This 1984 Yamaha RZ350 wears the iconic black and yellow Kenny Roberts livery and signatures, is original aside from some airbox mods and jetting and is with its original owner. It has 15,000 miles on it, but has been used very sparing over the last few decades, and it wears only its second front tire. The rear is similar, though somewhat unsurprisingly it has had three rear tires.

Built as emissions were about to kill street two strokes in this country, the RZ350 wasn’t as simple as its earlier counterparts, with powervalves to ease the two-stroke hit and catalytic converters to calm the EPA, but it was still a deadly simple and effective package. With just 331 pounds pushed around by 50-ish horsepower and roadracer handling, there was little not to like about the bumble-bee liveried machines. Sure, there were simpler ways to go fast, but there’s a certain joy to unrefined fast.

I’m going to let the seller do most of the talking, but this bike is a fantastic example of the breed, and is worth every red cent to the right person. He certainly has come to the right place to find the next steward of this wonderful beast.

1984 RZ350, Kenny Roberts Edition. Original owner, 15K miles. 99% original. You won’t find many in this condition. Still has the stock exhaust with catalytic converters. Last registered in 2011. Always stored inside & under cover. Colorado motorcycle so never exposed to moisture & humidity. Have the original sales paperwork, manual and tool kit. I was the service manager at the shop I bought it from. Outside of an 82 YZ490 hold over I bought at the same time, this was the only new motorcycle I ever had. The 490 was just a cheap dirt bike but this was something special.

Only modifications I made was to remove the snorkel from the airbox and drill some holes in the top of the airbox cover, add Boyesen reeds (have the snorkel and stock reeds) and rejet.

It’s on the second front tire (which would need replaced if you’re going to ride it as it has come cracking) and the third rear tire. The second rear tire I put on was a take-off from my road race bike in the late 80’s. Unfortunately it rubbed on the chain guard, so I notched it to clear. In hindsight I wish I hadn’t done that but you can only tell if you look closely at the backside of the guard. Replace the chain guard and top cover of the filter box and it’s 100% original out side of tires, chain and battery.

Original spark plugs and grips. All hoses and rubber are original and in good shape. Paint and plastic are in good condition and still shine. Has some minor scuffs and scratches as would be expected for a rider. Worst is the scratch on the LH side of the fairing and crack at the top of the fairing on same side (from vibration).

To get this in riding condition and ready for selling, the following was done: New battery and chain. Flush out the tank – clean, just a few very minor spots of surface rust near top, Clean carbs: amazingly clean for not being ridden for almost 10 years – only minor varnish in the bottom of one which cleaned up easily. Changed oil and coolant. Clean & oil air filter – which is also original and still in good condition; not falling apart. There was evidence of mice putting some seeds up there but that is all. Changed brake fluid – rear reservoir was very clean. The front one was very dirty and had considerable moisture/crud in it. Sight window is cloudy and shows it age.

Everything works. Runs and rides well – you wouldn’t know this is a 35 year old, non-restored motorcycle. Of course despite it’s great condition, it’s still bought as is.

The asking price is absolutely in line with the provenance and condition of this machine. We’re not dealing with a Craigslist crapshoot here, and the ask reflects that.

Featured Listing: 1991 Suzuki RGV250 SP2

The 1991 Suzuki RGV250 SP2 was the baddest two stroke sportbike Hamamatsu was kicking out in the early ‘90s, with a dry clutch, wide-ratio box and fully adjustable suspension adding even more agility and precision to the little bike’s already lithe and precise nature. With 60-ish horsepower when uncorked and a shade over 300 pounds to push around, the updates meant the reedy little RGV could seriously hustle. As in, give supersports problems in the twisties hustle.

Thanks to those crude, dirty little powerplants that make horsepower like the Middle East makes the oil to run them, the bikes didn’t need to be massively complicated to produce prodigious speed. With conveniences like oil injection, the bikes weren’t even that cumbersome to refuel, as long as you checked the oil level at gas stops, you were good to go.

This 1991 Suzuki RGV250 SP2 has been legally imported to the US and treated to a cosmetic restoration and some tasty Tyga go-fast pieces. The bike shows its age on many of the aluminum pieces and the dash, but the wheels and bodywork have been repainted and look excellent.

I bought this bike in Japan about 3 years ago. It was legally imported into the U.S. and it has a clean and clear Arizona street title and plate. In most cases with 11 digit VIN bikes you will not be able to register this in California.

This is a very rare Sport Production II version of the VJ22, the SP2 came with a dry clutch, the wide ratio transmission, fully adjustable suspension front and rear and aluminum lower triple clamp and rotor carriers.

This is a lower mile original bike. I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL EXHAUST AND REARSETS if you want to put the bike all the way back to stock!

