Designed to evoke a bygone era of British road and race motorcycles like the Norton Manx, the Honda GB500 Tourist Trophy was yet another machine from Honda that was sadly introduced before the world was ready… Also, it was expensive. Available in the US between 1989 and 1990, the bike was powered by an overhead cam, 498cc single with four radial valves producing just 33hp, but the bike was less than 400lbs wet and, flat out, the package was capable of 108mph. In spite of the relatively basic, non-adjustable suspension, handling was nimble and sporty, and reviewers generally liked the bike.
Rarely up for sale is a classic 1989 Honda GB500 Tourist Trophy. This bike is known for its vintage café racer-style and reliable performance. If you’re looking at this ad, you likely already know that it’s a true collector’s item with a strong following stateside and abroad. It starts up every time and is a fun, light bike to run through the twisties.
The motorcycle has minor customizations to tastefully improve the look and feel of the bike: AGM battery, bar-end mirrors, YSS Z-series adjustable shocks, HyperPro progressive fork springs, Bridgestone Battlax BT46 tires, Jack Batson stainless steel custom exhaust, smog device blockoff – all can easily be restored to original if desired.
The bike will come with the original owner’s and Honda service manuals, tool kit, a few hundred dollars worth of never-installed extra miscellaneous OEM parts, an aftermarket carburetor jet kit and fork damping valve kit
Note: only for the full asking price, the sale will also include the removed original Honda parts which are near-impossible to find on the market:
exhaust, shocks, fork springs, bar-end weights, mirrors, smog device. Pictures of these items can be provided upon request. A negotiated sale may not include these items.
The condition of the bike is very good, especially for the age. It has been well-maintained with written records of service. The paint is the original black-green with gold pinstripes; there are minor blemishes consistent with the age of the bike and a couple dents on the gas tank. There is also some oxidation on the lefthand aluminum engine case and wheel spokes. The condition of bike is represented accurately in the pictures.
This GB500 has been carefully maintained and is ready for a new owner who appreciates its unique charm and history. Whether you’re a collector or just love the classic look, feel and reliability of a vintage Honda, this bike is a head-turner that always impresses and generates conversation and compliments.
The Honda GB500TT probably isn’t technically a “sportbike,” but it was designed to look like 60s machines that definitely were sportbikes, so I’ve decided it counts. Also, it’s just pretty cool in general, a light, simple, good-looking bike that offers the style of a vintage machine, with much more modern reliability. They seem to pop up for sale pretty regularly, considering how few were sold here, and most have been well kept. This one has 21,000 miles and some minor cosmetic imperfections, but the uprated suspension is a nice bonus. Prices have remained relatively flat for these, and the $6,500 asking price seems on the high side, but it does sound like he is open to reasonable offers.
