for the “cognoscenti’, for people who knew how rare and special is was intended to be.  Aprilia even offered a dream package with its dream bike; on top of the $30,000 USD sales price buyers could plop down another $10,000 for an invitation to attend a MotoGP track session in the country of your residence, exclusive memorabilia, and a customized set of leathers.

While Aprilia was aiming high with its $40,000 dream package, it soon found out that aiming high and hitting the mark are two different things. Despite the first bike going to actor Matt LeBlanc of Friends TV show fame and overall excellent reviews, rumor has it that not a single buyer took Aprilia up on the additional “dream package” and that many of the bikes languished on the sales floor for more than a year. Perhaps its not surprising that the company soon ran into financial difficulties and in 2004 Aprilia and Moto Guzzi were acquired by Piaggio who quickly put an end to engineering flights of fancy like the Aprilia Nera/dream series and Moto Guzzi MGS-01.

The base Aprila RSV1000 has proven to be a very reliable motor and this particular product of Noale is listed as having only done 5000 miles so its barely broken in but no service information on this bike is offered.  Realistically fluids and fresh rubber would have to be factored into the price.

Speaking of price, the last few of these we have been fortunate enough to have on RSBFS seem to have gone for prices around 6000 GBP/$12,000 USD so while the asking price of 7250 GBP price is about double of a standard RSV its still right in line with the price trend on these and is actually the lowest price I have seen for one of these to date.  Perhaps that’s due to its location.

If full on carbon, exclusivity and italian-ness are what you crave, you probably cant do much better than a Aprilia Nera; the 200 unit production number already qualifies the Aprila RSV 1000 Nera as a Rare Sportbike. But I have to be honest say I don’t think the Nera will be a bike that undergoes dramatic price appreciation anytime soon. It is undeniably beautiful and rare but its not based on a true race bike, didnt herald the launch of any major technology and the performance wasn’t significantly different from the standard RSV1000 it was based on.  The Nera is instead a bit of designer dreaming that I doubt we will likely see again soon…then again so were the Delahaye and Henderson motorcycles so you never know..

124’s Second Dance: 2003 Aprilia RSV1000R Mille Haga Replica

124’s Second Dance:  2003 Aprilia RSV1000R Mille Haga Replica

It’s gained 2 miles, dropped $1,000 in price since its’ last appearance here back in 2010.  This Haga Replica is still looking for a new home.  The darn thing is still basically brand new with 364 miles on it.  Mille’s are a dime a dozen but now that I think about it, you really don’t see the Haga or Edwards replicas come up for sale that often.

If you forgot what you got:

  • Top Distinction: only 300 units worldwide limited edition with only 60 slated for US delivery ensures top collectors value, and a phenomenal presentation to further stand out from the crowd.
  • Built on the class-leading RSV 1000 Mille R platform.
  • Fairing graphics faithfully duplicated from WSB- Spec RSV 1000 Mille SP Superbike – complete with Haga racing numbers
  • Blue anodized Ergal top triple tree with “Noriyuki Haga” inscribed signature + production identification serial number + inscription “SBK REPLICA RSV 1000 R”
  • Aprilia Engine Department developed dual-sided Akrapovic TITANIUM exhaust and stainless steel collectors+ EPROM specifically designed for this exhaust system
  • Building on the already class-leading performance of the Mille R, the Haga Replica sees a 10 hp increase at 6.500 rpm, and a flatter power curve, over 9.000 rpm with the installation of the competition-grade Akrapovic Exhaust system. Torque is greatly increased with torque curves reaching optimal values 1700 rpm earlier than the standard motor.
  • 6.6 lb weight decrease with the Akrapovic Exhaust system installed (with respect to a standard RSV R) and more equal lateral balance (also thanks to the double and not single exhaust).
  • Top quality components from RSV 1000 R carry-over, including the Carbon body panel inserts and fenders, Brembo 4 pad calipers, Ohlins suspension and steering damper
  • Full rear subframe reduces cost to add optional Bi-Posto kit
  • The 2003 RSV 1000 Mille R Haga Replica: World Superbike technology and imagery, in a single value-packed performance package.

Time has really caught up with WSB and they’ve lost some real characters that added a lot of the color to the series.  Can you ever forget Haga sliding that Yamaha around the track?  Would that even happen now with all the electronics?

Damn, I’m a sucker for replicas. I’m a marketers dream.

