Bike:  1993 Honda RS125

Location:  Lexington, Kentucky

This RS125 looks to be in very good condition being finished in a “House Of Color” (Kolor) candy blue scheme with silver Honda wings.  This RS hasn’t been run in at least three years but, was run at Daytona in 2005.  The spares included with this bike include an extra cylinder, plugs, sprockets, rings, fork seals, gaskets, clutch plates and some other items.

Because it’s been sitting for so long, and these bikes are so simple, I would suggest going through it before running it just to be sure everything is as it should be.  I think I’ve said it before but, these NF4 RS’s aren’t competitive with the ’95+ NX4 RS’s.  However, these bikes are less temperamental than the later bikes and make fantastic track day bikes or vintage machines if you have a sanctioning body that has a separate class for them.  The ’93 bikes wear the same front tire as the newer bikes but, have a smaller rear wheel (By a 1/2″).  Tires can still be easily sourced and I’ve actually been told that the larger size will fit on the narrower rim–however, I have no idea how that alters the handling.  These bikes are perfect if you want to play a Gran Prix legend on a budget.  Based on the condition and spares, I would expect to see this bike go for right around $2,500.  See other RS125s we’ve featured here.  See this RS on eBay .

Bike:  1988 Ikuzawa-Honda (Harris Engineering) RS600DE

Location:  Boyne City, Michigan

Mileage:  TMU

The seller states that this RS600DE is a one-owner bike, with the seller purchasing it from Ikuzawa himself.  This bike has only been run four times on the track.  The bike looks to be in very good, original, condition.  However, brake fluid has been split by the front master and rear master causing some discoloration and paint peel.  The rear swing-arm pinch bolts have also cracked the swing-arm on both sides.  I imagine Harris Engineering could reproduce you a swing-arm if you were inclined to run the bike again.  The seller states that this bike has only been run four times on track but also lists the mileage at 2k miles.

From what I can gather, the RS600DE is a parts bin bike with one-off bits where nothing OEM would fit.  The frame is a Harris Engineering unit while the motor consists of a Honda XBR500 bottom end & head with a XL600R barrel and HRC cam.  The rest of the bike is surprisingly sourced from a Suzuki RGV250, primarily, with the rear wheel assembly, front forks (The example on eBay shows conventional forks instead of USD units), front wheel and fairing (modified).  See a data sheet here (This data looks to be based on a single while the bike in question is a twin).

We aren’t privileged with many Harris specials on the open-market here in the U.S.A. but this one doesn’t disappoint.  The only issues are the two small cosmetic ones and the cracks on the rear swing-arm.  The swing-arm issue could be resolved with a new one or, possibly, a repair depending on the integrity of those points.

Bike:  2003 Honda Dream 50R

Location:  Lake Elsinore, California

Mileage:  Zero

Price:  $5,700USD

This Dream 50R was purchased in Japan in 2003 and subsequently shipped to the U.S.  This bike has zero miles and looks to have never been run, with the plastic covering for the seat, exhaust, and blue film still on the chrome bits.  The seller makes no mention of a title or maintenance history but, as you should know, this example is intended for display only.  This bike didn’t make it to the U.S. until the end of 2004, early 2005, and had an MSRP of $5,499–hence why you don’t see very many.

The Dream 50R isn’t just a scooter motor strapped into an old CB frame; here are some highlights:

…double-overhead-cam, HRC-built 50cc screamer that revs to 14,500 rpm…The new Dream uses lower-tech chains to drive its cams, yet it is able to rev 1000 rpm higher than the 13,500-rpm CR110. Power is directed through a 6-speed gearbox.  A lovely oil catch tank created out of aluminum contains crankcase blow-by, and aluminum fenders are used front and rear. Despite the use of a period-spec steel frame, Honda claims the lithe Dream weighs just 157 pounds dry. As with the NSR, the Dream is a product of HRC, and they’ve been kind enough to pre-drill the oil drain bolt to satisfy racing regulations for lockwiring critical fasteners.  Honda claims 7 horsepower at 13,500 from the 49cc engine, but it sounds like much more when the giant open velocity stack ravenously sucks in air for the open 20mm carb as the 40mm piston goes up and down 240 times each second.  The Dream handles like nothing else I’ve ridden. Honda didn’t provide rake and trail numbers, but it will suffice to say you’ve never ridden a motorcycle that turns with less effort…there’s actually enough room for a full-scale adult to fit.

This is a freshly re-built MC21 NSR finished in Repsol colors.  Located in Allen, Texas is a 1993 Honda NSR250(R) that is titled and registered in Texas.  The seller states that this bike has a completely re-built motor, new chain & sprocket, new rear tire and a large number of spare parts including an additional motor.  The bike is finished in an incorrect for the year/generation, but correct looking, Doohan Repsol replica paint scheme.  The bike is priced at $7,500; This is the higher end for MC21′s, usually where we see low mileage, original, California registered examples but, as the seller says, it does come with a supposedly large spares package including a motor.  It would be interesting to know what other spares are included because, for me, an additional motor and some bits needs a bit more to constitute a ~$2,500 premium.

The MC21 was an advanced bike when released featuring a PGMIII ECU from the RC30, which was:

“coupled to throttle position and gear position sensors, controls both the timing of the RC Valves, air correctors and ignition advance to give outstanding low end tractability. The PGM-III features a true 3D ignition and a different map for each cylinder…the famous Gull-Arm rear swingarm was copied from the RS250 of Luca Cadalora, as was the frame design. Even the mounting point for a steering damper was kept in place! The body-styling was based on the 1988 and 1989 RS250′s, with just a few basic concessions like lights and a rear pillion seat!! The rear wheel diameter was decreased from 18″ to 17″ and widened to 4.5″ to run the latest tyre profiles and compounds. The MC21 also now featured a closer ratio gearbox with a taller 1st gear and an improved shift mechanism.