Very low original miles at around 10k, not raced or abused. This bike had some light scratches and sun fading on the bodywork so I went about the painstaking task of getting all the OEM bodywork repainted in original colors! I have also just powder coated the wheels back to an original gloss white.

The bodywork is all original and the paint is perfect with zero miles since it was restored. The bike has brand new Michelin Street Radials, new valve stems, full service front to back including all new fluids, plugs, coolant, new air filter,brand new Tyga Full Exhaust system, new Tyga rearsets and brand new chain and sprockets!!

Bike starts on 1 to 2 kicks when cold and 1 kick when warm. All electrics work and it has a good battery installed. All wiring is intact and original. Oil injection in place. The bike comes with a complete new carb rebuild and full jetting kit, carbs are currently stock and fine, but this kit will allow you to jet the bike for your location/conditions.

There is some light corrosion that I have not attempted to clean up on various parts of the bike as seen, so it will clean up even better than it looks now. ! Some fading on the passenger seat, and to a lesser degree the rider seat as well, bit no tears.

Have not seen an early RGV VJ22 SP with the banana swingarm this clean in a very long time, and few of these survive in Japan…those that do are not cheap…or not for sale. Don’t sleep on this one….really one of the nicer 250 two strokes from my collection.

Please be real: 1990 Ducati 851 SP2

You’d think at a $55,000 ask, it wouldn’t be beyond the pale to ask for more than two photos of a motorcycle, but what do we know? And, be that as it may, most motorcycles are not the 1990 Ducati 851 SP2, a rare-as-rocking-horse-poo repli-racer from Ducati’s renaissance as a superbike racing brand.

As the name implies, this was the second evolution of the 851 Sport Production, and came with bigger valves, a 45mm Termignoni exhaust and fully-adjustable Ohlins suspension on both ends. The four-valve liquid-cooled v-twin in the standard 851 was exotic enough for most, but the SP2 mill was truly special, pushing out nigh on 120 horsepower from two cylinders at a time when that was an impressive figure from four pots.

Unfortunately, the pictures don’t do much justice to this machine, though it appears to be in very clean condition with a set of modern Michelin tires. The shot of the triple clamp matches the description’s claim that this is bike number 250.

City Slicker – 1985 Ducati 750 F1 Race Replica

As if a 34 year-old Ducati race replica weren’t rad enough, this 750 F1 has been improved in just about every way to be an up-to-date race shop’s rep.  Developed in NYC and now just a few clicks north, this sparkling 1985 model would be a hit in any concours or vintage race.

Ducati was taking on water in the early 1980’s, but had four consecutive F2 championships in the TT series which competed with FIM Grands Prix.  Some privateer successes with F2-based 750cc machines led the factory to developed its own F1 race bike, and the Pantah-engined 750 F1 road machine.  The F1 brought a host of firsts for Ducati – first trellis frame for the road, first monoshock, first floating brake rotors, first 2-into-1 exhaust, first alloy tank.  Though not scary powerful or all that lightweight, it was very sporty for the time and a great basis for a race team’s mods.

Long time previous owner and TT maven Lou Saif curated the long list of updates to this now dedicated race machine.  Suspension was modernized, wheel sizes normalized, and tweaks copied from factory endurance racers.  Soon to be ex-owner Gregory Rathe had these comments on – bikeexif.com –

Lou owned this 750 F1 for almost 20 years, and developed it as a replica of Marco Lucchinelli’s factory bike. “Lou’s intention was to make this bike a street racer, and as light and reliable as possible,” says Rathe. So the motor is mostly original except for the cams, Supermono lightweight gears, and a (very loud) titanium exhaust. The wheels are 17″ x 4.5″/6″ magnesium, and Lou shortened the tail and replicated the lights of the works bikes. The front fairing is also in the racing style, and the headlights are quick release—like those used for night racing. The bike is sprinkled with titanium hardware, and weight was removed from everywhere possible—so it now tips the scales at only 305 pounds. Isn’t it just gorgeous?

The 750 F1’s popularity led to three special editions named for challenging race venues – Montjuich, Laguna Seca, and Santa Monica, and some F1 racers which did well in the Italian TT series.  Meanwhile the new Cagiva management reconsidered their plan to absorb the brand and Ducati rose to the occasion.  An interesting snapshot of the end of an era, and a museum-quality treatment of the subject.

Featured Listing: Never-started 1987 Yamaha FZR750R

This 1987 Yamaha FZR750R is the result of a Herculean act of self-control, as it has remained entirely unmolested, unstarted and unridden for its entire 32-year life. For a bike with a sweet-handling Deltabox frame, state-of-the-art for the time handling and a smooth, reliable and hugely capable 750cc 20-valve Genesis inline four, we’re not sure how that’s possible. The odometer shows just 1.2 miles, which is low enough that they could have been accumulated over 32 years of moving the thing around.