You and Nori’s office.  He only rode for Aprilia two years and only one of those was in WSB.  He has a pretty nice website with photos throughout the years.  The guy has had a lengthy career.  If you haven’t kept track of him, he is currently riding for Swan Yamaha in BSB.

So why is it still for sale?  I can only assume it is because it is priced at collector type pricing ($15,500) and that has really shrunk the market for the bike.  It doesn’t help that Aprilia released the RSV4  that is light years ahead in terms of technology.  If you are an Aprilia collector and have a Haga Replica on your list, now is your chance.

Carbon Beauty – 2004 Aprilia Nera RSV-R

Update 4.18.2012: Originally posted by Andrew in September of last year, our friends at MotoCorsa/Portland Used Bikes have relisted this special limited edition on eBay. Links updated. -dc

Only 100 miles since 2004 and loads of carbon fibre as well as other premium parts from Ohlins and Brembo. The RSV 1000 R Nera goes even further than the RSV R Factory… it goes beyond the common materials, and even further in performance and refinement. Carbon, titanium and magnesium are brought together to form a unique, light-weight, more powerful and more aggressive bike. It was described as “A motorcycle for an elite” and so was made in a limited edition of 200 certified and numbered bikes. The very first one in the USA was delivered to Matt LeBlanc. The Nera was the first in Aprilia’s “Dream” series where they planned to product limited number of exotic bikes. I have to say I love the look of that tank in carbon. You know you would like to have one.

The seller gives us a bit of detail here

Here’s your chance to own a piece of Italian history
#27 of 200! Aprilia RSV-R Nera with only 100 original miles!
Aprilia’s Nera edition boasts a boatload of carbon fiber. It’s everywhere! No expense was spared with the carbon fiber panels and bodywork. If that wasn’t enough, the magnesium OZ wheels plus the full Akrapovic Titanium racing exhaust simply ooze perfection!
With only 100 miles to speak of, it’s never been dropped or abused…heck, it hasn’t been licensed, titled or really ridden (was never sold and remained in the dealer principal’s collection as a display bike). This is the closest you’ll come to a new Aprilia Nera ANYWHERE. They simply do not exist!
Without a doubt will become a VERY collectable bike. Grab this one before it gets away!

Save big $$$ over new MSRP of $39,500.
Now featured at at $27,999!

Would make a great addition to a collection, all-purpose sport bike or hard-core trackday weapon! Big power, torque and reliability from the 998cc, Rotax dual-spark powerplant! Magnesium OZ wheels, Ohlins fork, Ohlins steering damper, Ohlins shock, carbon fiber upper, carbon fiber tank, carbon fiber tail, carbon fiber fairings (just about carbon fiber everywhere) complete the package!

The auction on eBay is here. I would suggest you take your time and look through the pictures to see the finish on the carbon body. A true delight.

The listing is priced about where these bikes were a year or so ago. With the current economy perhaps it is asking a bit much now but then again this is a true rare exotic. You can always hit that “Make Offer” button and see how you get on!

Colin Edwards Replica Aprilia RSV Mille R 2003

Now here we do have a nice rare bike with 461 produced worldwide.  In 2003, Aprilia produced an RSV Mille R Edwards Replica with a livery inspired by the Aprilia RS3 Cube MotoGP motorcycle riden by Colin Edwards, as with the Haga replica from 2002, the motorcycle came with a circuit kit, which included Akrapovic exhausts, a more pressurised airbox, an Eprom injection unit and 57 mm (instead of 51 mm) throttle bodies.  The Mille also featured a type of slipper clutch, which worked by using a vacuum on a closed throttle from the inlet manifold to give the effect of slipper clutch, but only on a closed throttle, whereas most modern examples use a ramp mechanism in the clutch basket.

Up for Auction: an Aprilia Rare Colin Edwards Replica, one of 461 made world wide – street legal track bike – race kit on each machine – Rotax engine, 57-mm throttle bodies, Eprom injection unit, with racing chip – engine management, six speed close ratio transmission, carbon fiber larger air box and snorkel, Akrapovic titanium exhaust, slipper clutch, 16 tooth sprocket, four piston Brembo double floating disk brakes, Olins suspension front and rear, olins steering damper, Heli bars, OZ Blue forged aluminum Anodized wheels on Pirelli’s…rides like a dream – top speed 180MPH.

