This is a freshly restored TZ250A from Washington on eBay!

Bike:  1974 Yamaha TZ250A

Location:  Camano Island, Washington

This TZ250A comes to us from the same seller who is parting with his RG500.  They appear to be liquidating quite the desirable motorcycle collection and I wouldn’t hesitate adding them to your favorite sellers list.

This TZ250 has been completely gone through with a fresh engine rebuild, new bodywork/paint, NOS rear shock, redone expansion chambers and a redone tank.  A small spares package is included.  This A model looks perfect with it’s wire wheels and large disc breaks, which were changed for discs on the C variant.  This should definitely be considered if you’re looking for a TZ to vintage race or just add to the collection.  See the other TZ250′s that have crossed our desks here.  See this bike on eBay with a $10k opening bid.

1993 Yamaha TZ250 RS

This TZ250RS is perfect for the Yamaha aficionado or, any two stroke nut who thinks NSR’s are too plentiful!

Make: Yamaha
Model: TZ250 RS
Mileage: 3,700
Price: $9,000 Plus Tax

This is another bike from Ozzie’s mouth-watering collection, and doesn’t disappoint even when compared to it’s gorgeous stablemates!  These 250RS’ are the homologation bikes for the production run TZR250R’s and feature, most importantly, a 6-speed transmission with dry-clutch, adjustable 39mm USD forks with an adjustable shock out back, two brake rotors up front with four-piston calipers, a dry weight of 126kg and a power out put of 45hp.  This bike is the epitome of homologation specials; could you imagine a lightweight Ninja 250 with a dry clutch?  No, because it’s economically unfeasible and there is no way the big-four would do it now!  This bike looks to be in showroom new condition while being finished in the, somewhat, traditional Yamaha red & white color scheme with the yellow number plates.  If you like your ring-ding’s with some rocks in a coffee can, this bike is for you!

1993 RS (dry clutch) and really in even cleaner condition than my KR replica. Has 6000KM (3700miles)

Best of luck with the sale Ozzie!

This TZ is a project that’s nearly complete.  The engine has been gone through with a new top end, fifty miles on the crank, a polished frame and swingarm, and a paint job that isn’t perfect but was painted with track work in mind.  The asking price for this bike is $6,500 USD.  This is the same seller that had the restored Honda RS250 ND5 that looked fantastic and can be seen here.  The restoration of this TZ can be seen on NATS here.  See the ad for this bike on WERA here.

1977 Yamaha TZ250 Restoration Project In Virgina

This is a TZ250D in Virgina that needs  to be rescued!

Bike: 1977 Yamaha TZ250D

Price:  $3,500 USD

Location:  Roanoke, Virgina

The seller only states that this bike last raced in the late ’80′s and has been sitting since.  Looking at the photos it looks to be in quite good shape–pictures can be deceiving–and just might need a mechanical restoration if you’d like to keep the original look.  These bikes were very competitive in the ’70′s and still make great vintage machines with good parts availability if you know where to look.  See the bike on Craigslist here.

Yamaha TZR250 1KT With Low Miles In California

Filed Under (Sport Bikes For Sale, Yamaha) by Alex on 23-04-2010

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , , , ,

This is a very nice, original, looking TZR250 with less than 1,000 miles on it!  Located in Orange County, California is a Yamaha TZR250.  The seller doesn’t state much other than that the bike “1kt low miles almsot perfect condition(sic)”.  The seller does include “1KT” which indicates that this is the Japanese domestic version and not the U.K. market bike (2MA).  The bike does look to be in very good condition and completely original as per what the seller is claiming.  The seller makes no mention of a title or registration but, with the asking price of $6,500; I would imagine it is titled/registered.

These early TZR250s are 249cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin,  tw0-strokes producing 50hp driving around 308lbs!  This is the beginning of the TZR line that was very expensive for a 250 of the time but was race bred from Yamaha’s TZ experience.  If you’re a collector looking to fill out your Yamaha or two-stroke collection, I wouldn’t hesitate to have a look at this one!  See the bike on Craigslist here.

(1980) Yamaha TZ500G

Located in Sydney, Australia is a Yamaha TZ500G.  These bikes usually come available through word-of-mouth but this one has been posted on North American Two Strokes.  This bike was entered by Hailwood & Gould for the Senior TT in 1980 and piloted by Jim Scaysbrook.  To quote the seller:

…perfect condition, full history from new including IOM (Isle of Man) very original down to the factory wooden crate for the original spare parts kit which will be supplied
would suit show or race/parade
standard wire wheels and brakes
standard pipes and mufflers
standard hand and foot controls
standard new fairing /seat /mudguard ,
the gearbox comes set up with standard ratio’s also comes with a variety of new and used alternate ratio’s and shafts as supplied by the factory (not arco)
a Yamaha spare parts kit can be supplied in the original spare parts crate if required ,i.e.,4-new cylinders ,2-new heads, spare gear ratio’s ,gaskets etc
the original Yamaha fairing and two seats will be provided.

The asking price is 34,000 Euro delivered.  Now, I assume everyone knows, this bike isn’t for the faint-hearted; it will be very expensive to run and will require a vast amount of–specific–knowledge.  The only reason I mention this is, like everyone else, I’m think “A very nicely equipped 5-Series BMW, or this…”  See the bike on NATS here.