The 1987 Yamaha FZR750R is the middle kid, lighter than the all-conquering FZR1000, but slightly slower, but a slightly stouter mount for those who thought the 600 was a tad anemic. True to the rest of the line, the middleweight FZR was blessed with fluid and predictable handling to complement the superb engine. Early brakes apparently left something to be desired, though on a bike this pristine, we doubt that is a concern. Still, with 106 horses at the ready, this thing would be incredibly tempting to give a once-over and hit the road.

To add to the mystique, this bike is one of just 200 of its kind sent to the U.S. in 1987 to homologate the brand for the AMA Superbike series. Suffice it to say, with the scant mileage and low production, the chances of running across another any time in the near future are not good.

The Norton International was the Yamaha R1M of the era surrounding WWII. Developed in the early 1930s as a road-going version of Norton’s fearsome Isle of Man weapons, it continually evolved until Hitler’s push into Poland stopped production at the end of the decade. Before The War, the 500cc Norton International Model 30 and its 350cc Model 40 sibling had been blessed with telescoping forks and an alloy head and cylinder.

When production resumed in the late ‘40s, the telescopic forks were still holding things together at the front, but the alloy engine had succumbed to postwar materials shortages. Still, even with almost a 20-year run under its belt at that point, the International was still pretty close to motorcycling’s nadir.

The 500cc four-stroke thumper was good for around 30 horsepower, which seems a little weak-kneed, until you consider that Royal Enfield can barely muster that out of their brand-new single-cylinder engines. That grunt pushed around just under 400 pounds and was routed through an entirely enclosed transmission. Fun fact: the gearbox in these things was stout enough that it remained unchanged long after the International was out of production.

This 1949 Norton International Model 30 is resplendent in black, red and high-polish livery and looks like it just rode out of a grainy black-and-white photo. The seller says this one packs the alloy top end, and can be had with a spare for an additional 1,500 Euro. It is in near-perfect condition, but sports the rough-hewn patina only a 70-year-old hand-built race replica can muster.

As beautiful as it is, this Norton is way off the ranch for us, as our usual fare ranges between 1985 and 2004. That said, it’s an important, special and very nice piece of motorcycling history that we just couldn’t ignore. For as plentiful as bikes like this 1987 Yamaha FZR1000 were in their day, it’s becoming increasingly rare to see them pop up on the local Craigslist, as time and the squiddly behavior they enable take their toll. But nice ones are still out there, and more often than not you’ll see them for sale here.

When the 1987 Yamaha FZR1000 dropped, it was one of a few bikes with mind-bending numbers that signalled the dawn of the superbike age. Honda had their VFRs, Suzuki their GSXRs and Yamaha had the FZR1000, which carried the most modern looks and eye-watering power numbers. By today’s standards, where the price of a nicely-equipped Civic will get you a 210-horsepower Aprilia RSV4, the FZR’s 135 horsepower doesn’t seem that crazy. But back in ’87, it might as well have been a Saturn IV rocket.

That grunt let the big FZR hit 60 in less than three seconds and run to a 160 mph top speed, which is fast by any standard, and far and away enough for any mortal.

This 1987 Yamaha FZR1000 is in beautiful condition, especially considering its age and the 46,000 miles on the odometer. There are age-associated blemishes here and there and a couple stress cracks, but it is otherwise flawless. The only deviations from stock are an aftermarket windscreen and a manual switch for the cooling fan.

For a rider or a collector, there is little to dislike about this one. With Yamaha’s reputation for durability, even the relatively high mileage should not be a concern.

Featured Listing: 1991 Suzuki RGV 250M in Canada

There are so many iterations of the Suzuki RGV 250 Gamma running around that you either need to be a savant to keep them all straight, or refresh yourself every time one comes up. There are VJ21s, VJ22s, VJ23s and a bunch of SP variants in between. Some are corked, some are uncorked, which means, depending on the variant, you get anywhere from 40-odd to nearly 70 horsepower. 

What you have here is a 1991 Suzuki RGV250 M, a UK-market screamer that was delivered without any restrictive bits and a full stable of about 65 horsepower in a bike that weighed the best part of nothing. We’re talking Suzuki DRZ400 territory for a focused street/track bike with more than 30 horsepower on the 400 and a set of sticky tires and cutting edge suspension. 

Unfortunately for the United States, there was no need for mass-market, fast 250s, as tiered licensing has never been a thing here, and insurance on a 600 is pretty cheap. So, newly licensed riders could hop on a CBR600 and never have to worry about fouled plugs or fuel mixture. The shame, of course, is that advanced riders who didn’t want the thrust of a supersport or literbike never got their hands on 250 two strokes, which have a habit of showing up higher-horsepower mounts.

This RGV250 has been ridden extremely sparingly since being moved to Canada 15 years ago, and shows little wear and tear. It looks like it could use tires, but comes with a raft of spares, including complete bodywork and a replacement fuel tank.
