Month in Review: March 2013, 27 Bikes in Total

Here is the latest round up of bike sales or bikes that saw high bid activity. We’re starting with Feb 25th and moving forward as they hadn’t been reported on in the last Month in Review as they were still open at the time of publishing. Each picture is linked to eBay as they haven’t been archived yet.

We blogged over 60 bikes in March and these are the ones we have sale values on. A great read for savvy buyers and sellers alike!

Rare? Check. Two Stroke? Check- ’86 Honda NS400R

Location: Peyton, Colorado   Mileage: 420   Price: Auction

NS400R

Hey, you. Yeah, you. You want an extremely rare two stroke, three cylinder sportbike? Well, I’ve got one right here. Two strokes are hard enough to find here in the States, but if you want something even more unique, go with the NS400R. It’s a three cylinder party guaranteed to get you noticed.

NS400R

Here’s what the seller has to say about this bike-

I have my 1986 Honda NS400r up for sale.  It has 420.3 all original miles on it, the odometer says 676.4KM as it is not in miles. The bike has rebuilt carbs with all new ebay purchased OEM parts.  It is jetted for 2000 feet above sea level.  I have not started it in over a year, but drained the carbs before storing it.  I kicked on the first start last time I tried.  There is a crack in one of the rear view mirrors.  Bike is missing chain guard, pillions and rear pegs, turn signals, and sprocket cover.  Paint will be a 8.9 out of 10.  Some decals are rubbed or scratched.  In a good market the bike is worth over 20k, but we are not in a good market so it is priced accordingly.  The bike is in the sought after HRC colors(red, white, and blue).  Minor scratches and dings, but overall incredible.  The bike does not have a title but I have a clean VIN inspection completed by the Colorado State Patrol.  It was used as a track bike by my friend who passed away 2 years ago, and he left me 5 motorcycles.  He was a racer in California from way back.  The bike(s) was stored in his shed for many many years until he passed.  The bike is safety wired for the track.  The bike is 100% all original with the exception of the ignition switch and I have a spare gas tank fitted to the bike as the original has a dent in it but is also included.  The bike is a 2 stroke 3 cylinder monster!  They bike also comes with the factory honda rear stand that is impeccably rare and expensive!!!  This bike is sooooo rare in the U.S. and also on ebay!  I dont need to sell it, but would like some extra room in the garage. This bike will not dissapointed you.  I will try to make a video walk through to show everything on the bike. Bike is #197 off of the line.  Thanks

And a couple more picks-

NS400R

NS400R

So the seller describes this bike as pretty much bone stock and very clean. Certainly the mileage is low and hopefully it’s been well maintained. This is a bike you’re just not gonna see on every street corner.

So if you fancy rare Honda’s or rare two strokes or rare sportbikes (which I’m assuming you do), then you may want to check this auction out!

Weekend Mailbag and Laguna Seca MotoGP 2012 (RC30, RS125, Jota 1000, 888 SP4,

Hey guys,

Here’s a quick post from California with all the best of picks, suggestions, and personal bikes for sale. Mike, Jared, Rem and Dan are all here and in addition to checking out all the action at Laguna we may troll the parking lot for interesting bikes for sale too! They’ll be posted first to our Facebook page out of convenience but we’ll try to pull them all together for the site later in the week as well. Look for us in with the RSBFS logo on our backs and say hey!

dc

Lets get things started right: Honda RC30 for sale in Costa Mesa on eBay. Currently at about $20k reserve not met with over a week to go. Maybe your MotoGP souvenir for the way home?

Dan spotted this sharp looking RS125 on eBay, with a title and just under 14k miles.

Or how about this AMAZING 1978 Laverda 1000 on ADVRider (you need to make an account to view) with less than 1500 original miles. $13k. Thanks for the forward Joe!

Jamie send us this gorgeous 1992 Ducati 888 SP4 for sale in Australia for $45k AUD.

Jeremy keeps a sharp eye on the San Francisco area ads and this one caught our eye: 1986 Honda NS400R with a reported new from Honda motor! Asking $6200 with the lowers and spares.

Thank You Great Britain: 1996 Suzuki RGV250SP, 1987 Yamaha SDR200 And 1985 Honda NS400R Project

Thank You Great Britain:  1996 Suzuki RGV250SP, 1987 Yamaha SDR200 And 1985 Honda NS400R Project

After a week where I thoroughly enjoyed setting off high explosives in celebration of sending the Brits packing I have to throw a big “thank you” in the Queens direction.  We American’s had taken the week off for the most part and there aren’t a lot of for sale signs out there right now.  Enjoy these three from the UK.

First up is a nice stock (I’ll get to the paint) and low mile VJ23.  The seller lists the mileage at a very low 4,500 miles.  If accurate, that is one of the lower mile 23’s I’ve seen in a while.

I didn’t call this one a Lucky Strike 23 (the seller does not either) because it looks like it is a respray.  The turn signal should not be white and  a clip on the front fender is white which makes it look like it has been sprayed.  The green in the Lucky Strike symbol seems to be a little off as well but that might just be the camera.  Even though it is a respray at least they got the proportions correct.  I can’t tell you how many butchered Lucky Strike resprays I’ve seen.

I consider the paint a relatively minor aspect of the bike.  Paint can always be changed.  More important is the stock condition.  It looks like it hasn’t been touched.  I’m even  noticing stock brakes lines and stock rear sprocket.  I’m going to assume it is still in restricted form.

See the center piece of the lower?  That should be black.  The mirrors have been painted as well.

I’d take a serious look at this one if you want a unmolested 23.

Here is the auction.

Now this looks like fun:  a 1987 Yamaha SDR200.  A single cylinder two stroke, wrapped in a great looking trellis frame.  They didn’t last long as Yamaha only produced them for two years in the Japanese domestic market.

The chrome frame is OEM by the way.  You can see they skimped on the front disc with there only being one and probably with the usual basic suspension they would put on domestic market bikes.  I bet there are plenty of options though with that engine if you like to tinker.

I like it damn it!  It has that minimalist yet modern look that so many builders seem to be after now a days.  Plus it smokes!

Tiny!

From the auction:

Yamaha SDR 200 (1987) ,  I brought this bike a few months ago in a bit of a state and have spent hours for the last few months doing it up, anyone who knows anything about these SDR’s will know how rare and sort after they are. The beauty of this sale is you get one complete perfectly fine bike PLUS a near complete bike in bits as spares! there is a spare frame, swing arm, sub frames, complete engine, very clean barrel as pictured, tail piece and a massive box full of components! like i said you wouldn’t be far off building another complete bike from the spares! only selling due to needing the cash.

I have had the bike frame, engine cases, forks, etc polished, wheels powder coated, and rebuilt it up from a frame with new nuts and bolts etc to make it as good as possible, the only thing the bike requires to finnish it is a speedo cable, it runs perfectly and goes very well for a 200cc YPVS engine! all lights, indicators etc work as they should. no problems at all.

There you go, almost a two for one deal.

The auction is here.

Even though these bikes are in the UK I thought this one might have some appeal to American buyers.  Even though this bike is over 25 years old, I know most American buyers aren’t game to ship a two stroke to their home. With this one torn down it could easily be shipped  without fuss.

I wouldn’t normally post a bike in pieces but read the story:

HONDA NS 400 RF FULL POWER UK MODEL,  1 OWNER FROM NEW,  25000 MILES,  FULL SERVICE HISTORY, USED FROM NEW ( 1985 ) TO 1990 ONLY THEN PARKED UP ,  IT REMAINED PARKED UP UNTIL 2010 WHEN THE OWNER DISMANTLED IT TO RENOVATE IT, HE HAD SOME PARTS  POWDER COATED READY FOR REBUILD BUT SADLY PASSED AWAY BEFORE HE COULD COMPLETE THE RENOVATION, I PURCHASED THIS BIKE FROM HIS RELATIVE,  I HAVE THE ORIGINAL REG DOCUMENT,  THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE RECEIPT,  SERVICE BOOK,OWNERS MANUAL,THE ONLY MOT FROM 1988,A MASS OF RECEIPTS FOR SERVICE AND PARTS INCLUDING A FULL ENGINE REBUILD IN 1988, ALL RECEIPTS ARE FROM THE SUPPLYING DEALER,  A METICULOUS RECORD OF EVERYTHING BOUGHT FOR THE BIKE DURING OWNERSHIP,  ALSO A RECORD OF MPG. ACHIEVED OVER THE FULL 25000 MILES,  I HAVE BOTH IGNITION KEYS, EVEN THE HONDA OWNERS CARD, A STACK OF MAGAZINES FROM WHEN HE PURCHASED THE BIKE, I EVEN HAVE TWO THIRDS OF A GALLON OF THE GENUINE SYNTHETIC HONDA 2 STROKE OIL FROM 1989,  THE BIKE IS COMPLETE EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKE DISCS WHICH I AM INFORMED THE OWNER DISCARDED AS THEY WERE UN – SERVICEABLE ( AVAILABLE ON EBAY NEW ),  THE ENGINE TURNS OVER FREELY,  IT ALSO HAS A COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE MANUAL AND PARTS MANUAL, THE BODYWORK IS IN LOVELY CONDITION AND IS AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS IN THE PICTURES, AS ARE THE END CANS,  THE SEAT IS LIKE NEW , TYRES ARE GOOD WITH NO CRACKS OR SIGNS OF PERISHING, IT HAS A FULL STAINLESS NUT AND BOLT KIT WITH IT, THIS IS A PROJECT THAT WILL NEED PARTS CLEANING/POLISHING AND A FULL REBUILD BUT WILL BE VERY REWARDING AS THESE NS 400’S UK MODELS ARE QUITE RARE NOW AND A ONE OWNER WITH THIS AMOUNT OF HISTORY AND PAPERWORK IS UNHEARD OF,  A GOOD INVESTMENT NOW AS THERE IS A LOT OF INTEREST IN THE BIG 2 STROKES NOW,  THIS IS A 3 CYLINDER V CONFIGURATION ENGINE, IT IS THE TRUE GP REPLICA OF THE DAY FROM THE FREDDIE SPENCER ERA

