September Month in Review [RC30, Dream 50, CB1, FZR600, Z1R Turbo, R65 LS, Walter Wolf, ZRX1200R, F4S, 888 SPO]

I’m a little behind here at RSBFS HQ but here are the final two weeks of review for September. You can check out the first and second week reviews as well. Take care guys,

dc

This 1993 Ducati 888 with 992 miles failed to sell the first time with a high bid of $7700, then was relisted a 2nd time with an opening bid of $8500 and no action. It’s back on eBay now with a buy-it-now of $10k. [Live Auction | Our Post]

Ducati 888 For Sale

We had 3 Feature Listings in September and two of them sold exclusively via our website:

This 2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200R caused some raised eyebrows over it’s actual rarity, but it followed a real ELR that was posted earlier in that week. Nonetheless, it went home with a new owner for just a tick over $4k. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

ZRX1200R For Sale

In typical LanceGamma fashion, this auction reached an amazing $21k in bids before being ended early. I’m not clear on how eBay could possibly continue to tolerate this but we’ll try to keep watching these for high bids before the listing gets nerfed. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

Lance Gamma Walter Wolf For Sale

This 1984 BMW R65 LS with under 1000 miles sold for a surprising $6700. Congratulations to buyer and seller! [Closed Auction | Our Post]

BMW R65LS For Sale

This 1978 Kawasaki Z1R Turbo saw active bidding up to $17.4k and failed to sell the second time around with a buy-it-now of $18.5k. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

ZR1 For Sale

Here we have a nice and clearn 1989 Yamaha FZR600 survivor that sold for just $3k! [Closed Auction | Our Post]

1989 FZR 600 For Sale

This 89 Honda CB-1 also represents a great bargain on a survivor with a sale price of $3100. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

1989 Honda CB1 For Sale

This 1997 Honda Dream 50 also sold with a winning bid of $6600. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

Honda Dream for sale

This Honda RC30 failed to meet reserve in August with bidding reaching $26.6k. Relisted last month it failed to sell again at $28k. Of course it goes without saying that these are the crown jewel of any collection, but how much higher could it realistically sell for? I think only examples with less than 1000 miles have sold for more. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

Honda RC30 For Sale

This modified 85 Yamaha RZ500 sold for $7800. Strong money but a good deal for both buyer and seller. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

First Year: 1989 Yamaha FZR600 For Sale

Clinton, Washington16,660 milesCurrently $2,065 (Reserve Not Met)

Here is a cool score for all you fans of survivors out there and all you Yamaha fans out there. The FZR600 was Yamaha’s break through into true supersport machinery in 1989, and these bikes were an immediate hit. The FZR600 was lightweight (for its time) and came with a 90hp Genesis engine wrapped in a steel Deltabox frame.

The bike up from grabs here is a bone stock example, which is definitely hard to come by in a 20-year old sport bike that was never intended to be collectible. The only issue is some scuffing on the engine case from a drive way tip over. It is a shame that this occurred, but it would ease the mind for someone who wants to ride this thing. Some photos show a solo seat, and some don’t. I am hopping that comes with the bike still.

From the seller:

ForSale. A 1989 YAMAHA FZR 600, This bike is totally stock and original. It’s in excellent condition for it’s age. Everything works great, the bike runs, shifts, stops and handles great. Comes with factory optional solo seat cover. It’s easy to switch back to a passenger seat. Tires are a few years old, just had a oil and coolant service. So many of these FZR’s have been modified, crashed and trashed. This one is 100% original right down to the exhaust. Cosmetically there is only minor scuffing on it’s engine cases and lower right faring ( see pictures ) from being tipped over in a drive way, the rest of the bike is fantastic. Workshop manual included.

If you wanted one of these in 1989 but couldn’t quite swing it, now is the chance to bring out that teenager inside by picking this FZR up. Obviously, a maintenance history of some sort would go a long way with the value of this bike, but miles are pretty low considering its age. Bidding is active, but the Reserve remains on. I can’t imagine it be too far off of the current price and would like to think that this could go for $3-$3.5k depending on how bad someone wants it. If you want it, then click here to jump over to the auction!

1992 Yamaha FZR600 Vance&Hines Edition #376

Location: New York

Miles: 22,695

Price: $3,400 with No Reserve

You definitely don’t see these every day. The Vance & Hines edition of the FZR600 wasn’t much different than the standard FZR of the time other than the V&H exhaust. However, the paint scheme was custom and a post-factory job. With only 636 of these specials produced, they don’t come about too often.

