How about this hot AF Italian smoker for your Thirsty Thursday viewing pleasure?

I’m gonna come clean on this one . . . When I first saw it I was 110% stoked and thought it might be the Holy Grail survivor of RS250’s, but then I watched this at :28 seconds in.

I’m guessing that’s not going to buff out! Looks like someone had a rough day at the track and threw it down the road. I hope the rider was okay.

But, the show must go on and like we always say “Smoke’em if ya Got’em!”

Giallo Auge – 2008 Ducati 1098

Not as popular as red or black superbikes, Ducati’s yellow looks great with black, grey, or carbon accessories, and is a dead ringer for Lamborghini’s – sunbeam yellow –.  Today’s 1098 has more miles than usual, recent valve clearance inspection, and just a few aftermarket upgrades.

2008 Ducati 1098 for sale on eBay

Outwardly, the 1098 looks like more of an evolution of the 998, with its lower side-by-side headlights and individual underseat mufflers.  Even deep down, the EVO 1098 engine made long strides from the 999, with the revised testastretta heads came extended valve service intervals, a big improvement in the cooling system, and beaucoup power at 160hp.  Showa dampers were on the non-S, along with the WSBK-derived single sided swingarm.  Brembo monobloc calipers were a first for the 1098, and though there is a factory data analyzing dash, the 1098 pre-dates the multiple electronic nannies that were just over the horizon.

With the tell-tale puddle on the driveway, this 1098 might have been in the back of the garage for a bit before washing.  Seems like this might be the third owner, and had maintenance earlier on.  Either way it is a nice piece of kit, as they say, well equipped from the factory, and upgraded with the Termignoni exhaust.  The lowers could be re-painted and/or wrapped with not much trouble.  The smaller front sprocket isn’t a bad compromise for the street.  Notes from the eBay auction:

The bike is in good mechanical shape and does not have any leaks or smoking. The bike fires up first try every time, and has had some recent bigger maintenance including belt tensioning and valves checked. Additionally, it’s modded perfectly with a full Termi exhaust, the corresponding Race ECU, and a 14t front sprocket so the gearing isn’t insanely long.

The bike is a beautiful piece of Italian engineering and a huge value compared to today’s electronic superbikes. However, the exterior condition on this bike is not perfect, this would be a great canyon carver or track bike. The front fairing has a chip above the right headlight which has been touched up. The front fender has some rock chips. The middle pieces of the fairing on both sides show some wear which has been touched up. The lower piece of the fairing on the right side has some scratches which have been touched up. The good news is, it still looks amazing from a few feet away and there is no concern about dropping it or scratching it up using it!

This bike is 100% turn key ready. I would not hesitate to ride it 1000 miles tomorrow if I wanted to.

Modifications:

  • Full 70mm Termignoni Exhaust

  • Ducati/Termignoni Race ECU

  • 14t Front Sprocket

  • Dark Smoke Double Bubble Windscreen

  • 6k LED Headlight Bulbs

Maintenance:

  • Previous Owner: Ducati Certified Tech

  • Previous Owner: Enthusiast

  • April 2021 – 13,000 Miles

      • Belts Tensioned

      • Checked Valves (In Spec)

      • Oil and Filter

      • Front Fork Seals

      • New Rear Tire

  • September 2021 – 13,300 Miles
      • New Front Tire

Partly because WSBK was changing their formulas lickety-split, the 1098 was soon replaced by the 1198, even less suited to mere mortal road riding.  Rather than a limited edition showpiece, a 1098 with a few memories might be a better choice for a more regular rider.  The ask for this one might put it into a garage without a matching Gallardo.

1996 MZ Skorpion 660 For Sale in Philly!

1996 MZ Scorpion 660 on the Cheap, Cheap!

Location: Downingtown, PA
Make: MZ
Model: Skorpion 660
Mileage: 7296
Price: $2,700

From the seller:
Very rare model with low miles. Tuned up at the Service Pavilion in May.The only reason I am selling is I am building a flattracker and wife says I have to sell some stuff.Bike runs fantastic, do some research on it to get the history of this little beauty. These rarely come up for sale and the full faired version is even rarer.

He’s not lying! These are pretty darned rare and even more so in the full fairing version. It may just be me being crusty and cheap, but $2,700 for any motorcycle in today’s market is a steal! Throw on the limited number of these floating around and you have yourself a Mr T starter kit rare sport bike collection #BOOM

If the price didn’t catch your eye perhaps the super low mileage on this one helped make it more appealing? Even though the pics are a little dark, this one looks to be in really nice condition, clean and ready to get some groceries, commute to school, or simply putz around the neighborhood.

