1994 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale with 430 Miles

Update 1.13.2012: Back on eBay in the new year, this nearly new SPO has about a day left and is currently at $14200 reserve not met. It has gone a bit higher than $15k without sale. Links updated. -dc

Update 11.3.2012: Back on eBay with a little over 2 days remaining, bidding has reached $13.5k this time but still not met reserve. Will it find a winning bid this time? Links updated, -dc

Update 10.6.2012: This one has been relisted a time or two and the highest bid has reached $13.1k without reserve being met. Links updated. -dc

A 100% original Ducati 888 SPO with just 430 miles in Massachusetts. Bidding is almost up with about a day remaining and so far the reserve has not been hit at $12150. The bike has some minor nicks from storage but otherwise it looks clean enough to eat off of.

From the seller:

Here is your opportunity to own a piece of Ducati Legendary Racing History, a 1994 Ducati 888 Limited SPO. The bike has been in storage since 1994 with only 430 original miles. Yes, you read that right! Everything on this bike is original, every nut and bolt, bodywork, and fluids. Not sure if the bike even had it’s first service, but anyone interested in riding the bike will have to do a complete once over.

The condition of the bike is near mint, but it does have a few flaws from storage, There are a few paint chips and scratches, the windscreen has a light scratch on it, the rear carbon hugger has a small crack, and the tail section by the seat on the left side has a small crack, and some of the bolts show a little rusting (major ones are by the front rotors), but something that can be cleaned up. I did my best with the pictures to show the small flaws, email me if you want a better view of description of any of them.

1994 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale with 430 Miles

Even with a few blems, the market is responding with strong money for this one. I’ll be very curious to watch the close to see who decides it’s worth the extra for the collection. Good luck to buyer and seller!

1993 Ducati 888 SPO Available at DucPond Motorsports in Virginia

Ducati 888 SPO For Sale

Available now on eBay is this 4800 miles Ducati 888 SPO for $9800. It has some scratches on the lower fairing and a stress crack on the upper, but overall the bike looks to be in solid cosmetic condition. As for mechanical they note the bike is due for a belt service, tires, and a battery. It has also been fitted with Micron pipes which I’m sure sound amazing. If you are new to the 888 SPO, click through to the auction for an excerpt from noted Ducati expert Ian Falloon.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale on eBay

From DucPond Motorsports:

You are looking at a FINE example of a 1993 Ducati 888 SPO with only 4800 miles – that’s correct, only 4800 miles.

This 888 will need: tires (I would put on new ones anyway if I bought a new bike), a battery (one in there is old), and new belts. Nothing crazy, just general stuff any Ducati would need. Just want to be up front with this, and we can do EVERYTHING here at our dealership if you wish…please contact us to get a quote on a price for these items – they are NOT included in the price of the bike.

We have a clear title for the bike, and we’re ready to find it a new home. We have set a reasonable buy-it-now price, but will also accept offers.

Nice set of Micron pipes on this 888 make it sound INCREDIBLE….trust me!! Small stress crack in upper fairing – shown in the pictures.

We are proud to have DucPond Motorsports as a sponsor and wish them and potential buyers good luck!

September Month in Review [RC30, Dream 50, CB1, FZR600, Z1R Turbo, R65 LS, Walter Wolf, ZRX1200R, F4S, 888 SPO]

I’m a little behind here at RSBFS HQ but here are the final two weeks of review for September. You can check out the first and second week reviews as well. Take care guys,

This 1993 Ducati 888 with 992 miles failed to sell the first time with a high bid of $7700, then was relisted a 2nd time with an opening bid of $8500 and no action. It’s back on eBay now with a buy-it-now of $10k. [Live Auction | Our Post]

Ducati 888 For Sale

We had 3 Feature Listings in September and two of them sold exclusively via our website:

This 2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200R caused some raised eyebrows over it’s actual rarity, but it followed a real ELR that was posted earlier in that week. Nonetheless, it went home with a new owner for just a tick over $4k. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

ZRX1200R For Sale

In typical LanceGamma fashion, this auction reached an amazing $21k in bids before being ended early. I’m not clear on how eBay could possibly continue to tolerate this but we’ll try to keep watching these for high bids before the listing gets nerfed. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

Lance Gamma Walter Wolf For Sale

This 1984 BMW R65 LS with under 1000 miles sold for a surprising $6700. Congratulations to buyer and seller! [Closed Auction | Our Post]

BMW R65LS For Sale

This 1978 Kawasaki Z1R Turbo saw active bidding up to $17.4k and failed to sell the second time around with a buy-it-now of $18.5k. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

ZR1 For Sale

Here we have a nice and clearn 1989 Yamaha FZR600 survivor that sold for just $3k! [Closed Auction | Our Post]

1989 FZR 600 For Sale

This 89 Honda CB-1 also represents a great bargain on a survivor with a sale price of $3100. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

1989 Honda CB1 For Sale

This 1997 Honda Dream 50 also sold with a winning bid of $6600. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