The bike up for grabs here looks to be in very good condition considering its age and mileage. I don’t see any damage to the fairings other than some small chipping near the seat on the solo tail. The auction does include a host of extras like Original V&H paperwork and care instruction for the bike, a signed Eddie Lawson Daytona200 poster and several other items.

From the seller:

UP FOR AUCTION IS A 1992 YAMAHA FZR 600 VANCE & HINES EDITION. IT IS #376 OF 636 LIMITED EDITION BIKES . I PURCHASED THIS SURVIVIOR A FEW YEARS BACK & HAS BEEN IN MY COLLECTION ON ABATTERYTENDER & UNDER A COVER.

IT HAS 22695 MILES ON IT, IT IS IN GREAT SHAPE FOR A 1992 MOTORCYCLE, I JUST REMOVED THE COVER, PUT THE CHOKE ON & SHE FIRED UP. IT HAS BEEN SITTING SO IT COULD USE A CARB CLEANING, & FRESH FLUIDS.

INCLUDED IN THE AUCTION & TRULLY HARD TO COME BY, ARE THE FACTORY LETTERS, FROM YAMAHA & VANCE & HINES, ALL THE INFO ON THE LIMITED EDITION MOTORCYCLE. ALSO A LG POSTER OF EDDIE LAWSON ON THE TRACK AT DAYTONA, A DAYTONA 200 RACE PROGRAM WITH A RACING PATCH, A VANCE & HINES PERIOD CORRECT PERFORMANCE CATALOG, A FULL YAMAHA SERVICE MANUAL, THE OWNERS MANUALS & PERIOD CORRECT RACING MAGAZINES, I WILL ALSO INCLUDE THE REAR STAND.

THIS TRULLY IS A PEICE OF RACING HISTORY , MOST OF THESE BIKES ARE LONG GONE. EVEN WITH THE HIGH MILAGE, IT WILL BE A NICE ADDITION TO SOMEONES COLLECTION, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL OF THE PAPER WORK & EXTRAS INCLUDED WITH THE AUCTION.

SHIPPING OF THE MOTORCYCLE AS WELL AS THE EXTRAS ARE AT THE WINNING BIDDERS EXPENSE.

Now some of you might not be super into the paint scheme, unless you are a huge Kareem Abdul-Jabbar fan. But if you are a huge Yamaha fan or collector, then this bike offers a chance to own a replica bike for a very reasonable cost. Miles are on the higher end, but the condition of the bike does not show it at all. You can check out the auction here and decide for yourself!

Weekend Mailbag! (916, 750SS, CB-1, FZR600, NSR250, RZ350)

Hey guys! Hope you’re all out enjoying the nice weather and remembering that these sweet bikes need to be ridden to be loved. What, no bike in the shed? Take a peek below at all the spots from our readers — from affordable survivors to rare exotics!

Have a good weekend,

dc

To get us kicked off, Dan sends us this very original 97 Ducati 916 with under 7k miles. I especially like these early ones with the older style fonts! Buy it now is just $6500 and it’s available in the Bay Area.

This 1990 Honda CB-1 is for sale in our classifieds area for just $2950. With just 2925 miles it should feel just as good as the one I first rode in 1991…

Jeremy sent a bunch of Ducati links from the Bay Area, but this 1990 DUCATI 750ss really stood out to me for just $3400.

Here’s a pretty complete looking 1991 Kawasaki ZX7 for $4k in the Chicago area. Thanks for the forward John!

This next one is a bit of a sentimental inclusion for me as I really enjoyed my FZR600 in college. Tom is parting with his for just $2500 and he has rebuilt the head and reworked the gearbox in addition to a slew of other upgrades. Email him for me details. Bike is in Rhode Island.

Adam knows we’re total suckers for the smokey 2 strokes around here and forwarded the following beauts available in California:

1996 Honda NSR250 – $7400

1985 RZ350 Kenny Roberts – $6800

May 1st Mailbag — A Little Late but Worth the Wait

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay this week but we got a ton of submissions, probably twice as many as usual. While I’ve passed on a few almost all made the cut. Thanks for your submissions and have a great rest of your week!

dc

Chris M shoots us his listing for a 1997 Moto Guzzi Daytona RS. Just 5400 miles and located in San Diego. Good luck with the sale!

Perhaps the deal of the day (even with the goofy signals), Chris forwards the first of several sweet finds in the Toronto area. Here’s a 1996 Kawasaki ZX-7RR for just $4500 CAD. Doug needs to a leave a comment on this one!

Chris S. forwarded us this great looking 1985 Ducati MHR Mille in San Francisco. $21500, miles not disclosed.