I bought the bike from a friend who spilled it with 62 miles on it, scratched it up, complained to the insurance company that parts were hard to get and they gave him most of his money back. I had some panels repainted, made sure it was all straight and rode it! It is a wonderful machine but I can only ride one motorcycle, I hate to let it go but…….. I have a low reserve on this bike, that originally sold for over $19,000.
Please ask all questions before bidding, email through ebay, the winner of the auction is responsible for picking the bike up or for shipping to anywhere. A deposit on your Master Card or Visa of $1,000.00 at the end of the auction – the rest in three days. Bidders are welcome to come and view the bike in person, I tried to take as many pictures are allowed to show off the bike and also to show some of the minor scratches.

The eBay Listing can be found here.

RSV Mille R’s are very nice bike sand this example is rather special with a low mileage.  It has got a few bumps and bruises but on a bike such as this it should not be an issue.  Price wise these are a bit of a bargain particularly when compared to other Italian bikes, this would seem to have a value somewhere in the $7k-$9k range based upon other examples being sold.  Happy bidding.

Naked Thunder: 2003 APRILIA RSV-R TUONO Limited

2003 APRILIA RSV-R TUONO Limited

You learn something new everyday.  While working feverishly researching the Tuono Carbon here at the plush RSBFS offices I learned that “Tuono” means “thunder” in Italian.  Thunder and V-twins go hand and hand no doubt.  This is one of the those bikes that really goes under the radar.  I had really forgotten about these bikes until I started reading up on it.  Aprilia definitely did not skimp on it component wise.  For the visually challenged, the Tuono is basically a naked Mille R.  The limited was an initial run of just 200 bikes.  The gold frame being the key identifier.

Here she is:

The details:

APRILIA TUONO RSV-R CARBON LIMITED N° 190 of a 200 production

Only 50 pcs in the States

Very rare and lightweight superbike

Carbon, Carbon/Kevlar, Titanium, Magnesium and Ergal parts.

Lots of options (original Aprilia) and all original parts come with the bike

Newprice with options was over 21,000 $

Magnesium racing Exhaust with Touno RSV-R Chip

Original exhaust & manual come in the original box

Ergal Aprilia Racing footpegs (original come with it)

Carbon Kevlar screen (original come with it)

Carbon Kevlar woven seats   ”                 “

Titanium Oil tank

Ohlins fork and shocks

OZ Racing lightweight wheels

Lots of Carbon and Carbon Kevlar parts

New battery, good tires,

comes with manuals and magazines

If you are into naked sport bikes and want something Italian but not red, this seems like it could be a nice find.  I don’t think you’ll have to worry about the guy next door having one with only 50 brought in for sale.  The bike is being offered for $10,000 and the seller is open to offers.

2003 Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille R Nori Haga #124 Of 300

This is a one owner Haga replica with only 362 miles!  Located in Fowlerville, Michigan is a 2003 Aprilia RSV Mille R Nori Haga replica.  This one has been posted for a couple days but I was waiting for the seller to post pictures to share it with you all.  Only 300 of these were produced worldwide with 60 coming to America.  These replicas came with not only the WSB Haga replica scheme but also:  Blue Ergal tripple clamp with Haga’s signature, production number, and WSB text, Akrapovic titanium exhaust with SS collectors and EPROM map, ten additional hp, 6.6lb weight loss (with Akrapovic system fitted) and all the standard features of the Mille R variant.  This bike comes with the standard exhaust and the Akrapovic system.  The seller doesn’t state much other than the bike is in flawless condition and has always been kept in a heated garage.  The pictures seem to easily agree with this claim.  The asking price appears to be all of $16,500.  If this Haga replica has you jonesing, see the bike on the ApriliaForum.com here.

2004 Aprilia Mille RSV Factory R

I know this isn’t exactly ultra rare, but with only 490 miles and nearly a $20,000.00 MSRP for only $8,500.00 buy-it-now I just had to post it up.

a3a2a1

The RSV R’s don”t get much talk due to that other Italian Motorcycle company, but they make a fine piece of exotica.  The RSV R’s have Ohlin’s, OZ wheels, Brembo brakes and all carbon fiber body work and that is a lot of high end material for what is basically a brand new bike.  The bike has a story and the seller explains….

I purchased this bike new in 2005 for $16,000 and was injured in a car accident not long after, so the bike has been in storage (started, tested and ridden by a friend from time to time) ever since.  So this bike is basically in new condition with less than 500 miles on the odometer. It’s never been abused, dropped and is absolutely perfect in every way.

This is a great looking Italian V-Twin, with super high end components and is cheap, cheap!