I believe these crank out around 50hp, but more than make up for the lack of power with eye popping color and conversation at your local bike night.
Stopping all of that ferocious power is a single disc up front and another single disc in the rear. These deliver the 50 ponies to the rear wheel via a 5 speed transmission and put it to the ground with standard 17″ hoops at both the front and rear.

I know it’s not a 2 million horsepower Italian screamer, but it’s a kewl bike and one that you definitely won’t pass every weekend.

Who wants to help a guy go flat track racing and pick up a cool motorcycle in the process?

Cheers!

Since none of you believed that, I will have you know I did rock a Joe Rocket suit and Shoei lid back in the day 🙂

You might be asking “Why did dipshit doug use a stock photo for this listing?” I have your answer- because old man Doug’s’ World Wide Web skills let him down on this one. I couldn’t grab the auction site images and place them in a neat, story like fashion for your viewing pleasure

However, since the RC51 and Nicky are forever synonymous- I have have a nice picture of Nicky for you to look at while viewing my write-up

There you have it- the inexperienced and throttle junkies need not apply! Oh no, no, no . . . this one has been reserved for a select few. Is this one reserved for you? Are you up for the 135 ponies this DooKattee Killer serves up? Can you still fit into your old Nicky/Joe Rocket 1 piece suit? That last question rules me out because I’m sure I’d pop the zipper and look like a potato on tooth pics! Lord help me.

Again, my apologies for lacking the proper picture skill set and for rambling on about Nicky, Joe, zippers and tooth pics, but the boss has a word count rule or minimum something or other we have to follow- Pfffft!

You’ll need to click the hot link (above) in order flush your mind of the image of me with a busted zipper. Trust me, it’s well worth a look. It’s a nice RC with a really nice Remus exhaust system installed.

Don’t delay because this BIN ends in 1 day and a few hours.

Go on now and Git!

Supervivor – 2nd Owner 1985 Yamaha FZ750

Yamaha introduced their 5-valve engine for 1985, turning a sportbike corner with 103 claimed hp.  Super clean though un-restored, this FZ750 looks ready to ride in an outstanding number of high-res photos.

1985 Yamaha FZ750 for sale on eBay

Engineers from Iwata found an ideal solution to increasing intake flow and reducing valve mass and friction losses.  Smaller valves made the 10,500 rpm feasible, with accessories built behind the crankshaft to keep the engine as narrow as any four.  The head was angled forward at 45 degrees, making room for a set of 34mm Mikuni downdrafts under the tank.  Weight distribution was just about optimal and a 16-inch front wheel was employed to sharpen the handling.  Air-adjustable forks were an -80’s regular, and carried vented front disks.  A full fairing would’ve been racier, but the supersport garb allowed the engine easier access to cooling air.

Just two owners is unusual for a 36 year-old machine, and 8,868 miles is rather low.  But time marches on, and finishes show some patina in the close-ups.  Still it appears stock, complete and without an major mishaps.  Even the black chrome four-into two exhaust has somehow made it through.  Notes from the eBay auction:

The cosmetic condition of this machine is just as it looks in the photos. Every finish on the machine is original. No part of the bike has been re-painted or re-finished. There are a few imperfections here and there, mostly from the first owner’s long-term storage over the years, but it is a legitimate 8,800 original mile machine that runs like it’s brand new. It is not a trailer queen, and it’s not cosmetically perfect, but it’s a bike that’s perfect for taking out just about any time the weather allows and run it hard. The running condition of the machine is flawless, starting immediately.

This Yamaha has had two owners during its life, the first owner and me. This bike has been part of my collection for a while and is now ridden on a regular basis. It runs and rides with absolutely no issues.

Everything on this motorcycle is original, including the exhaust system, which was usually removed by now. The seat is also in original condition and is beautiful.

The 750 runs and rides the way you expect a machine with this type of mileage to run. All of the mechanical components have been checked over to ensure they work properly including the clutch and brakes. The carbs were completely gone through this season and function perfectly, and there is a new battery installed. The Bridgestone Battlax tires currently installed have comparatively few miles on them, and have plenty of service life left, but they are not new, so if you plan on riding this machine hard, you might want to replace them.  There is absolutely nothing you will have to do to this motorcycle to ride and enjoy it this season.

The FZ750 might not’ve been an unbridled success, but was up against GSXR competition and certainly proved the Genesis five valve concept.  As ever, Yamaha had the engineering chops but the style department stayed a little conservative.  Air forks were more sensitive to changes than many expected, though the forward riding position at least kept the rider in the loop.  Just a day into the auction, bidding is quite active and we’ll check back to see when someone clears the reserve.