This is the last year of the MC21 and a nice looking example regardless if it is original or not.  The Repsol scheme has easily become for Honda what Red is for Ferrari’s.  See this bike on Craigslist here.

Both front ends have recently been serviced, re-sprung and re-valved by Aftershocks. New DID x-ring chain. The tank has recently been cleaned. The carburetors have just been completely gone through by Donny Babb at Modesto Ducati. This bike runs perfect.

The asking price for the bike with the CBR1000RR front end is $6,500 and $5,500 with the RVF400R front end.  Personally, I would buy the bike with the RVF front end, save the money on the purchase and possibly upgrade to the CBR1000RR front end sometime in the future as the RVF front ends are only getting rarer and the CBR1000RR front ends are only getting cheaper.

When these CBR’s were available, they had all the features of a big CBR just in a smaller package.  They feature a DOHC, four valve per cylinder, transverse four cylinder, four stroke, producing 53hp and rev’ing to 14,500rpm.  An aluminum frame kept weight down to 163kg and they featured a Showa adjustable rear shock and flat-side carb’s .  This bike is just as exotic to us American’s as any other gray import but, features the dependability of a Honda four-stroke.  See the 1994 example Jay posted not too long ago here.  If you’re interested-and as always, you should be–see this bike on Craigslist here.

These NC35′s looked–and ran–the part with 41mm USD Showa forks, a 17″ rear wheel, 30mm carbs and other upgrades setting it apart from the VFR400R that preceded it.  The asking price for this bike is $5,000.  See the other NC35′s from Southern California here and here.  See the example currently for sale on Craigslist here.

These VFR400R’s are some of the lightest wight and best handling four strokes you can buy on the used market.  They go around corners like any bike should, are lightweight like a bike should be, and look like an RC30–which a bike should.  We’ve seen these 400cc bikes pretty regularly but, if one pops up in your area you should absolutely go down and take a look at it and, unfortunately for your other bikes, you’ll probably come back with it!  See the for sale ad with extra-large photos here.  See the for sale thread on BayAreaRidersForum here.

Yes, you are seeing another RC30 for sale in less than 1 week. It is either the economy or the Baby Boomers moving on to another toy, but either way it is rare to see 2 for sale so close together. Last weeks RC30 didn’t sell, but fetched a hefty bid of $28,766.00. I thought for sure it would have sold around the $27,000 mark, but the owner liked it more than anyone else, which isn’t so bad considering he still owns the best RC30 I’ve ever seen up for sale.

This latest offering is nothing to turn your nose up to because it looks to have been a ridden a little, and cared for a whole lot. By looking at the pictures you wouldn’t know it has 15k on the odometer other than the discoloration from the exhaust. Take a look and see what you think.

In the owners words:

Up for auction is my U.S. spec 1990 Honda RC30. Only 300 were hand built by a 4 man team from start to finish. There are fewer than 300 remaining since many went to the race track and were destroyed. Mine is # 176. I am the original owner and have put every mile on it. My bike has never been down, raced, or abused in any way. The bike has always been housed indoors and has never seen rain.

I will let the pictures speak as to its’ condition-it could easily fit into a museum display. You will notice on the bottom of the lower fairing some slight discoloring. RC30s run slightly warm, and the hot exhaust will cause the discoloration. To protect the body and cool the engine bay the exhaust and coolant hoses are heat wrapped (easy to remove if desired). I thought about having the fairing painted but decided I wanted to keep it as it is. The discoloration does not show when mounted.

Included with the bike is the original owner’s/service manual, an original sales brochure, a complete copy of the parts microfiche, the original Honda race stand, a signed picture of a Two Brothers RC30 Rider, a sealed model of the RC30, and a video of a very young replacement rider named Miguel DuHamel riding an RC30 to Victory in the Daytona 200.

Whether riding this bike with a grin that won’t fit in your helmet, or staring at it as a piece of fine art, you will not be disappointed.

This RC30 is that good.

UPDATE: This is back on ebay with a Still a little high, but 10% cheaper than last time

It is 12(14) years removed from brand new, but it looks to be in good shape and ready to rock-n-roll. Equipped with a small V4 engine, single sided swing arm and dual headlights these were definitely not the norm back in 98. Although, they were never officially brought state side there seem to be several of them around and you can almost always find one for sale. As a matter of fact, Alex posted a race version last week that was all tricked out.

The bad news on this one is the B.I.N. price is set at $10,000.00, which is quite exorbitant. Most RVF/VFR’s that we’ve posted are in the $4,000 to $8,000 range w/ titles and streetable. Nonetheless, if you are looking for one of these give this one a look. They are still stylish and don’t look dated like some bikes from the mid 90′s.

This is a rare Japanese Domestic street legal race bike with a valid NC title. The bike was purchased in Japan by an American service man. He brought it back legally to the states. I have had the bike since 2003 and have used it almost exclusively on the track. It is in like new condition and pristine. Only one minor defect in an unfortunate incident on the back of my truck. Never abused and only used on a few US Desmo track days.

There are several more pictures posted on the auction site. The seller mentions an accident, but I couldn’t find any pictures that detailed it. Bike is said to have 6,000 miles on the clock, but you’d be hard pressed to tell it by looking at the pictures.
