Fast Fizzer – 1987 Yamaha FZR1000

One of the “new classics” that is beginning to appreciate in value, the FZR-1000 can still hold it’s own. The FZR-1000 made over 145hp and was significantly lighter than the ZX-11s and GSXR-1100s of it’s era. Top speed was around 165mph which is still plenty fast, even today. Because the obnoxious color fads of the 1990s hadn’t started yet, these early Yamahas are adorned with subdued but classy color schemes and this particular example looks great in it’s classic red, white and blue. Just two years later, Cycle World would go on to call the FZR-1000 it’s “Bike of the Decade.”

Show quality, Original, Stock, un-molested example. LOOK at the pictures…no rust, no pitting, no scratches, excellent paint, graphics, seat, instruments etc., Look at the swing arm, brake caliper and footpeg bracket photos….clean as new. Exhaust is amazing, plastics- perfect.Tank clean etc. Just serviced -Cleaned, synced carbs rebuilt calipers with all new caliper kits, changed all fluids, filters, new master cylinder. No disappointments,- this bike definitely belongs in a showroom or a collection, just needs a good home where it can be well cared for. good luck bidding

As you can see, despite being almost 30 years old, this one is very clean and appears to be bone stock, other than the tires (obviously). The stock exhaust, turn signals, reflectors and even the chain guard are all there. The indicated 16,000 miles means well under 1000 miles a year, which is just enough exercise to keep her in good running condition.

1987 Yamaha FZR1000 with Just 4k Miles in New York

Here’s a largely stock and very low mileage FZR1000. This is a pre-EXUP model which puts the horsepower at 135, which in 1987 what a number to be respected. Also noteworthy at that time was the 5 valve head. The owner notes a radar detector of similar vintage has been added and it even wears the stock tires. I noted an aftermarket windscreen as well, but otherwise it looks like it could just use a thorough refresh and detail to be excellent.

One Owner 1988 Yamaha FZR750RU in Colorado

For all those tire kickers that show up in the comments of perfect but never ridden examples, here is a rare bike AND it has been ridden! Our latest Feature Listing is for this FZR750RU, Yamaha’s homologation special before the infamous OW01. We have seen a fair number of these this year and prices are definitely appreciating. This example has a few blems from a tip over but as you can see the overall condition looks better than very good. And at just $4500 you can feel good about putting the next 30k miles on this one!

1985 Yamaha FZ750 Genesis: One Owner, 14k Miles

This isn’t a museum piece but it is an honest survivor from the original owner. The revolutionary 5 valve per cylinder heads were cutting edge at the time and the technology was used in many future models like the FZR1000 and OW01. Having covered only 14k miles this example looks very complete and is reported as never dropped though has some patina as shown in the pictures. Current bid is just over $1500 reserve not met.

Up for sale is my 1985 FZ750 that I purchased new at M&M Cycle in Kalamazoo, MI during July of 1985. This is the first year of the 5-valve Genesis engine for Yamaha. These are rare and most were used for roadracing in the late 80’s. This bike has never been crashed and the engine has never been taken apart. It is stock with the exception of the following adds: K&N Dynojet Kit and a Vance & Hines SS2R header. Also included is a cover, Factory Yamaha rear seat cowl and two Metzeler tires that were replaced less than 500 miles ago.

Overall the bike is in extremely nice condition, however the following imperfections exist: there is some checking (lines) on the tank primarily in the blue stripe area but some in the lower silver area also, small scratch (1/4′) on the front edge of front fender and the tank has a dent near the filler cap (see pics).

This FZ runs well and had a battery replacement last year. It has a very mean, throaty sound due to the individual K&N filters on each carb. In my opinion it is one of the best sounding inline 4s you will find.