Honda Dream for sale

This Honda RC30 failed to meet reserve in August with bidding reaching $26.6k. Relisted last month it failed to sell again at $28k. Of course it goes without saying that these are the crown jewel of any collection, but how much higher could it realistically sell for? I think only examples with less than 1000 miles have sold for more. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

Honda RC30 For Sale

This modified 85 Yamaha RZ500 sold for $7800. Strong money but a good deal for both buyer and seller. [Closed Auction | Our Post]

Italian Special- ’93 Ducati 888 SPO

Location: West Hampton, New Jersey

Mileage: 19,000

Price: Auction, with a reserve

I find most all sportbikes cool looking in their own way. I’ve made it no secret that even the 90’s super graphics on many a Japanese bike appeal to me. But for pure looks, Ducati is hard to beat. And in the world of sexy bikes, the 851/888 bikes are about as good as it gets. This SPO is simply stunning. Bike art in my book. A total living room piece.

However, this bike doesn’t just stop at looks. You like limited edition, homologated specials? Okay, here you go. Ducati brought this four valve liquid-cooled bike for AMA purposes. So you also got an Ohlins rear shock and awesome solo seat.

From the seller-

1993 Ducati 888 SPO

One of a kind – probably one of the nicest condition Ducati 888 out there…

I am the original owner, and this bike has been babied since I got it new in 1993.

Runs Great, Sounds Superb and looks red hot!   I’ve posted a short YouTube video of the bike, so please check it out …

Bike has/had …

  • New Timing Belts
  • New Barnett Clutch
  • New Front/Rear Tires
  • New battery just installed 4/2012
  • Custom Corbin Seat
  • Carbon Fiber Front/Rear Fenders
  • Carbon Finder – Instrument Panel
  • Tinted Windshield

 Bike will come with …

  • Rear Pit-Bull Stand; a must for sport bikes.
  • Original front/rear fenders
  • 2 sets of keys
  • All service paperwork and original manual

Bike is located in New Jersey. Local pickup preferred, but will ship and will run around $600-$700.

And the pics-

This bike certainly looks clean and the seller includes the original fenders for those who like all stock. These are collectible bikes, so stock parts are important. At 19,000 miles, the bike has been ridden. But if maintenance has been done that shouldn’t be a huge issue. The seller also includes a Pitbull stand, which is a nice addition.

These are beautiful bikes. Who knows where the reserve is, but I would guess a bike like this would likely approach the $10k mark. I  would also guess that these bikes will hold their value over time. So if you have the means, here’s a investment you can ride (well, occasionally). Anyway, if you’re interested, go check this auction out.

Well Sorted 1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale

There has been no shortage of good looking 851/888 variants recently and this is another solid looking example. It sounds like it has been loved and actually ridden. Though the description is brief, you can feel the pride in how it’s been sorted.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale with Termignoni Exhaust and Recent Service For Sale

quote from the seller:

This is one from of my personal collection. Original paint Fully serviced; belts, valves, thottle bodies sync. CO set, engine ice coolant, fuel filter, fresh brake & clutch fluid. New Spiegler black brake & clutch lines, new Brembo brake reservoirs and silicone hoses. New Pirelli Diablo Corsa III tires, new ZVM gold chain & Renthall sprockets, new clutch new carbon fiber front fender, rear huger, dash & inner cowl inserts, fresh NOS Ducati fasteners all over bike Rare Heli Bars & Throttlemeister for longer saddle time, Ohlins steering damper, New battery, battery tender lead & battery tender included, Carbon fiber slip-on exhaust with FBF chip, 101 RWHP on my Dyno Jet Dyno, I regretfully offer this fine example due to neck injury.

We’ve been closely watching 888’s since the inception of this blog and values have been steadily climbing every year. This one has been ridden, but 16k miles is far from excessive. As with most Italian sporting vehicles, cars or motorcycles, recent and complete service is a what to look for as a savvy buyer who intends to enjoy the purchase right away. If the service documentation checks out you’re already ahead at least a thousand. More importantly you’re ready to ride as this one doesn’t sound like it needs anything and has thoughtful improvements to make regular riding enjoyable.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO Superbike

1993 Ducati 888 SPO Superbike up for grabs-

Update 11.15.2011: Back on eBay. Links are now updated. -dc

Location: Lic, NY
Mileage: 11,742
Price: $7,888.88 -clever pricing

Ducaittriple8 is selling his lovely 888 over on eBay for a very clever 7,888.88. Okay, okay, I’ll stop with the Dr. Seuss stuff.

Up for auction is my 1993 Ducati 888 SPO. Only a very few of these bikes still exist today as they were only imported to the USA in 1993 (SPO) and 1994 (LTD). Here’s your opportunity to own a hand-built classic Ducati…

The bike has been meticulously maintained:

– Brand new AGM sealed battery- no more filling and lasts longer than the OE Yuasa battery
– All valves were checked: all 8 valves still in tolerance
– 2 Timing belts replaced (11,182 miles)
– 2 Injectors synchronized (11,182 miles)
– Oil and filter changed
– No leaks anywhere and the bike runs flawlessly

The bike has the following amenities:
– Corbin seat
– Brembo GP front master brake cylinder
– Kevlar brake lines in the front and rear
– Dark smoke windscreen
– 2 brand new Michelin Pilot Power tires
– Ferracci Carbon Fiber exhaust
– Ohlins rear adjustable shock
– Billet vented clutch cover
– Pro Italia upgraded clutch Master Slave Cylinder
– Carbon fiber front and rear fenders

Cosmetically, the bike has few paint chips that have been touch-up painted. There is one slight dime ding (which I pointed to in the pics, but really hard to detect).

