Built between 1983 and 1987, before being superseded by the v-twin engined RGV250, Suzuki’s RG250Γ was powered by a 247cc parallel-twin engine producing the class-mandated “45hp” and backed by a six-speed gearbox. That may not sound like much, but the available power is plenty to motivate the 286lb dry machine. The naturally peaky two-stroke powerband was fattened up with Suzuki’s “Automatic Exhaust Control” powervalve system that helped make the bike more tractable in daily use, while triple-disc “Deca-Piston” brakes helped the bike stop quickly for a tight corner or an errant pedestrian. It may not have the storied history of other racing liveries, but I think this Walter Wolf Replica color and graphics scheme is one of the coolest and most flattering for the early Gammas and their relatively slab-sided designs. Wolf was a Canadian oil baron who dabbled in Formula 1 and touring car racing in the 70s and 80s and, although he never actually sponsored bikes to my knowledge, who can complain when the results look this good?
Update: one of our readers reached out with some more detailed information about Walter Wolf’s involvement in motorsports and his relationship with Suzuki:

1986 Suzuki RG250 Walter Wolf 2 strokes water cooled recently imported JDM in great condition for its age. Super clean all original runs and shift like it should. Inside the gas tank look super clean like brand new. Recent carburetor gaskets, jets (nos parts), transmission oil (Mobile 1 synthetic), battery, and rear tire replacement (Bridgestone). 2 cracks in the fairing please see pictures. Areas that need attention: Front tire replacement and front forks seals (nos seals and dust seals will be provided). Clear and clean Texas title in my name and in hand.
As is mentioned by the seller, this Suzuki RG250Γ Walter Wolf Replica is a recent arrival to the United States. In recent years, many cool, previously unobtainable two-stroke sportbikes have made their way to the US, as they now meet 25-year importation restrictions. Quality and condition can be all over the place for folks buying sight-unseen, so it’s nice when someone else has taken the risk: keep in mind that Japan is an island nation, so pretty much everywhere is relatively close to the loving caress of corrosive ocean air. This one looks pretty nice, although it’s far from perfect, with a bit of corrosion and a cracked belly pan. And, at $13,500, it’s definitely not cheap, although these certainly aren’t likely to go down in price…

Groan. I had the chance to pick up a couple of these for very cheap 25 years ago. Missed opportunity.
