1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special available in Puyallup, WA

SOLD

1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special for sale

Today's Featured Listing is this RD400 Daytona Special. Reviews in it's day remarked that this 2 stroke was for hooligans and wheelie addicts. 1979 marked the end of the RD400 and the Daytona Special was Yamaha's way of celebrating their success at the fabled racetrack.

This is example has only 2039 original miles and is un-restored which adds a nice touch of patina that I find endearing, not to mention it wouldn't intimidate me to actually ride it rather than purely display.

Thanks for helping support the site with a Featured Listing and good luck with the sale Dave!

from the seller:

I have an un-restored Yamaha RD400F Daytona Special. It has once over Wiesco pistons in it because the previous owner botched its initial Break-In. The original air filter has been replaced with a foam element and the brakes rebuilt due to a long storage period. This bike has always been in my heated shop except for the rides. I have owned this bike since 1994. I have the original sales invoice from place of purchase. Except for a few nicks and scratches, this bike is immaculate. I am asking $6,900.00 for someone to take care of her. Please email me at ssvme@comcast.net with any questions. And yes, I have the original mirror.

The "new" Triumph motorcycles don't grace the pages of RSBFS very often (last one was March 2013) but here is a very good looking 1200SE Daytona for sale on eBay.

For those readers who might be unfamiliar with the Big 1200SE, when Triumph re-launced in the states again the 90's, both 3 and 4 cylinder bikes were offered. Triumph eventually retired the big four cylinder engine to focus on the the 3 cylinder and parallel twins more closely associated with the history of Triumph. A bit of a shame because the big four cylinders were fun, fast and pretty much bulletproof. This was due to their twin balance shafts (which was unique at the time) mounted beneath the crank shaft. Road tests noted the smoothness of performance as positives and lack of "new bike" concerns as there were remarkably few early problems.

A review of the big 1200 can be read here: http://www.carolenash.com/insidebikes/bike-reviews/triumph/daytona-1200/

The 1999 Special Edition was a limited edition run of 250 motorcycles with the exclusive color combination of black body with gold graphics and gold wheels. It also was given 6-piston caliper brakes.

There isn't too much info on the eBay post but the but but it now is right in line with KBB retail. Also a decent YouTube video here, although its not the same bike it gives you idea of what these are like.

Big Bird: 1995 Triumph Daytona III

1995 Triumph Daytona III For Sale

Yep, she's British, bright yellow, and a bit on the heavy side. Described as more hyper sports tourer than superbike, the Super III did get good reviews even if couldn't really be compared to it's competitors of the time. The Super III is an upgraded 900cc Daytona that is lighter, features better brakes, and somewhat revised cosmetics. While Triumph made more powerful models featuring 4 cylinder 1000's and 1200's, it was the 900 triple that felt like the best balance and set the Daytona apart.

This example has a little over 11k miles and looks really clean in the photos. With an asking of $4500 this looks like a cool pickup for not much cash.

Magnificent Magni: 1994 Magni Australia

Magnificent Magni:  1994 Magni Australia (Moto Guzzi)

A couple of weeks ago I'd never heard of Magni and now I have a second chance to spend more money that I don't have on one of their gems.  Up for auction is 1994 Magni Australia with an assist on power from Moto Guzzi.

The MV Agusta like red and silver paint may not be a coincidence as Arturo Magni was an engineer for MV at the beginning of his career.  The Australia is actually a development out of a  bike Magni raced down under with great success.  Click here for the bikes specs (98 model) directly from Magni itself and keep clicking  as someone scanned an Australian test of the bike and posted it on a forum.  If you like what you see I also recommend doing a Google image search for "Magni Australia".  You will be rewarded with lots of pictures.

Just a little from the seller:

1994 MAGNI AUSTRALIA ,ULTRA RARE SUPER BIKE 4800 KILOMETERS FROM NEW ,MINT CONDTION ,NO ISSUES ,RUNS PERFECT ,ALL ORIGINAL ,4 VALVE MOTO GUZZI DAYTONA ENGINE ,FUEL INJECTION ,VERY FAST ,95 HP ,CLEAN CALIFORNIA TITLE ,WE AT BUYERS EXPENSE CAN SHIP WORLDWIDE

At first glance I thought the Termignoni exhaust was not original but I've seen plenty of pictures with them on other Australia's.  Magni's can be made to order and it sounds like you can mix and match parts so I'd expect slight differences in each bike.

Nice and simple and race like from the top.  Although this picture does not show it, the Australia has Magni's unique Parallelogrammo rear suspension.

I came up empty on any solid numbers for a price of a Magni Australia.  The guess of $20,000 to $25,000 was popular tough.  Can any RSBFS readers give some insight here?  As of this writing the bike had hit $12,000 and the reserve had yet to be met.

Check out the auction here.

Here is a little treat for your eyes and ears from Japan

Brit Bike – 2004 Triumph Daytona Special Edition

This rather nice Triumph has one great paint job. OK being English I am biased but I always love this flag draped over the front of the bike. This Triumph is a 4 cylinder bike with fuel injection, of course now Triumph are famous for their triples, even so this is a Hinckley Triumph. This Daytona was renowned for being a great handling bike and has proved a favorite with track day enthusiasts in the UK. With 110bhp coming from the engine it also managed to get up and go.

The owner gives us some detail here and also is kind to point out the damage.

FOR SALE IS AN 2004 TRIUMPH DAYTONA 600 SPECIAL RACING EDITION (VERY RARE) CLEAN TITLE, NEVER BEEN WRECKED. RIGHT FRONT FAIRING HAS MINOR COSMETIC DAMAGE. BIKE HAS LITTLE OVER THAN 11,000 MILES, RUNS AND RIDES PERFECTLY. NEW TIRES AND NEW BRAKES, AFTERMARKET MUFFLER, EVERYTHING ELSE IS ORIGINAL PARTS.

$4200, AND THAT IS A STEAL FOR SURE. TITLE IN HAND. NOT EXCEPTING TRADES.

The eBay auction can be found here.

I think $4200 is a good price perhaps a little on the top end but this is a very nice bike with a sensible mileage and you have to love the paintwork.