It sounds like a great project for anyone interested in a restoration.  Follow this link for a lot more photos.

Here is the auction.

Good things come in threes: 1986 Honda NS400R

For Sale: 1986 Honda NS400R

For all you two stroke fans, here is one that could be a real gem. I say “could be” simply because there is not a lot of information available. Up for grabs is a Honda NS400R – a V-3 stroker inspired by the race winning Honda ridden by Freddie Spencer during his dominant years. This bike is located in Ontario, Canada.

From the seller:
Near mint, mileage in kms. intact and no missing parts.

Original with the exception of steel braided front brake lines

This is a collector bike.

drives nicely.

This is the NS to purchase for sure!

With Honda two stroke power, an aluminum chassis, a 16″ front wheel, 160 KG claimed dry weight and about 70 HP on tap, the NS400R had the power of a 500 with the lightweight handling of a 250. Today these numbers are a bit tame, but in the day this was ground-breaking stuff. With good looks (this is my favorite livery) and that link to Freddie Spencer, this is power and poser all rolled into one!

This bike has about 10,700 miles on the all metric clocks. It looks to be in nice shape from the minimal pictures, and the seller’s text does not do anything to scare me off. Interested parties should ceratinly contact the seller for more pics and info. The current bid is still below $3k with reserve in place. How high will it go? Check out the auction here and let us know what you think this one might be worth. Good Luck!

1986 Honda NS400R Rothmans Replica For Sale!

Location: San Diego, CA

Miles: 28,862mi (46,179Km)

Price: $6,000 BIN

Are you a big Freddie Spencer fan? If so, this might be your opportunity to ride like Fast Freddie, or at least look like you can. Spencer brought GP titles to Honda with the NS500 and NSR500 and apparently was fast enough to win the 500cc and 250cc championship in 1985. To commemorate Freddie’s successes on the track, Honda released the V3 NS400R in famous
Rothman’s livery. Praised for its easiness to ride and handling prowess do to its short wheel-base, the NS400R is a sure fire way to carve up your favorite roads.

The particular NS400R up for auction here looks to be in very good condition for a 25 year-old bike. It has clocked about 29k miles, but doesn’t show signs of an abusive ownership. The seller does a good job of documenting some small scratches with photos as well. I do however notice that the “Rothmans Honda” decals on the lower fairing are non-existant. I would be curious to know why. Though, I have noticed some variation on Rothmans reps that lack certain logos.

From the seller:

1986 Honda NSR 400 , 3 cylinder, 2 stroke. Looks good, some scratches, strong runner. Orig Paint.  Milage converted from Km reading on speedo. Minor scratches on bike as shown in pictures. Still, pretty good shape for a 25 year old unrestored sport bike. Cali title in hand. Reg Expired 2007, but is on PNO , so no penalties.  Larger pictures can be e-mailed, direct if closer look for blemishes is desired. Bike always stored indoors , and run every couple of months to keep healthy. Have very large bike collection being thinned down to make more space. See pictures. Numerous pictures to show the good and the bad of it. Overall, a pretty well preserved bike. Videos on You Tube. 59 year old owner, former bike wrench and former shop owner. Every effort has been made to show condition of bike with pictures and video. Can e-mail better, larger pictures directly , on request. Bike in exc cond, though no warranty expressed or implied. Sold AS – IS.

There you have it. A good condition Honda NS400R for sale right here in the U.S. I don’t see any major flaws in the bike and the seller appears to be up front with the overall condition of the bike. The price is definitely right in the range of a bike in this condition as I have seen lower mileage examples in the $9k range. You can make it yours today buy taking a look at the auction here!
