Featured Listing: 2006 Ducati Monster S2R 1000 build!

Ducati has always been known as a performance company. But one of the key elements that stands them apart is that Ducati has always been a styling company as well. Not content with just performance, Ducati has consistently set the standard when it comes to defining a new trend. This was always the case with sport bikes, but Ducati was able to successfully transcend the performance game into the naked cruiser segment with the ultra-popular Monster line. Popular in a non-threatening way, the Monster lineup attracted riders of all types and ages. Ducati was quick to draw the line as wide as possible, incorporating a spread of displacements and even utilizing the liquid-cooled, 4 valve Superbike motors. But the mainstay of the line was always the air-cooled Desmodue, such as today’s featured listing S2R 1000.

Featured Listing: 2006 Ducati Monster S2R 1000!

Based on the dual-spark 1000c SuperSport motor, the S2R incorporates all of the go-fast goodies you would expect, but in an artfully simplistic manner. Instead of yards of carbon fiber / plastic bodywork, the Monster leaves it all out in the open. As a result, these bikes appear muscular and solid. Check out the single sided swing arm. Pull straight off the sport bikes, the Monster sports a slightly relaxed geometry more suited to the streets and boulevards. Fuel injection simplifies cold starting, and gearing is set a bit lower. Seating position is more upright, with good leverage with the wider, flatter bars. Optimized for normal speeds but quite capable of rapid transit, the S2R has all of the goodness you would expect from a SuperSport Ducati – with a fashion Barbie outfit change.

From the seller:
2006 Ducati monster S2R1000 with only 3,987 miles. Runs perfect (ridden regularly even though short highway distances).

Mivv carbon-fiber exhaust, Cycle Cat open clutch cover, Rizoma brake/clutch reservoirs/grips. Ducati Performance carbon-fiber front wheel fender/belly pan/chain guard, and lastly fender eliminator with LED taillight including front/rear turn signals. Only imperfection is a tiny paint bubble the size of a green pea (as shown/circled) on left side of tank.

I have the original mirrors, front faring, rear pegs, clutch cover, chain guard, and all keys including RED key and key card (as shown in pic). Also NO dreaded “tank swell” as some of these have (can be seen in the picture where the clip is that holds the tank in place).

Price: $5,999

The Monster platform is so solid that it makes an excellent basis for modification. All the requisite Ducati performance parts apply here and work well. The cafe racer look is easily obtainable. Ducati themselves took it so far as to create a Carl Fogarty Limited Edition Monster. That’s right, Foggy is immortalized not with a R spec Superbike, but rather a R spec Monster. RSBFS reader Mike has done something similar here, with his S2R model. With a pile of carbon fiber goodies and gorgeous exhaust, Mike has managed to build a very clean Monster – even tighter and more clipped than the original. And not only do you get the output of the build, but there are many OE takeoff parts included as part of the sale. What a bargain!

The Monster is quite possibly the most approachable of the Ducati offerings. It looks right, it sounds right and it goes like you would expect a 2-valve Desmo to go – with torque everywhere. This is not anecdotal, as I have one in the stable (although my wife utilizes it nearly exclusively as her commuter). The S2R is a fantastic riding platform, and promises all of the longevity of every other Pantah-based powered Ducati. This one has fewer than 4,000 miles on it, meaning that it has a LOT of life yet to give. It looks fantastic and is sure to stand out in a crowd. That ask on this is $5,999. For the price you get a lot of performance parts and the stock parts too. Win! If you are interested, give a shout out to Mike: (305) 318-3499 NO TEXTS . Good Luck!!

Garaged Every Night – 2007 Ducati SportClassic Sport 1000 Biposto with 1,180 Miles !

As much as fans cringe when another nearly unused special hits RSBFS, mint examples naturally have the interest of buyers.  This lightly updated SportClassic was used as a display article for a garage customizing company, and is ready for a riding owner.

2007 Ducati SportClassic Sport 1000 Biposto for sale on eBay

Designed by Pierre Terblanche, the SportClassics didn’t break much new ground technologically, but tapped into the fuzzy good memories of past motos.  The DS1000 engine was a revelation, a winning combination of updated desmo valve angles, air/oil cooling, fuel injection, and updated electrics which provided a reliable 92 hp and sweet sound.  Suspension looked forward with 43 mm upside-down forks, and back with dual remote reservoir shocks.  Memories of cleaning spoked wheels must have faded since they are back aboard the SportClassic, and in alloy they complete the retro look.

With a lot of niceties from Rizoma, this monochromatic Sport 1000 looks almost new.  Cam belts are uncovered but guarded, and the wet clutch precludes the normal open cover.  Slightly shorter rear turn signal stalks are the perfect mod.  Having been wheeled in and out of the display garages for the past ten years, this Sport 1000 could use new belts, though valves should be ok and tires would be optional.  There should be a pillion seat under the café cover.  From the eBay auction:

This 2007 Ducati is in great condition and has been properly maintained and kept in my climate controlled garage. It has primarily been used in our RaceDeck Garage Flooring marketing/shows and  the occasional cruise in the canyons. The condition of this show-stopping motorcycle is like it was in a time capsule. Has never been dropped, runs fantastic and a great ride.

As you will see in the photos, this Ducati Sport Classic is not only a show stopper, it is outfitted with the best accessories, such as Termignoni sport exhaust, Rizoma mirrors, Rizoma grips, numerous other Rizoma accessories, radiator guard, tank coat, Speedymoto, recessed taillights and license plate, Ducati Motorcycle cover, etc.

Looking good in garages of a certain age, the Sport 1000 reviewed as a quality all-rounder, and a rise in the handlebar height for ’07 was welcomed.  Most likely a second or third Ducati for the lucky ones, the SportClassic’s statement is in its non-aggression pact.  No race pace or sponsor ads, the Sport 1000 is just here for the good times…

1998 Ducati 900SS FE for sale in San Francisco

Bargain 1998 Ducati 900SS FE (Final Edition)!

My first post on RSBFS was a 900SS FE and I have always liked the classic lines of the old air-cooled Supersports.  For most people and for most street riding, these bikes are more than enough to get that stupid grin on your face without getting into too much trouble.  And $4500 will get you this very nice 1998 Ducati 900SS FE Final Edition (#30 of 300) for sale in San Francisco:

Final Edition #30
10670 Miles
All Stock except for AFAM front & 39tooth Rear Sproket (1k miles)
1k miles on brakes and tires
Magnetic Tank Bag
Battery Tender
2nd Owner
Minor Cosmetic scratches and rear light lense cracked

So there are some cosmetic scratches and the rear lense is cracked, but what do you expect for a 12 year old bike?  And for the bargain asking price, I can easily over look the minor details.  FEs have been hovering around the $5500 – $6000 range, so this one’s a steal.

Also check out Ed’s 900SS/FE website – chock full of good info.  If you end up getting this or any other 900SS FE, don’t forget to get your bike in the 900SS FE registry as well!

Finally, just to show that Supersports can be Supersexy as well, see this tricked out 900SS FE special done up by performance parts dealer Motowheels complete with BST carbon fiber wheels, carbon fiber tank, Rizoma goodies… hmm….
