Featured Listing – 1991 Ducati 851 S3 FBF Replica

Update 7.31.2018: Price reduced to $12,000 USD or best offer. Good luck to buyers and seller! -dc

Ducati's four-valve foray, the WSBK-winning 851 desmoquattro is destined for collectibility.  Meanwhile the Weber fuel-injected superbike is a rideable feast.  Rare as 851's are stateside, this Ferracci replica is 1,000 miles closer to Oz than JFK, and may interest collectors anywhere on the globe.

1991 Ducati 851 S3 FBF Replica for sale

Ducati put together a complex basket for all their eggs in the 851, fuel injection, water cooling, and four-valve desmodromic heads.  The package claims 110 hp, but the brilliant torque is the stuff of legend.  Big Showa suspension and big Brembo brakes are at the end of the trellis frame.  A generous windshield guards the rider stretched over the long tank.  If you have a sporty pillion there is a spot under the beauty cover.

Robbie's 851 looks quite good and substantially stock.  Recently serviced after an extended hiatus, it has clean injectors, new cam belts and tires.

From the seller:

This very rare jewel is being offered for sale to enthusiasts and collectors by the present owner.  Qualified people will understand the rarity of this exceptional motorcycle.  This bike is in very good condition.  Runs like a train!  Has recently had new tyres & cam belts fitted.  Due to extended storage the complete EFI system has been refurbished, the bike has received a complete service and tune up by the experts.

The bike is completely original and unrestored. Well maintained and never dropped. Also features Tecnomagnesio wheels and, fully adjustable Showa fork and Ohlins rear shock.

Bike is located in South Africa.

The 851 divulges its racing heritage, being much more comfortable in a fast sweeper than in a "technical" corner.  In the hands of the factory race team, it had a great career and won the Superbike World Championship in 1990, with the very similar 888 taking the honors in 1991 and '92.  Robbie asks $12,000 USD or best offer and requests offers on 27-82-410-0787 or e-mail - here - .

Greeced Lightning: 2000 Bimota DB4RS in Athens!

For Sale: 2000 Bimota DB4RS

From the far away region of Greece comes this (potentially) fantastic Bimota DB4 race bike. I say "potentially" as there is not a great deal of information available on the bike - but if all works out this could be a very significant bike indeed.

The stock DB4 utilized an air cooled Ducati 900cc L-twin, which produced approximately 80 HP. The good folks from Rimini wrapped the torquey two valve twin in a lightweight, oval-shaped aluminum perimeter frame for a claimed dry weight of 165 kilos (or about 364 pounds). Check out the specs supplied by the seller below on this race-prepped model - 140 kilos (about 308 pounds) and 95 ponies at the rear wheel. That certainly sounds like a potent package!

From the seller:
BIMOTA DB4RS MADE FOR WINNING IN THE ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN SUPERTWINS.WINNER IN VALELUNGA WITH ALESSANDRO TOMASSONI AND OTHER RACES .BIKE WEIGHT 140 KILOS ,95HP ON THE WHEEL.MAX REVS 8.500 , 1040CC.

MOTOR FULL NCR WITH SUPERMONO CRANKSHAFT , CARILLO, FBF PISTONS , NCR CAMS , MENON LARGE VALVES ,EVR ECU , 2 LAMDA SENSORS ETC..

FRAME NO 007 FROM VERLICCI STRENGTHENED FRAME AND SWINGARM ALSO MORE LONG

MARCHESINI MAGNESIUM WHEELS BREMBO BRAKES ARC 6 PISTON CALIPERS , PAIOLI AND FG SUSPENSION.

FULL CARBON DREAM CARBON FAIRING AND TANK

BIKE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION , NO CRASHES

The list of tuners and suppliers on this bike is very significant: NCR, Carillo, FBF, Menon, Verlicci, Marchesini, Brembo, Paioli and FG - not to mention the LeoVince exhaust as pictured on the bike. With 1040cc worth of torque, and the light-nimble handling of the modified Bimota frame, there is no wonder that this bike powered Alessandro Tomassoni to victory.