Dan spotted this freshly imported 1989 Honda VFR400 NC30 for sale in Toronto. 27k kilometers, $6000 CAD.

By now you know I’m a sucker for mass produced sportbikes of the past that have somehow survived. This one strikes a chord with me as my first bike in college was an FZR 600. This one spotted by Louie has only 70 miles and is located in the Winston-Salem area. Seller is asking just $3400. {flame suit on!}

Gregg spotted another sharp Aprilia Bol ‘d Or RSV1000R in Reno for $9350 with under 5k miles!

Chris spotted an interesting 1992 Yamaha 3TJ FZR400RR for sale in Toronto. After conferencing with Doug, it appears it does have OEM bodywork though looks painted. For $2499 CAD might be worth a look for such a trick little machine. For those in the U.S., check out our sponsor SpeedWerks, who have extensive FZR400 experience on track.

Craig spotted this Red Bull Rookies Cup KTM 125 GP Bike on the WERA classifieds. It’s a brand new bike, never ridden, and has spares. $24k.

Adam forwarded this rare Bimota SB6 in New Haven for $9999. Rare because it’s actually been ridden nearly 9k miles!

Tim forwards us another nearly new track bike, a 2008 Honda CBR125 track bike with just 2km’s. For just $4500, this looks like a fun track day machine for a smaller rider.

Clean, Low Mile ’96 Yamaha FZR600

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Mileage: 6,400

Price: Auction, $4,500 OBO

So we just featured a first year FZR1000 on RSBFS and now we have this ’96 FZR600. Not even close to a first year for the FZR600, and boy isn’t the paint something. And some of you might even say it shouldn’t be considered a rare sportbike. But I’m writing it up anyway. Cause I think it’s super clean and it only has 6400 miles on it. Argue if you will, but I think this bike rules.

Here’s some more pictures that will either inspire or repel you-

Not a lot from the seller-

1996 YAMAHA FZR600, 6400 original miles. Comes with custom Vance / Hines Exhaust pipe and new tires. Plastics are a rare red, white and blue color scheme. Mags are near perfect. Bike runs like a top! Collectors dream, drivers dream. Call Joe. $4500 OBO

So this looks like a super clean, low mile example of a 90’s FZR600. The only mod appears to be the Vance and Hines exhaust, and the rest looks to be in great shape. So you’re looking at a cool bike, on the bubble for the collector world, that I guarantee will turn heads on the paint alone. Seller is asking $4,500 OBO. Not too bad for this machine in my estimation.

There you have it. Feel free to blast away. But if you like 90’s sportbikes and have the means, go place your bid!

Be quick – 1992 Yamaha FZR600

Your chance to grab a special little bike but you will have some work to do. This is a 92 example which hasn’t been run for a while but as the seller points out the engine turns over. Could be a mechanics bargain. The Genesis frame made the bike look like a real racer and handle well. Unlike its bigger brother the 600 used a 4 valve head rather than the 5 valve head of the 1000cc bikes. By the way that is a dummy tank, the real one sits low behind the cylinder head between the frame rails to lower the centre of gravity.

The seller shares some details:

THIS IS A 1992 YAMAHA FZR 600 MOTORCYCLE.
NO TITLE-SORRY. PREVIOUS OWNER’S BROTHER LEFT IT IN HIS GARAGE 15 YEARS AGO AND NEVER CAME BACK FOR IT.
SHOULD BE ABLE TO RETITLE IT ONLINE THROUGH A TITLE COMPANY SINCE IT HASNT BEEN REGISTERED FOR LIKE 15 YEARS.
THE BIKE RAN AND RODE FINE PRIOR TO THAT BUT IT HAS BEEN SITTING UNTOUCHED INSIDE THE GARAGE FOR 15 YEARS.
BIKE IS COMPLETELY STOCK ORIGINAL FROM WHAT I CAN SEE EXCEPT IT HAS A VANCE AND HINES MUFFLER.
MOTOR MOVES. THROTTLE MOVES. FORK SEALS ARE LEAKING A BIT.
PLEASE SEE THE PICTURES, THIS BIKE IS IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE FROM BEING IN THE GARAGE ALL THESE YEARS . KEY IS IN THE IGNITION
GREAT PROJECT FIXER UPPER OR PARTS BIKE OR RACE IT.
ITS ALL THERE.
BEING SOLD AS-IS, HASN’T RUN IN 15 YEARS. RAN WHEN PUT AWAY. MOTOR MOVES.

The auction can be found here on eBay.

Not sure what this will fetch given the fact that the motor has not run for so long but certainly if you know what you are doing this looks to be a very clean bike.  Be quick not much of the auction left.

AS