I suspect these appeal to guys much like myself- Young, good looking, full of charisma with fond memories of WSB during the 90’s 🙂 Whatever your memories are there’s no denying that SPO’s are always worth a look. This one has a few ‘tasteful’ upgrades that doesn’t distract from it too much. Okay, so I have a pick with one of the ‘upgrades’ that I really have to scratch my bald head about.

The very bottom of the side fairings have been coated w/ Hercules truck bed epoxy black liner to be more resistant to damaging road debris.

Really? I have a hard time believing that any prospective 888 buyer would believe this is less damaging than a few rock chips on the lower chin. I know I would much rather have 100% original fairings with a few chips over (clap your hands) Hercules, Hercules, Hercules any day of the week. Just say’n….

So if you’re young, good looking, full of charisma and don’t mind cruising solo click here

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale in Wisconsin

When my wife peers over my shoulder while working on RSBFS and spots me lusting after one of these she usually states that it looks just like my bike, a 93 750SS. On the surface she’s attempting to be naive, but what she’s really trying to do is prevent me from adding another bike to our single car garage. While the 750SS shares the same headlight and turn signals, that’s where the similarities/shared parts end. My bike was the entry level Supersport model but the 888 SPO Superbike was the top offering in the U.S. for 1993.

Most of you are already aware of what makes the 888 a special mount but here are the cliff notes for those that don’t: Derived from the Pierre Terblanche styled 851, these bikes were a combination of 888 Strada and SP5 for the U.S. market to homologate for AMA racing. 4 valve heads, liquid cooling, Ohlins rear shock, solo seat, and more. Most of this technology would later find it’s way into the more stylish Massimo Tamburini designed 916.

1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale on eBay

Up for auction is my 1993 Ducati 888 Superbike SPO. The SPO was created to homologate the 888 for AMA Superbike competition. Here’s your opportunity to own a hand-built classic Ducati.

This motorcycle is very clean, well maintained, and cared for. Low miles. The condition of the bike is great. I have enjoyed riding it. Very minor paint chipping near edges (see pic) which seem to be common with these older bikes, but overall, the bike is in fantastic shape. Only problem I had was the overflow coolant tank leaking which was replaced.

– Full Sil Moto spaghetti exhaust system with Carbon Fiber cannisters.

– Eprom fuel chip mapped by Bruce Meyers @BCM Ducati.

– Carbon fiber tank guard.

– BONUS…I had Doug Polen sign the tail section and then had it clear coated.

The seller notes that this example is sorted with a “spaghetti” exhaust system and matching custom chip. The spaghetti exhausts, which are a complicated twisting mess of header pipes that flow beautifully, which are very rare now and very desirable. The last one I saw for sale was for a Supersport model and it was nearly $2k! Topping it off with a signed tail by Doug Polen makes this a real enthusiast’s treat.

There are a few chips noted and seen on the nose, but with under 6k miles this example should look fantastic as described. Being off season I’ll be curious to see where this auction ends — mostly because it would look great sitting where the 750SS now takes up space in the garage and I’d like to know what kind of savings are required to make it possible!

Collection Liquidation: 1993 Ducati 888 SPO For Sale!

Location: Boyne City, Michigan
Mileage: 67 (sixty seven)
Price: Currently $11,075 with reserve in place

Up for grabs here we have yet another bike from the collection that is currently being sold. You might recognize some other bikes from the collection such as this Bimota DB2 currently for sale and the Ducati 851 SP3 that sold on eBay last week.

The 888SPO has the same size engine as the 851 SP3, but was rated at slightly less power coming in at 104hp. The “SPO” moniker was specific to the US market 888, which was a combination of the high performance SP5 and Strada European models, though the SPO was more closely related to the Strada.

More from the seller:

Up for auction is a 1993 Ducati 888 Superbike SP0. This is a very clean motorcycle that I am selling for my Dad who is selling his collection. This bike only has 67 Miles on the odometer. It has been well maintained and cared for in heated storage.

The condition of the bike is fantastic. The paint on the front nose has been chainged to suit the original owners tastes. It has white instead of red on the nose. It also has the upgraded Termignoni exhaust.

Please take a look at the large pictures to get a better idea of condition and email me if you have any questions.

** Visit this link to see higher resolution larger pictures **

Like the rest of this collection, this bike appears to be in exceptional condition. The only thing I can see that wouldn’t allow this bike to fetch top-dollar would be the repainted front from red to white, although the paint work does look good and flows nicely with the bike. Did I forget to mention the bike only has 67 miles? Yep, that’s it. There is a reserve on the auction still with bidding currently at $11,075. Check out the auction for yet another classic Ducati here!
