Little Teaser: 1989 Yamaha TZR 250

In the world of quarter liter gray market smokers, the Yamaha TZR is seen less often than the Honda NSR or Suzuki RG/RGV lineup. While not as rare as the Kawasaki KR models, TZRs come up for sale less frequently. Personal taste will dictate how desirable these models are versus the other “Big Four” smokers, but it is certain that Yamaha has a long bloodline when it comes to building race-bred two strokes. This TZR looks reasonably clean with most of the pieces intact. The seller believes this example to be stock, however the cut down mudguard and lack of turn indicators might warrant further investigation. The best part of this one is the price; it is not free, but it is priced below most of the imported 250s we normally see.

1989 Yamaha TZR250 3MA for sale on eBay

TZR_250_2

From the seller:
OK up for Auction is my 1989 Yamaha TZR 250 3MA I have owned this bike for a little over 5 years and have only riden it 4-5 times ( I am 6’4 225lbs and the bike is really to small for me to ride but I love the way it looks and sounds)

The frame is nice, clean and straight as are the wheels and rotors, no evidence of crash damage on this bike. The bike is not museum quality but very nice. I Believe the bike to be Stock ( it is the way I received it and appears to be Stock except for braided steel brake line ). I put the bike in my living room 4 years ago and that is where it has stayed till this week. I filled it with gas / oil and it started right up.

There is a small chip in the paint in the tank but no dents I also have a extra set of plastics that the guy gave me when I bought the bike they don’t have stickers on them but seem to be in good condition no crack or road rash ( these are included in the auction but not pictured).

now for the bad news I do not have a title for the bike, I received a bill of sale when I bought it ( but I was able to go to the DMV and get a plate since it is over 20 years old .)

  • Nice bike. Someone should buy this and swap in an RZ500 V4 2 stroke.

  • The best part about TZRs is you can rebuild the motors with TZ engine parts. Makes it a lot easier than rebuilding an NSR or whatever..

And blah for swapping in that pig heavy and low powered RZ500. My TZ250 racebike put out more to the tire than that motor.

  • you can’t swap TZ parts to the 3ma it’s a unique motor different from the reverse cylinder tz

  • My 96 TZR250 with the Vtwin happily accepted single ring pistons from a Vtwin TZ. I assumed it would be similar for the paralell twins as well.
