If your idea of a sportbike describes a tool for attacking canyons and gokart tracks, with a side of urban commuting and a dollop of hooligan attitude, this KTM Duke II 640 could be your very affordable new steed. From an era when KTM was better known for making off-road machines, the Duke II was naturally based around an off-road powerplant: a liquid-cooled, four-valve, SOHC single displacing 624cc and equipped with a balance shaft that let it rev out a bit while producing a claimed 55hp, backed by a five-speed box. The rest of the featherweight 320lb bike was high-spec sportbikefare: fully-adjustable WP suspension, cast BBS wheels, and Brembo brakes were mounted at both ends, all of which made the Duke II a pricey bit of equipment when new.

There are a lot of custom touches on this KTM Duke II 640, which naturally cuts both ways. Fortunately, much of it can be reversed if you don’t like it, and the really expensive bits like the exhaust should probably appeal to just about everyone. It’s hard to tell from the somewhat low-resolution images just what you’re getting here, but the $4,500 asking price seems like a pretty good bargain, considering the low miles, rarity, and cool factor involved. If I had $4,500 burning a hole in my pocket, I’d feel like this bike would be worth further investigation.
