1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in Santa Barbara

Here’s a nice low miles Ducati 888 SPO for sale in California. The 888 is final evolution of the 851 Superbike and is the precursor to legendary Ducati 916.

quote from seller’s Craigslist Ad:

A very clean example of an early Superbike. Upgraded Renegade carbon exhaust cans, Goldline controls w/ CRG levers, white Marchesini wheels, clutch slave, Barnett clutch basket/ clutch plates, Speedymoto pressure plate. Only 9,400 miles. Always garaged and kept very clean. A beautiful bike to add to a your stable.

The 888 has a cult following and prices are on the rise. With a character all it’s own, this looks nice at $10.5k. Still not convinced? Check out this great 888 video (not the bike for sale) on YouTube:

1989 Yamaha FZR OW-01 For Sale in France

I know it’s not exactly in the neighborhood, but these just don’t come up for sale anywhere that often. And this one looks perfect, though it bloody well should be at $22k!

1989 Yamaha FZR OW01 For Sale

quote from seller’s website, classic-motorbikes.com:

This rare Yamaha 750 FZR OW 01, is a real collectors item. With only 4002 km and in exceptional original condition. First registered in France on the 15/06/1989 where it’s still registered and has had just two owners.

This French model bike also has the complete “Full Power” kit (145 hp) fitted. The as new racing exhaust is available with the bike as are the original tool kit and owner’s manual. Available in France.

I saw one of these for sale in person years ago in Portland at Bob Lamphere’s place. At the time I recall thinking the asking of nearly $12k was outrageous. Not so much now…

Welcome to Rare SportBikes For Sale! I will be posting new entries here rather than at the old site from now on. Please consider subscribing here now that the site has moved. Thanks for reading!

Gray Market Bikes For Sale is now Rare SportBikes For Sale

*** IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR READERS ***

I will not be posting any more new posts at this URL and will instead be posting at RareSportBikesForSale.com. This new website looks exactly the same as this site. RareSportBikesForSale.com will allow me to feature the same types of bikes that are listed here, but also motorcycles that are just plain hard to obtain due to their collector nature, rather than just the history of title and import status.

My first post is an uber-rare Yamaha FZR OW01 for sale in France.

I apologize for the inconvenience of readers having to redirect .rss feeds and email subscriptions, but I hope if you’ve enjoyed the content here so far, you’ll continue the ride on at the new address by renewing your subscriptions to point to the new address. Let me know if you need help, I’ll be happy to assist.

Thank you!

2004 Aprilia RS250 Converted Cup Bike on eBay

This eBay auction for a 2004 Aprilia RS250 Converted Cup Bike just sold for $7100 in Michigan. The owner notes this is a relisting due to a previous no-sale.

quote from eBay listing:

This is a street titled 2004 RS-250. It is a converted cup bike. Everything has been upgraded to exact street standards as they sell them in Europe. Harness, bodywork, lights, et. It has a clear Michigan title. You will not find many of these here in the USA. They are super nice light bikes that handle like razors. There is a bit of rash on the right side panel, (I bought the panel that way) and a small rash on the left swingarm as you can see in the picture. This is a low mileage bike, and it runs fantastic. I listed it not long ago for eight grand. It didn’t sell, and I’ve now priced it to move. The pictures don’t look half as nice as it does in person. Woodcraft Rearsets New DID 520 X-Ring Chain

Loving that shot of the rear tire!

1997 Suzuki RGV250 For Sale with Lucky Strike Bodywork

I love this paint scheme! Here’s the link to the Forum Post on usa2stroker.com and the eBay listing for this Suzuki RGV250:

1997 Suzuki RGV250 Lucky Strike For Sale1997 Suzuki RGV250 Lucky Strike Tank1997 Suzuki RGV250 For Sale

quote from eBay listing:

I bought this bike about 2 years ago and did a minor restoration. The previous owner had rebuilt the motor completely about 2500 miles before I got it. I have only put about 500 miles on the bike since I’ve owned it. That’s part of the reason that I am selling due to little time to ride and maintain. The motor pulls very strongly and brings the front wheel off the ground in 1st and 2nd gear if you wish it to. The bike is jetted for Northern California and though I am in SoCal, I’ve never rejetted as I’d rather be on the safe side.

