Honda NSR250 MC18 For Sale

Check out this very low miles (2500!) Honda NSR250 for sale on San Francisco Craigslist for $4800:

Honda MC18 NSR250 For Sale Honda MC18 NSR250 For Sale with low miles Honda MC18 NSR250 For Sale Honda MC18 NSR250 For Sale 2 stroke

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

Up for sale is a Japanese spec MC18 NSR 250.

Chassis: MC18-111
Bike: NSR 250-3 2stroke
Color: black/silver
Mileage: 4,276km ~ 2,500 miles (ACTUAL)

Bike runs excellent and is a great track bike. Handles like a dream. This mc18 has been known as one of the best in the entire NSR lineup (better than mc21 and mc28). Bike is not registered and is being sold for off-road use purposes. Please see pics.

With no title, this great little bike will be attractive to collectors and track day enthusiasts. As a track day bike, do you pick something like this or a new Aprilia RS125? I sat on the latter this past weekend at the Seattle International Motorcycle Show, it’s amazing how beautiful it is in person…

An RVF400 and VFR400 For Sale in the Bay Area

San Fran Craigslist continues to be the leader amongst all listings featured on this blog. I’m going to have to start tagging entries especially for the lucky enthusiast who live in the area!

First up, the 1990 NC30 VFR 400R:

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

*Up for sale is a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) 1990 Honda VFR400R NC30.
*Bike has 24,626 km on the clock.
*Bike runs great, no leaks.
*Bike is not registered. Grey import for race use only in the US.
*Tires are Dunlop K510F 120/60R17 in the front and Dunop K510B 150/60R18 in the rear.
*There are some minor scratches and scuffs on the paint as you would expect coming from 17 year old bike but otherwise this bike is in pristine condition.

$3,900 obo

And next this Honda RVF400:

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

Honda RVF 400 $3000. Cali reg as a RVF400
This bike is very rare and fun to ride… I need it gone for a new toy I am only selling cheap for two reasons 1.) I need the space 2.) I took off the fairing because I was going to paint. so you have to re-install
good ~ Bike is fun to ride and rare (great for new rider)
bad need paint and wind screen is cracked

Naturally the VFR400 with original looking bodywork would be my pick. Too bad it doesn’t have registration. The RVF400 is probably the cooler bike mechanically, but restored plastics would be at the top of my list. But with a title and registration, and an asking of only $3k, it’d be a great rider while you tried to determine if it was going to be a track bike or light restoration for the street.

Check out the Wikipedia entry on the RVF400, which also details the differences with the VFR400.

The Honda VFR750R, frame designation ‘RC30’, was a fully faired racing motorcycle created for homologation purposes for the World Superbike championship by Honda Racing Corporation (HRC). It was first released to the Japanese market in 1987. American enthusiasts had to wait until 1990 to get their hands on an RC30. The final one hundred RC30 machines were made for England in 1990.

The title and registration, combined with the the obvious care and thoughtful upgrades, make this bike a standout. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one listed for sale in recent memory. What do you guys think of the $16k asking?

1998 Ducati Superbike 996RS: They Don’t Get Much More Rare Than This!

One of two bikes used for the 1998 season by Troy Bayliss in the British Superbike Series. This bike has been in storage since 2000. Check out this eBayMotors auction for the bike that would eventually land him a ride in the World SuperBike series.

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

Own a piece of history, Troy Bayliss # 32 GSE Racing 996RS. Bike has been in heated storage since 2000. We just got it out of storage and replaced the belts and serviced the bike to be ridden once again. Bike comes complete with all documentation including a letter of authenticity from Paolo Ciabatti Ducati Corse. Bike was purchased direct from GSE and imported into the USA. This Bayliss bike is as raced and is in perfect unmolested condition. This was the full JHP/GSE effort constructed for the 1998/1999 season with Troy as the pilot. Comes with roller started and all the paper work.

1998 #32 TROY BAYLISS DUCATI 996RS BRITISH SUPERBIKE FROM JOHN HACKET RACING TEAM

Collector race cars and bikes are not really an arena I’m well versed in, but one thing is for sure: It’s a very rare machine anyway, and it’s been ridden by Troy Bayliss. It’d look great parked under the Christmas tree I’m sure!

Beautiful and Original 1986 Suzuki GSX-R 750 For Sale

I’ve posted several original GSX-R‘s on this site in the past year, but this one is a very early model and looks pristine! Check out this eBayMotors listing for an 86 GSX-R 750 with only 12k miles:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

Here is a blast from the past! This 1 owner GSXR-750 has only 12,720 actual miles! This is an Excellent example of a classic sport bike. Very collectible! Not perfect but close. Runs and rides perfectly. Tires are great, transmission shifts fine! Nothing needed here. Sorry we do NOT have the stock exhaust, seats or blinkers.