Push Play – 1987 Yamaha YSR50 with 708 Miles !

Update – Sold to a reader a few hours after posting on RSBFS, but still fun to look at…

Never going to be the only bike in the garage, but the YSR50 might just win the smiles-per-cc sweepstakes.  Today’s has somehow maintained all its DOT required equipment over the years, which seems to have protected the scale fairings like a force field.

1987 Yamaha YSR50 for sale on eBay

Overdone in a tongue-in-cheek way, the YSR50 had a disk brake up front and five-speed trans to go with its regulated 49 cc’s and 7 hp.  With its perimeter frame, full fairing and faux underseat exhaust ports, it’s as close to a YZR500 as some of us might ever get.

This YSR is a little bit of perfection, with not even the usual roll-around scuffs.  Seeming oversized turn signals and mirrors have warded off evil spirits, and a nice repaint doesn’t hurt either.  Not sure about the seller’s title reasoning, but at this age and engine size a bill of sale would likely suffice.  Comments from the eBay auction:

The YSR50 has been displayed in my collection for the last 12 years. I have decided to sell it.
Bike is sold with a signed title but NOT IN MY NAME. Title is still in original owners name and I wanted it to stay that way. ONE OWNER. 33 Years
The reason the bike has ONLY 708 miles I believe is because the crank seal was bad on the stator side.

I brought to to my shop and took the entire bike back apart for cleaning.

The top end looked great (Standard Bore). I resealed it back up with a new top end gasket set. I removed both side covers and put new crank seals and clutch plates in.

While apart I replaced the reeds, carb kit, fork seals and gaskets

Still has the hard to find original – Nut Pad and Tool Kit (looks new)
Starts with a couple kicks.  Handle bars are straight

Seat , back and nut pad looks great

Rims / Tires look very good but are old with cracks. Could be originals

Plastics look great except one spot the size of a quarter where the upper fairing meets the lower fairing. where one of the screws hold it together(hard to see because large white washer covers it up)

Exhaust looks great

Brakes rear work great – front is full of fluid but can’t get it to bleed

Tank is bright and shiny inside.

New air filter.  New Battery

New Windscreen from New Zealand – have old one but has a small crack

Calamari Rear fender.  Forks are perfect

Warning labels look good.  Decals look great
No leaks  – Gas tank and carb is empty and cleaned.

Have bike currently in my office and don’t want fumes.

All silver, and white parts repainted and clear coated.

A little late to get it under the tree unless you’re down near Dallas, but this looks to be a super example at just* a supersport  buy-in.  And judging from the group picture, might be the sharpest two-stroke in the collection.

Schlittenglocken – 1984 Suzuki GSX750E in Germany

The 1984 Suzuki catalog had all kinds of wildness – the S3 Katana, RG500, XN85 Turbo, and could even be said to include the Bimota SB4S.  The all-purpose GSX750E benefited from all that genetic material but dressed down to a UJM.  This almost perfect example begs for a friend’s DHL account number, to get it here in time to hang some sleighbells.

1984 Suzuki GSX750E ( Germany ) for sale on eBay

The GSX had Suzuki’s newer four valve engine, with 9.6-to-1 compression and 84 hp.  50 ft.-lbs. torque spoke through a 5-speed transmission, with a pieplate-sized clutch cover stretching the steel twin cradle chassis.  Light looking cast wheels held 16-inch front and 17-inch rear tires.  Triple 275mm disks rate Suzuki’s anti-dive system, and should be able to handle anything the 456 lbs. GSX can muster.  Just the airbox and battery are hidden by the sidecovers, everything else is free for the asking.

Somehow hidden away near the Austrian border, this Suzuki doesn’t appear to have half of its 10,115 miles.  Preparation ( or maybe just preservation ) is at a very high level, without any extraneous polishing.  At 37 years, it’s over any discussion of ownership or maintenance, and a nice walkaround video is – here – complete with German synthesizer band soundtrack.  Comments from the eBay auction:

Complete ready to go motorbike, with:
– 2 original ignition keys
– 2 original frame lock keys
– original underseat toolbox.

Never damaged/crashed/repaired/refurbished or rebuild motorbike, extremely rare to find, really rarely saved condition for the motorbike, ideal for museum or jeans shop window, fancy stuff shops, coffee bar, etc (it is in so nice condition that is pity to drive it) – looks like has just came from a production line in Hamamatsu !
Who collects motorbikes, here’s a piece of history in its best shape.

Bidders will have to factor careful shipping into their purchase, though having this GSX on display next to some other vintage Suzuki’s would certainly fill out the showroom.  The seller is right that the road wouldn’t be right for this example, maybe just a blast down a private airstrip occasionally.
