Featured Listing – 2009 Ducati 1098R Bayliss Limited Edition #106/500

Troy Bayliss won the Superbike World Championship for Ducati three times between 2001 and 2008, on three different generations of desmoquattro superbike.  Ducati saluted his career with a great special edition -R in 2009, with his race number and Aussie flag livery.  Fittingly for a homologation special, number 106 of 500 has been improved for track use, but turned under 1,000 miles.

2009 Ducati 1098R Bayliss Limited Edition #106/500

An major update for 2009 was the use of the testastretta "Evoluzione" engine, with a majority of titanium internals making 180 hp and 99 ft.-lbs. torque right off the showroom floor.  The archetypal trellis frame has been beefed up for the occasion, and components are the best that Öhlins, Brembo, and Marchesini had to offer.  Hidden in the carbon fairing are traction control with eight settings, and a data storage and analysis module.

Always intended for the track, the owner Chris has made a few choice mods but fewer miles.  Recent heavy maintenance was done on time not miles, either way ready for a new rider.  Kyle Racing suspension upgrades are advertised as more linear for the monoshock and adjustable for the triple-trees.  Most take-off parts and limited edition swag are included, and an aftermarket set of track bodywork could be negotiated.  Chris's description:

Basics: 983 mi, single owner purchased from Ducati Winchester. #106/500. Waiting on paper title from DMV. Major service was done last year (belts/fluids/etc) and has 25mi since. New Supercorsa front and rear installed at that time.

-Dan Kyle triples, rear linkage, and revalved shock w/spring rated for 185# if i remember correctly
-Vortex rearsets
-Clutch cover is aftermarket but I don't remember who made it
-Race exhaust and ecu have always been on the bike
-1/4 turn throttle installed

Stock parts included:
-DDA module but no associated CD or manual
-standard exhaust and ecu
-clutch cover
-Bayliss LE plaque and bike cover
-rear shock w/linkage and triples

-nick and small scratches on tank in seat area
-tank has expanded slightly, making contact with the factory steering stabilizer
-belly pan has 1/4" crack on brake side

Though all 1098's are better suited for the track than the road, #106 with Chris's set-up might be even more so.  Most 1098's have low mileage, and -R's even less, but despite a nick here and there, this example's condition is remarkable.  The 1098R is a high plateau in the superbike landscape, the Bayliss commemorative a peak, and this particular LE a great combination of more and less - power to weight, mods to originality, collectibility to miles.  Chris asks $24,500 and can be reached by email - here -.

21 Questions: 2009 Ducati 1098R Bayliss

Actually, there are fewer questions than 21 when it comes to this model Ducati. I think the major ones to ask are "where?" and "how much?" The rest will pretty much figure itself out. With low miles, unique paint and the seemingly ubiquitous limited edition numbered headstock, this is not your ordinary 1098. This isn't even an ordinarly R model bike. Search for all the Bayliss edition models posted on RSBFS to do you homework, then make sure and check out this great looking 2009 model.

5 Noteworthy Ducati’s Available Right Now!

Since there's been so much push back on Ducati's this year, I figured rather than have separate entries for each of these they'd all share one big post together. Let's start with dessert first:

1995 Ducati 916 Corsa Factory Racebike For Sale

1995 Ducati 916/955 Corsa Factory Customer Racebike For Sale on eBay

from the seller's website:

As part of a larger collection of rare and high end Italian Motorcycles we have been asked to sell is a full-on Factory Ducati Race Bike. This 1995 Ducati 916/955 Corsa 916/ Racer Customer bike, vin# ZDM9165*004192*, 1 of 31, was built by Ducati for private use and sold here by Eraldo Ferracci in 1995. It was campaigned in California from 1995-1997 by it’s present owner. The bike won AFM Open Twins and California State Championship in the Open Twins Class in 1997 and is as raced condition today. The bike required a new fuel pump to start, but Hansen’s BMW of Medford, Oregon was able to locate the parts and be successful in bringing this very rare piece of Ducati race history back to mechanical life recently. A couple of interesting facts about the bike. There is no starter on the bike, it requires an external starting engine which is included with the bike. The other amazing fact is that it weighted 342 Pounds with a full tank of fuel as measured at Buttonwillow in 1996.

How about a Bayliss 998S with just 39 miles?

Or a Bostrom 998S with 6700 miles:

Ducati 998S Bayliss For Sale

Ducati 998S Bostrom for sale on eBay

from the seller:

This is a 2002 Ducati 998s Ben Bostrom limited edition super bike. It is built to commemorate Ben Bostrom's 998 and is signed by him on the gas tank with a clear coat on top. There were only 150 of these built. This is number 115.

Unlike the Troy Bayliss edition with 400 produced, the Ben Bostrom edition is much more rare and only seen in magazines or online. I've never seen one on the road or at exhibitions.

This bike is totally fresh with a new lithium battery, brand new tires and fluids. Belts are fresh and everything is stock except the exhaust which is a Marving Carbon. I have the original system as well. Some of the stock highlights are carbon fairings, Ohlins forks, Ohlins rear and Ohlins steering damper.

Continuing with the low mileage theme is the 2001 996 with 1100 miles:

2001 Ducati 996 For Sale

2001 Ducati 996 For Sale on eBay

from the seller:

I have for sale a beautiful, almost brand new Ducati 996 superbike with only 1082 miles! I just had the brake fluid flushed, oil change and the clutch fluid changed. This bike is in mint condition! It is very fast and handles better than any bike I've ever ridden. You will not be disappointed with this motorcycle! Marchesini wheels, Ohlins rear shock and Showa front shocks. All stock except a carbon fiber tank guard on the tank.

And finally, the original 916 with 1700 miles:

from the seller:

You are bidding on a 1996 Ducati 916 Super Bike with only 1700 Original Miles, I have owned this motorcycle since new and it has been in heated storage (my house) for its entire life

Good luck to buyers and sellers!

2002 Ducati 998S Bayliss: One Owner, 1500 Original Miles

Update: The owner has informed us this bike has sold. Congratulations to buyer and seller! -dc

Ducati 998S Bayliss For Sale

Our latest featured listing is from Scott in Maryland with his 2002 Ducati 998S Bayliss edition. The 998 debuted in 2002 and features the "Testastretta engine" which would go on to power the 999 series and was previously seen in the 996R. The S model got a horsepower bump over the standard issue as well as Ohlins suspension and carbon bits all over.

With such low mileage and living room storage time, this example looks to be in excellent shape as you can tell from the pictures (click each for hi-resolution).

from the seller:

I am ready to part with my 2002 Ducati 998S Bayliss. I am the original owner of this collectible beauty. Only 400 were made for the world to commemorate Troy Bayliss winning the World Superbike Championship in 2001. My bike has been ridden very sparingly. Everything about the bike is 100% original. It has all of 1500 miles on it. The Bayliss is a 998S edition with carbon fiber bits and Ohlins. Comes with special cover, stand, and plaque. This bike has been part of my collection for more than a decade. It has always been stored inside (garage and living room). Asking $17,500. Located in Maryland.

For those not familiar, the Bayliss edition was tribute to Troy Bayliss who won the World Superbike Championship in 2001 for Ducati. Here he is in action that year:

And I suspect that's exactly how you'd feel every time you find your favorite back road on this one. Good luck to buyers and seller!

Some People Have a Motorbike Named After Them: Ducati 998 Bayliss in Germany

{note: Please join me in welcoming Claudio to the team. He is our new European contributor and has a great selection of bikes for sale in the EU this week starting with this Bayliss edition 998. -dc}

Ducati was among the first motorbike makers to identify some of their models with the initials of a great rider of them. As an example we can recall the early MH= Mike Hailwood replicas. And so went on the tradition...Here is a rare (model Nr. 201/400) Ducati 998 S Bayliss special edition:

Mr. Troy can actually count one additional model with his name tag the modern 1098 R:

Along side the more rare Ben Bostrom replica pictured below:

The 998S Bayliss was a limited edition featuring common equipment with the S models such as Ohlins fornt fork. Unlike the 996 R which used the latest engine step (often then found on the new bike replacing the old version), carbon fairing etc. the Bayliss replica is closer to the standard 998 model apart form the color scheme which replicates one to one the bike used in WSBK races. As all the numbered Ducatis these models are sought after by collectors, hence don't expect a chap buy. The conditions of this sample seem very good as you can see for yourself:

Apart from the tiny LED turn lights the bike is in standard condition and it comes with a set of Termignoni (included in the special versions of Ducatis), a signed certificate plate and a rear stand.

With less than 10.000km this is a pretty new bike. Good luck with the bidding.