Even though this bike does have a California title, I think the lofty starting price of $10200 is a bit higher than market considering the mileage and wear. The bodywork does look really good and it has some nice upgrades. If you’ve been waiting for a Lucky Strike RGV, maybe your wait is over.

2000 Aprilia RS250 For Sale: Titled and Low Miles!

Arguably the sexiest 250 2 stroke of it’s era, the Aprilia RS250 is at the top of my wish list at all times. This one looks like a good bet with less than 4k miles and a Washington title! Take a look at this 2000 Aprilia RS250 on Seattle Craigslist:

2000 Aprilia RS250 For Sale in Seattle2000 Aprilia RS250 For Sale Black2000 Aprilia RS250 For Sale with Arrow Carbon Fiber Pipes

quote from Craigslist ad:

2000 Aprilia RS250 street plated race bike, registered through April 2009. 3k miles runs and looks great, starts on first kick, as a matter of fact it starts so easily you can kick it over with your hand! Top speed of aprox 135mph, handles better than any other sport bike out there,2 stroke street bike weighs only 280lbs! Cruises on the freeway nicely. Has after market Arrow exhausts that increase power band. Some minor scuffs from transporting but excellent condition otherwise. Never been raced.
$8500

$8500 is a bit on the high side in my opinion, but if I could almost justify it, I’m sure someone else who actually has funds ready will snatch it up.

1992 GSXR-400RR For Sale: Looks Stock and Affordable

And it’s registered in California, which is always a nice bonus. Check out this 1992 GSXR-400RR For Sale on the Bay Area Craigslist for $4k obo:

1992 Suzuki GSXR-400RR For Sale1992 Suzuki GSXR-400RR For Sale Side View1992 Suzuki GSXR-400RR

quote from CL ad:

Pros:
Very Rare
new gold chain
new Metz 1
new tune up
new brakes pad
new cpu from UK
runs excellent

Cons:
Speedo out

$4k is pretty cheap for any decent gray market bike, let alone with a title. If mileage and history is good on this one, I wouldn’t think twice.

1991 Silver Suzuki GSXR400 For Sale in Oakland

The first GSXR400 For Sale on Gray Market Bikes For Sale! Naturally it’s out of the Bay Area.

1991 Silver Suzuki GSXR400 on Bay Area Craigslist for $3800:

1991 Suzuki GSXR400 For Sale1991 Suzuki GSXR400 For Sale

Quote from Bay Area CL ad:

Up for sale is my 1991 silver Suzuki GSXR400. This bike was never sold in America but was sold in Japan and the UK instead. Bought it from a friend who bought it from someone else who collected grey market bikes and licensed them legally in California. So that makes me the third owner of this California plated bike. Bike is in good runnning condition with all fairings intact. This is a real head turner and great performer in the backroads or on the freeway. Handles excellent and power delivery is smooth and fast. Never raced or performed any stunts on this bike. Was mainly my weekend sportbike. Title on bike is CLEAR with about 31xxxkmh (which equals about 19xxx miles) on the motor. Speedometer cable broke at about 16k and since then I’ve changed the oil 6-7 times at my time of ownership. Usually I change the oil every 3 months or if I think I’ve rode it about 2500 miles.

[…]

Now this is 17 year old bike that is still running strong with enough power and handling capabilities to lose just about any 600-1000cc bike in the twisties. Though far from perfect there are a few areas that need a little TLC. Personally I have never dropped this bike but the previous owner (who is a friend of mine) did rub the left side of the bike against a small wall at about 5mph in a parking lot while trying to save the bike from falling. This resulted in a small crack to the front left faring where the side view mirror goes and also scraped the clutch plate cover. Mirror was replaced but the clutch plate cover gasket was never replaced and so it now leaks a little bit of oil. The leak is not bad but can be fixed with a new gasket. Fairings and paint are in good shape but do have a few minor scratches on them. Recently the bike has started to leak a little bit of gas underneath the gas tank if it sits unused for a few weeks. It’s not a noticable leak but you can smell gas if you park it indoors. When I ride the bike for a few days the smell and leak dissapears so I’m thinking it may be a gasket or the fuel filter needs to be replaced underneath the tank.

[…]

While the mechanicals sound strong on this one, the bodywork sounds like it may need some sorting out. How hard is it to mend body work on a gray market bike? Leave a comment!
