5.11.2014: Previously bid to $14,256 with no sale last month, this RZ500 is back on eBay with an opening bid of $16,500 and appears to be no reserve. Good luck to buyers and seller. Links updated, -dc
Rather, it’s really in the house as seen in the photographs. More importantly it’s another very nice RZ500 for sale in California. This one has seen even fewer miles than the one we posted yesterday with just 2500 miles covered since new! Just two owners and a convincing seller description. The buy-it-now price on this stated museum worthy example is $18,500 and opening bid is $7000 reserve not met. A great month for California RZ500 buyers and collectors for sure!

1985 Yamaha RZ500 for sale on eBay
from the seller:
This Yamaha RZ500 is the Australian model with only 4,000km on it. This is not the Canadian model.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a cleaner one that was not in the crate.
This is bike has had two owners. The second owner (a Yamaha master mechanic) bought this from the original owner 25 years ago with under 300km on it. The second ownder put 3700km on it in 25 years.
He noticed two years ago that the crank seal was leaking, as they all do. While him and his buddy (who was a former Honda race bike mechanic) the motor apart to fix it as well the crank shaft end bearing, they decided to put new Yamaha factory pistons in it. Please look at the pictures of the original pistons, as they will be included and didn’t need to changed (but the owner was very particular about this bike).
This bike was run once or twice a year for the past 25 years he owned it. The bike runs great and the gas was drained after each ride. The second owner stored the bike in heating controlled room for the 25 years he owned it.
The second owner changed the original tires 15 years ago. The bike will include the original Yokohama tires as they have no dry rot and are not worn out. Pictures of original tires included.
This bike is California plated and has a custom RZ500 plate.
The bike also comes with perfect original owners manual as well as the original tool kit.
The bike has never fallen over, been dropped or washed with water it’s entire life. The bike has no cracks in the stock body work.
All bolts and fasteners look like new.
The bike does have 2 extremely small scratches on the front fender. One is 1/2″ long and the other is 1/4″ long. There’s one tiny nic in the blue stripe on the left mid fairing the size of a pencil lead. There’s 2 small scratches on the right hand side of the gas tank about the size of 2 1/2 pencil leads. Take a look at the pictures.
This bike is NOT a restored bike, this is all ORIGINAL. There are no stories or issues with this bike.
I cannot stress enough that you will not find a better bike.
I do not have to sell this bike, so low ball offers are unwanted and unappreciated.
the only cleaner bike you could find would either be in a crate or in a museum, where this one should be.
I have a nicer one, IF SOMEONE REALLY WANT”S TO STEP UP !!!
Nice bike but one thing I get sick to death of reading in these adverts is “I don`t really need to sell the bike”
If you don`t need to sell it, then don`t sell it – simple. But stop trying to play silly mind games.
Hi Marc.
How nice and how much ?
Dead right! Bit rich on the price too.
I like the RZ big and little brother picture.
I’m the owner of this bike. I don’t need to sell this bike; I’m choosing to sell it. I think there’s a big difference there. I have too many bikes so I figured why not sell this one? What I meant by not needing to sell it, is that I won’t accept low ball offers when I’m choosing to sell it. Personally, I’m sick to death of constantly reading negative comments when people don’t even know what the hell they’re talking about.
Hi Jay.Nice bike.I understand that this site is not a ‘sale forum’,but I have a question regarding the RZ.Does it still have the Australian compliance plate attatched to it,and if not,do you still have it? Thank You.
Jay, sorry didn`t mean to upset you though obviously struck a nerve. I wasn`t being negative, in fact I said nice bike. I just don`t understand the thought process in having to state that ” I don`t have to sell the bike.” Its all too common and its almost like most adverts close out their narrative with this comment. If you don`t want lowball offers say “I dont want lowball offers” And really it is a very nice bike.
Hey Bob. No harm, no foul.
Hey Tank Slapper, if you’re talking about the VIN plate up by the neck, that’s still there. I did put a picture of that on ebay this morning. I actually still have the original blue license plate for the bike and it also comes with the California white license plate that says 84 RZ 500. I’ve been into bikes for years now and this is definitely an exceptionally nice, clean, original bike.

Thanks Jay.I thought it may have been my RZ500N that I bought new on 4th of August 1986.The engine and VIN were 53G-004778.I wonder where it is now.Maybe someone from Australia might see this post and have my old bike.It was a real tankslapper, with the original Yokahamas.
…..OH,just checked the EBAY site.I see you have removed the “buy it now”price.Good luck with the auction.
Hi Jay,
If you don’t need to sell a beautiful bike like this don’t. Bikes do t take up much room and a beautiful bike like this will only appreciate in value. Your choice and I know you are “choosing” to sell it but if I owned this bike and truely didn’t need to sell I wouldn’t. If however I needed the cash, I would also put the bike for sale
So the 3rd owner is selling the bike? So it is a 3 owner bike yeah?
So who is gonna buy one of these?

I agree with Bob. The “negative posts” mentioned are people cleaning up the bullshit and the far too often the lies in some of these ads. Be truthful in the intent in the beginning to save yourself the annoyances.
I don’t blame the seller one bit for mentioning he does not need to sell the bike. I think we all know what his intentions were regarding the statement. The market place is always full of low ballers trying to waste your time so good for you for saving yourself the b.s. emails!
Nobody NEEDS to buy a motorcycle that appears on a site such as this one.But more often than not, people will need to sell prized material goods for reasons they usually never truely disclose.I agree with you,JC,regarding the sellers intentions when making such a statement, but if you don’t want low ball offers, the last place you would tender a collectable motorcycle is Ebay.I think Ebay has it’s place in this world for a certain social demographic, but I don’t think motorcycle enthusiasts who trade rare and collectable bikes should be interacting with low ball Ebay timewasters. The seller had a buy it now price which, unfortunately,he has now removed,so a week wil be wasted with the little games from the low ball bottom feeders. The buy it now was $18,500,from memory, which seems about right.
I have owned 4 RZ500 and many more RZ350 since they were produced. While I like the RZ500 it is heavy and gets hot riding it. Difficult to work on, too many fasteners. I would rather ride and own a RZ350, or better yet a RG500/400. I cant believe any one would pay those prices for this bike, even though its extra nice. The most I have ever paid is $4500, those days are over!