The red and black is a really stunning combination and I can’t say the last time I saw an 86 this clean and original. And it’s not like these are going to become easier to find…

1989 Yamaha FZR 400 For Sale in Vegas

I continue to marvel at how seemingly available the FZR400 is in the U.S. I remember reading about it in motorcycle magazines and how it would’ve been the ideal first bike for me. But the FZR400 proved difficult to find and I ended up with the much more common FZR600, and while it was a blast, I still wonder about the 400 when these ad’s come up.

Check out this 89 FZR400 For Sale on eBayMotors:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

1989 Yamaha FZR-400 collector bike. Original motor, aluminum frame, fully operational, runs very well, exceptional handling. Avon tires. Up to 60 mpg on regular gas.

I used to commute to/from work on this motorcycle. Due to financial hardships, I am forced to sell this motorcycle. I am the third owner, purchased it with approx 9k miles on it in early 2006 in Richmond, VA. Currently has a CA title.

Damages you see are all repairable, a tie-down failed in the moving truck and the bike fell over/slid into the side of the truck. This bike has NEVER BEEN LAID DOWN on the road. Very well cared for, except for this unfortunate incident. Never raced. Needs a bath right now though.

The FZR400 has an aluminum frame compared to the steel frame of the FZR600, which is cheaper and heavier. Many FZR400’s were snapped up by club racers and never to be seen on the street again. But apparently there are more out there ready for street duty than I thought!

Update: This post is pretty outdated. Check out these FZR’s on eBay right now:

1989 Honda VFR400 NC30 in Alabama

I was surfing the Bay Area Riders Forum and spotted this NC30 For Sale in Alabama for $6k:

quote from the forum posting:

Well i damn sure dont want to sell it, but its on a 0% credit card that may go up to 20 what ever percent if the credit card companys can change it just because they feel like it, thanks congress. But it may sit in my living room for the rest of my life, that just depends on what i can get for it. This bike was redone from the ground up and it is really a new bike, almost every nut and bolt was replaced. The bike is very very nice to look at. Looking to get at least $6000.00 for it, not a dime less, hopefully that will be to much so i can tell my wife that i cant sell it.

Interesting for sale posting to say the least. But the bike looks really sharp and clean. He goes on to explain that it’s titled and tagged in Alabama.

1989 Suzuki Katana 750GSX: Oh the Memories!

When this one popped up on my eBay favorite searches, I just about spit my Stella out all over the monitor. My close friend and riding buddy Paul used to own a Katana 750 just like this one. I mean EXACTLY like this one: that champagne color, an 89, and completely stock. I remember when he bought it from this idiot who tried to sell it out from under him to a higher bidder after Paul had secured the bike with a deposit!

Take a trip down memory lane with me and take a look at this 1989 Suzuki Katana 750 GSX for sale on eBaymotors:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

HERE WE HAVE A NICE OLDER BIKE READY TO RIDE I BOUGHT IT FROM THE ORIGNAL OWNER IT HAS SOME SCRATCHES FROM HAVING BAGS ON IT I DONT HAVE THE BAGS THE BIKE HAS FRESH BRAKE PADS,FLUID FLUSH,CLUTCH CABLE AND OIL&FILTER CHANGE BIKE RUNS AND RIDES GREAT REMBER THIS IS NOT A NEW BIKE THE HAS A SPOT WERE IT LOOKS LIKE SOME ONE SPLIT SOME GAS AND THEIR IS A MINOR DISCOLOR THAT I THINK CAN BE COMPOUNDED OUT EVERTHING WORKS IF I DONT SELL IT I WILL KEEP IT AND RIDE NEXT SUMMER I HAVE FOUR BIKES

Don’t you just hate non-savvy users who insist on using all caps? Rant aside, this looks like a really solid buy at $2300 with such low miles and zero modifications. I asked Paul to highlight his experience with his bike:

[21:07] Tj Rubley: for the blog post and from a previous owner, give me the high and low points of the bike. Maybe a favorite ride?
[21:07] Paul: that is a rare find, all stock and in reasonable condition with low miles, still a lot of bike for $2300.
[21:10] Paul: High points: GSXR derived engine, lots of power and plenty of torque, sport-touring riding position for long-trip comfort, obviously an easy bike for novices balanced and smooth even if the rider isn’t 😉
[21:12] Paul: Low points: to call the styling dated would be an understatment… honestly I can’t think of much to fault if for, other than puting a 400cc non-O-ring chain on mine I really didn’t do anything but an occasional oil change,
[21:13] Paul: Greatest ride: Sonoma, hands down, still the greatest motorcycle trip of my life (we need to do better next summer!)
[21:13] Paul: Shit, I’m serious if that thing was closer to home I’d buy it

He went on to say he originally purchased his with about 23k miles for $2900 in 1995, and sold it about a year later for $2500 to another close friend of ours, TravelEd. Hopefully I can get Ed in here to give his .02 too!

Here’s a gallery of our trip to Sonoma years ago:
