1993 Ducati 888 SPO: Yep Another One!!

Here’s another rare sportbike out of the San Francisco bay area; another 1993 Ducati 888 SPO for sale on Craigslist:

1988 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in San Francisco1988 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in San Francisco1988 Ducati 888 SPO For SaleDucati 888 SPO For Sale

quote from seller’s Craigslist listing:

FOR SALE: A beautiful 1993 888 SPO with 13,700 miles. Your chance to own a piece of history, the last of the hand built Ducatis and the father to the 916. 1 of 200 imported into the USA in 1993 to meet homologation requirements for AMA racing. A truly special machine that helped Ducati win the World Superbike Championship in 1991 and 1992, hence the #1 on the tail section.

Purchased in 2000 with 5,200 miles. Service records since then for major service intervals i.e. belts, valves and throttle body synch done by BCM Ducati in NH as well as by Desmoto in San Francisco.

Bike is stock and in excellent condition. Some minor scratches and chips from riding it. Runs perfectly and is very clean. Has factory rear stand included. Sadly it must go since I only have room for one Italian mistress in the stable.

Please call or email me for more details and pics. Pipes and front discs on bike in photo are not stock and not included.

With a $10888 asking (clever), this is one of the more expensive triple eights to be listed on this blog. While most Ducatisti will agree this where they should be, I think this seller may have a long wait before finding a buyer considering what other examples here in the states have been going for.

A Pair of Ducati 900SS Superlight’s For Sale

Mancation Seattle Dec 08 005

While I was up in Seattle recently for the International Motorcycle Show, we stopped by Ducati of Seattle. I spotted this nice looking Superlight for sale in their garage:

1993 Ducati Superlight For Sale in Seattle

according to the Ducati Seattle website:

Miles: 20,543 mi.
Kehin flat slide carbs, Arrow pipes, Very Clean Bike!
Price Reduced: $7,899.00*

And the second Superlight on the radar today I had originally spotted a year ago on my old blog. While fairly pricey, you can’t deny the miles:

1993 Ducati Superlight on Craigslist for $9500:

Ducati Superlight For Sale

quote from seller’s Craigslist posting:

1993 Limited Edition Ducati 900ss Superlight . Only 2200 miles. Certified and documented from original owner Bradly Krasus finding partners of Kinko . Currently registered and titled. Bike was purchased from Santa Barbara Dealership and remained in CA entire life. There are unique features on the Superlight limited edition and not easy to find in such condition and low miles. Excellent addition to any collection .

These are pretty rare bikes and I think it’s an interesting opportunity for a prospective buyer to consider a well worn example or the museum piece.

1993 Ducati Superbike 888 SPO: Just In Time For Christmas

That make 4 Ducati 888‘s listed on this blog for sale this year! If you’ve been waiting, this looks like another good one.

1993 Ducati Superbike 888 SPO on eBayMotors for $8300:

Ducati 888 For Sale with Fast by Ferracci ExhaustDucati 888 For Sale with Fast by Ferracci ExhaustDucati 888 For Sale with Fast by Ferracci ExhaustDucati 888 For Sale

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

Hello & Good day! Up for auction is my 1993 Ducati 888 SPO. There were reportedly only 300 sent to the USA and I’ve got one of them! She is in great condition with many upgrades. She has been meticulously maintained and looked after. Got her in 2000 with 8k+ and I’ve put only 3.5k+ miles since then. Oil & filter changed regularly. She had just gotten a timing belt change, injector synch, brand new Michelin Pilot Powers front and rear and new battery all done within the past 500 miles. Amenities speaking, she has an upgraded Brembo GP radial Front Master Cylinder, Blue Kevlar Front and Rear Brake lines, new EBC Black front and rear brake pads, Corbin Solo Seat, Carbon Fiber Front and Rear Fenders, Fast by Ferracci Carbon Fiber Exhaust, Tinted Windscreen and Vented Clutch Cover. There are no mechanical issues to report. She will be a turn the key and run type of bike. I need to state that there is a minute dime-sized ding on the right side of the tank; it is really unnoticeable from the pictures. I also took the liberty of lining the extreme bottom of the left and right side fairings with Hercules Truck Bed Liner; I really got annoyed at how much pebbles and road debris tore up the bottom side red paint.

The only other Ducati’s of this vintage and price range that I would consider would be a 748, or a Superlight. And even in that company, I think the 888 is the bike of choice.

2001 Ducati MH900e Mike Hailwood Evoluzione

I’ve been keeping an eye on Ducati Sport Classics recently when I spotted this rare beauty on eBayMotors; A 2001 Ducati MH900e Mike Hailwood Evoluzione:

2001 Ducati Mike Hailwood Evo For SaleDucati Mike Hailwood Evoluzione For Sale2001 Ducati MH900e For SaleDucati MH900e For Sale

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

This bike is clearly a special, unique and very limited edition bike. Only 2000 made and released online thru Ducati’s website on Midnight of the New Year 2000.

I have all service records for this bike, including original manuals and the memorable numbered plaque. I also have the Red race stand it came with including the original crate face, which the number of the bike is printed 319 / 2000. The bike just got a complete full service at PRO ITALIA on 12/2/08. It has new tires, and the Stainless Staintune exhaust. I also have the red Ducati Cover, that has kept it covered and in great shape. The original exhaust is also available.

The bike has never been dropped or abused. The bike is turn key and ready for the road or for a collector. I have put ZERO miles on it since it was completely serviced at PRO ITALIA. Current Mileage = 3955

The MH900e was built as a tribute by then Ducati design chief Pierre Terblanche to commemorate the inspiration he attributed to Mike Hailwood winning the 1978 Tourist Trophy race. There were only 2000 of these bikes built, and only 500 made it to the U.S.

The seller has it listed with a $13.9k buy-it-now shown. Having covered only a few thousand miles, this looks like a great buy considering brand new Sport Classics go for about this much!

  • The Ducati Sport Classic Blog, which features a great section on the MH900e.
  • DucatiSuite – a website with many tutorials on the care and feeding of Ducati’s, also has a section on the MH900e related to the bike the author owned.

1998 Ducati Superbike 996RS: They Don’t Get Much More Rare Than This!

One of two bikes used for the 1998 season by Troy Bayliss in the British Superbike Series. This bike has been in storage since 2000. Check out this eBayMotors auction for the bike that would eventually land him a ride in the World SuperBike series.

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

Own a piece of history, Troy Bayliss # 32 GSE Racing 996RS. Bike has been in heated storage since 2000. We just got it out of storage and replaced the belts and serviced the bike to be ridden once again. Bike comes complete with all documentation including a letter of authenticity from Paolo Ciabatti Ducati Corse. Bike was purchased direct from GSE and imported into the USA. This Bayliss bike is as raced and is in perfect unmolested condition. This was the full JHP/GSE effort constructed for the 1998/1999 season with Troy as the pilot. Comes with roller started and all the paper work.

1998 #32 TROY BAYLISS DUCATI 996RS BRITISH SUPERBIKE FROM JOHN HACKET RACING TEAM

Collector race cars and bikes are not really an arena I’m well versed in, but one thing is for sure: It’s a very rare machine anyway, and it’s been ridden by Troy Bayliss. It’d look great parked under the Christmas tree I’m sure!

Check Out my HockenheimRing Museum Pictures

I spent a couple weeks in Germany this past spring and I stopped by the HockenheimRing Museum. The museum is chocked full of motorcycles with just a few racecars on display. Here’s my write-up of the visit to the HockenheimRing Museum at my other blog.

Hope you enjoy and if you have any info on the models displayed, please feel free to either leave a comment below or click through the individual image on Flickr. Thanks!

1993 Ducati 888 SPO: Yep Another One For Sale!

This 888 SPO is being sold in San Francisco for $11.5k on Craigslist. It sure looks like a cream puff and the owner’s description sounds like this bike has been a labor of love.

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

1993 888SPO. Excellent, almost flawless condition. 8470 miles. Fully maintained, oil changed every 500 – 1000 miles. Valves, belts, and all fluids at around 8k miles. FBF chip, modified airbox, Termi cans. CF fender & hugger, Pro Italia CF under tail kit. Ohlins shock. 41 tooth rear sprocket. New Pirelli Corsa 3’s. Great runner. All stock equipment and manuals included. Everyone that sees this bike and knows about them tells me to never sell it.

The seller joined the discussion on the Yahoo 851/888 mailing list and states the bike is being sold as a result of divorce. Someone help this guy out!