1978 Yamaha TZ250E

Filed Under (Yamaha) by Alex on 27-12-2009

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , , ,

Located in Menlo Park, California is a completely original 1978 Yamaha TZ250 with less than five miles.  To quote the seller:

1978 Yamaha TZ 250, less than 5 break in miles if that .
This example has never even broken in. Garaged since new, will need new rubber & seals. Campagnolo 5-spoke alloys, fairing & duck-tail seat. Minor dings & scratches from sitting for so long, you will not find another one in nicer or newer condition.

Some information about 1978 TZ250s from Motor Bike Search Engine:

Introduced in 1978, the ‘E’ version of Yamaha’s all-conquering TZ250 production racer featured a new chassis frame. Retaining the same ‘monoshock’ rear suspension layout (complete with adjustable pre-load and compression damping) as its forebears, it relocated the famous twin-cylinder, two-stroke water-cooled engine some 20mm further forward. Mounted on special alloy plates, this remarkable unit boasted Hitachi’s automatically advancing / retarding CDI ignition system and Mikuni VM34SC carburetors. Reputed to develop 53bhp @ 10,500rpm, it was mated to a six-speed gearbox and reined in by front / rear disc brakes. A stepping stone in the careers of such riding greats as Kenny Roberts and Tom Herron etc, the TZ250′s influence reverberates to this day.

The asking price is firmly set at $7,500.  It would be nice to see this time machine cleaned up and on display–it would take some serious work to get it back to racing condition.  See this fantastic barn-find on Craigslist here.

Yamaha 2 stroke multi-post

1st up is a TZR 250 on the South Florida Craigslist located in Hollywood, FL

YAMAHA TZR 250
Very Good Running Condition
2 Stroke Very Fast
Sold as is with bill of sale

The seller didn’t disclose the year, but if I had to guess I would say it is a late 80′s due to the color scheme; my 89 400 looks very similar.  I really like this little bike and I think it would look nice next to my 400 and at $2,600 it seems to be on par with previous post on RSBFS.

=================================================================================

Next up is an Aussie 1985 RZ 500 on the Tucson, AZ Craigslist

1

The pictures aren’t that detailed to see the quality, but the seller gives a very detailed description of the bike and offers more pictures if requested.  It is being offered at $7,000.  You can compare past RSBFS RZ500′s here.

The plastic is in good condition with a couple of broken corners but nothing serious for a 25 year old bike that hasn’t sat in a museum. The paint is okay with a spot on the upper cowl where it’s cracked. I’ll send more detailed photos to interested parties.  I imported this bike a number of years ago and have ridden it very little.  It has a fair number of miles on it at 50k but, it’s been well cared for and not abused. It has the original Solo Cowl and even still has the Aussie license plate on it.

This one is registered on a Canadian frame that is currently on the bike, but the owner states he has the original frame as well so it could be put back to original if you chose to do so.  I’ve never had the opportunity to ride a big 2 stroke, but they sure look fast sitting still.  There’s nothing like the smell of burnt oil in the morning!

1978 Yamaha RD400

Located in Spokane, Washington is a fantastic, original, 1978 Yamaha RD400 race bike.  This bike is in the same condition that it was last raced in 1981, and looks very good with no obvious damage and only slight patina.  This bike comes with an extensive period memorabilia collection, some of which this bike appears in.  The bike is priced fairly at $5,500; but the seller is accepting offers.  This is a quote of the entire ad to give you a history of this bike and what is included with it:

This is a 1978 Yamaha RD400 that was purchased out of Escondito California brand new and built into a race bike that competed in the Southern Californias ARRA and AFM race series from 1978 – 1981 then stored correct……… and it sits now just as it came off the race track in 1981. Most these bikes were either junk or got molested for parts which makes a bike like this, a complete unrestored full race bike with the paper history it has pretty rare! I bought this bike from the original owner/racer who kept the bike in great shape and also had a ton of paperwork on it. The motor had a fresh build with only one race on it then was pickled, it pulls very hard!!!! Bike is ready for the track, just needs to be unstored and new tires put on because it still has the old slicks on it from ’81

Original ownership certificate, owners manual and warranty guide from escondito yamaha

Bike also has bunch of jetting lectron needles, extra head gaskets, rear sprockets, plugs, chain pieces, master link and tool, # plates and other stuff needed for a day at the track all from that era.
The Windscreen is broken but I have a new in the box from gustafson racing. The guy said one of the Toomey brothers pushed him into the grass back in the day and he dropped it, also has a small dent on the left side of the tank.
I’m probably also forgetting some stuff, any questions just ask

If you’re in the market for a vintage racer or classic piece of art, this bike should be considered!  See the bike on the Pacific Northwest Riders Forum here.

Located in Pittsburg, California is a very cool custom 1984 RZ350 consisting of parts from a RZ/TZ/R6.  This bike is titled and registered.  Seller states that it is 95% complete and is asking what seems to be a fair $5,000.  The details as per the seller:

Only 6 hours on the motor since being built. Requires 100 Octane Race Fuel with current domes but can be setup to run 92 Octane pump gas with included domes. Carbs will need new floats… I foolishly left the fuel petcock on when I went on a short vacation. The VP MR race fuel gummed up the carb bowls and floats. I have cleaned the throttle bodies extensively but will most likely have to replace the floats.

A very cool custom bike that appears to be at a very good price for the right person.  See the Craigslist ad here.