In my research, I was not able to find any bespoke DB4 "RS" designated models (so perhaps our knowledgeable RSBFS readers can chime in), but Bimota certainly did go racing with the DB4 - and Tomassoni ended up winning the 2000 Championship. Here is a picture below of Tomassoni at speed:

I also found this news report regarding the inaugural win of the Bimota DB4 in the SuperTwins cup. From the archives:

Monday 08th, May
A successful debut for the Bimota DB4 I.E. in the Formula Twins European Cup 2000.
A new great international success for Bimota. A few days after the amazing win in the Superbike, a new win yesterday in the Formula Twins European Cup 2000. The Italian rider Alessandro Tomassoni, on the DB4 Electronic Injection, tuned by the Rimini-based team "Bimota GRB", dominated the first round of the Championship held at the Italian circuit of Vallelunga. Pole position and win with more than 8 seconds ahead of the followers: a peremptory win, achieved among 34 riders from all countries and several twin-cylinder bikes, including an official Buell. The Championship formula allows any kind of modification and therefore it's contested by most of the best tuners. Let's reward the GRB team which, in two months only, tuned up a very powerful DB4 I.E., also thanks to the precious co-operation with Fast by Ferracci. The second round of the Formula Twins European Cup 2000 will be held at Rijeka, on July 9th 2000.

History shows that Alessandro Tomassoni went on to win the championship that year. His success was never far from twin cylinder machinery, as he was also very successful in the BMW Boxer Cup series as evidenced below (Tomassoni is bike #4).

This rare race Bimota with what appears to be a stout racing history is available now. The bike is located in Athens, Greece, and the opening ask for the auction is steep: $24,000 (Range Rover not included). Interested parties would be wise to conduct additional research, acquire more pictures of the bike, and obtain additional history. All signs point to some pretty remarkable hardware and progeny, but you can check it out yourself here. What do you think?

Fast by Ferracci – 1998 Ducati 916 Corsa

There certainly are not too many of these about.  A 1998 916R which apparently is a Corsa factory bike.  Now that would be tough to believe except this is a FBF bike but for those who know about Eraldo Ferracci and his relationship with Ducati, there would be little doubt that this beauty came from the Corsa part of the factory.  While designated a 916 the engine is actually a 996cc unit which eventually was in all the bikes and they became the 996.  The seller has very little to say about the bike however a look through the pictures and you can see loads of carbon fibre, Ohlins, Brembo monoclocs etc.  I love the picture of the shower injectors, these were designed to supply the engine with fuel in the upper rev ranges in order that it could make the high end power it needed to.  The 916 Corsa was never road legal unlike latter R designated bikes. This bikes had 60mm throttle bodies and made 151bhp at 11,000 rpm straight from the factory, while weighing 155kg (342 lbs) dry.  As for rare, according to Ian Falloon, only 18 of these bikes were made in 1998.  It really is a part of Ducati history.

The seller only has a little to say:

Fast By Ferracci '98
Factory Ducati Corsa 916R
996cc
Wide Adjustable triple tree. Shower injectors.
Thumb brake
PI Research LTD Data Acquisition sys. / Marchesini / Ohlin’s / Brembo
Magnesium, Titanium, Carbon Fiber

The auction can be found here on eBay.

You can see the bike running here and if I am not mistaken the grey haired gentleman is Eraldo himself:

At $28k this is not cheap but compare that to 999R prices.  Ok so this is not road legal but even so what a bike for the money.

(1997) Ducati 916SPS/Fast By Ferracci 1026 In Oklahoma

This is a 916SPS fitted with a FBF 1026 stroker kit!  Located in Stillwater, Oklahoma is a Ducati 916SPS that has been fitted with the Fast By Ferracci 1026 kit.  The seller makes no mention of a year or mileage (other than that it is low) but, I'm going to assume it is an early SPS because of what look to be Showa front forks.  If this bike is built to the same spec as the FBF display bikes it has:

  • FBF 1026 big bore kit
  • Titanium connecting rods
  • FBF stroker powercrank
  • FBF ported cylinder heads
  • Oversized vales
  • Custom stage 3 EPROM
  • FBF 54mm full exhaust

The bike is also fitted with early Dymag carbon five-spoke wheels.  I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it doesn't have the FBF carbon bodywork and tank judging by the original looking bodywork but, I could be wrong, this is all speculation.  The full kit probably, originally, ran the seller just under $10k and resulted in just under 150hp.  These 916SPS bikes appear to have stopped depreciating and, I'll bet, this seller is probably looking for a lot more than a stock SPS.  See the previous 916SPS' we've posted here.  See the Craigslist post here.
