Featured Listing: 2010 Aprilia RSV4 WSBK Racer!

In the motorcycling world there is the collectible category, the unobtanium performance category, and the pure bike porn category. Today's Featured Listing ticks all of those boxes - and so much more. Originally a 2010 Aprilia RSV4 WSBK offering, this particular example has been upgraded to a more current spec including a 2012 Aprilia Racing EV02 SBK engine with ZERO hours. The provenance comes direct from the source: Aprilia Racing. What you are looking at a supermodel with Olympian capabilities and a royal bloodline, ever sexy, ever willing and ever special.

Featured Listing: 2010 Aprilia RSV4 EV02 WSBK Racer!

Writing words about this special machine feels sacrilegious; it's like talking over an opera by Mozart, Puccini or Tchaikovsky. It's akin to diagramming artwork like the Mona Lisa in finger paint. So I'll stop and just let the pictures speak for themselves. Try not to get lost in the exquisite carbon fiber, rare alloys in the chassis, engine and exhaust, and the pristine packaging. Prepare to drool:

From the seller:
I bought this bike direct from Aprilia Racing in 2013 and motor has been rebuilt with zero hours.

This caliber of equipment, power and exclusivity does not come our way every day. And nobody ever accused WSBK machines of being cheap. But if you want the best of what is available, you might want to take a closer look. Thankfully, this seller has provided a significant number of high-quality photos.

From the seller:
Asking $80k Aussie dollars
Happy to organize freight at extra costs to anywhere In the world

Contact: jai@curtisconstruction.com.au

By today's conversion rates, the seller is asking just shy of $60,000 USD. That is well within the range of what we have seen for WSBK spec bikes in the past, if not marginally less. Technology will continue to evolve, speeds will always increase, and time will continue to march on - but this will ALWAYS be an Aprilia Racing WSBK machine, and the cachet that goes along with that is ageless. This beauty is eternal, whether you choose to show it or shag it at your favorite track day / exhibition event. Bikes of this caliber are few and far between, and rarely come up for sale. Serious parties should reach out to Jai Curtis directly before this amazing RSV4 WSBK-spec beast is gone.

Commemorative Replica – 2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200 Custom

Extending the run of the ZRX1100 ( itself a harkening to the 1982 Eddie Lawson Replica KZ1000R ) the ZRX1200 wound the series down as only a carburetted 1200 cc naked superbike could.  This 30K-mile ZRX is the subject of a tasteful customization with a lot of heavy work done.  If a naked super / show bike has ever tickled your  fancy, this one deserves a look see.

2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200 Custom for sale on eBay

The ZRX1200R was kind of the ultimate Universal Japanese Motorcycle, with steel frame, four Keihin carbs, twin shocks, conventional riding position, but 122 hp and almost 83 ft.-lbs. torque.  Water cooling was an oughties concession to noise and emissions.  The headers on the  four-into-one exhaust were black from the factory.  With the added power came some weight however, and the handling was more sport-touring than sport, though an easy 5-speed to ride with all that torque.

As re-imagined by someone in the road racing business, this ZRX has a more European flavor, with Öhlins front and WP rear suspension.  Brembo calipers over Galfer rotors.  The Akropovic exhaust system is polished save the carbon muffler.  Relieved of the bikini fairing, the Kawi racing green paint does it justice in a way the original metallic green couldn't.  Too much to list, as they say, but here's a section of the eBay auction:

As a former race mechanic, now in my late 50's, I built this bike in the spirit of a superbike road racing machine.  I bought the bike off the ZRXOA forum last summer and it was fairly close to stock. The bike has cost me just over $20K and that is doing all the work myself. I am selling the bike because I want to start another custom build, this time on a Z1.

The bike has no known faults whatsoever and runs perfectly. It is a 2003 ZRX 1200 with 30,078 miles. I have only put 140 miles on it in 8 months, just riding locally. All the below parts were fitted less than 40 miles ago, and as you will see from the build list, only the finest available components were used. The bike is located in Hollister, CA. Clean and clean CA title in my name. CA registration through June. The bike has three keys (keys fit all locks) and toolkit.

Although the motor is stock, the addition of Yoshimura TNR-MJN 34 flat slide carbs has transformed the response and midrange. The bike power wheelies very easily in first and second. Naturally the handling and braking have also been transformed with new suspension, lighter wheels, Brembos calipers and master cylinders, Spiegler brake lines, sinter pads and Galfer discs.

Going in my books as a light custom, this ZRX retains all the muscle-bike attributes and only improves the suspension and braking.  The updated carburettors is something only an experienced wrench would do, and the new owner would be advised to find filters for them if riding is the plan.  Not expecting a sky-high price since it is a 30K-mile bike, and might take a few rides on eBay before enough riders see it.  But the overall vibe is very enjoyable, not heavily personalized, and respectful of the original concept, a now 35 year-old ( ! ) replica of Fast Eddie Lawson's 1981 AMA Superbike winner...

Leonard Smalls approves: 2000 Nico Bakker Barracuda 1000 formerly owned by Nicolas Cage

Back on ebay after failing to sell in December of 2015, here is a Nikko Bakker crafted Barracuda 1000 that is said to have been previously owned by Nicholas Cage.

2000 Suzuki TL1000 powered Nico Bakker on ebay

Collectible sportbikes typically meet at least one of the following criteria; be produced in limited numbers, been in pristine/OEM condition (or have very low mileage); have what was at the time new/revolutionary technology, be hard to find in its listed location and/or have a significant ownership history. In this case, we have a bike that meets  a significant number of these criteria.  The Barracuda is a Nico Bakker framed special powered by the Suzuki TL1000 power.  This particular Barracuda was previously owned by Nicholas Cage of Leaving Las Vegas (good!) and Ghost Rider (bad!) fame and could be the only one imported into the United States.

I have to admit I am a Nico Bakker fan, in large part because he designed the frame for my beloved Zane-era Laverda 750 series.  Apparently Nico Bakker is still building bikes in the small town of Heerhugowaard, Holland (about an hour north of Amsterdam).  You can see more about Nico Bakker from this post from 2012.

27-P1020039

From what I am have been able to find, the Barracuda has a custom frame built around a Suzuki TL1000 engine, suspension is WhitePower/WP or Ohlins, brakes are Brembo, the exhaust is Akrapovic and the 5-spoke wheels are Marvic.  More details about the components can be found here and there is a review from Carole Nash here.

15-P1020027

20-P1020032

Like most very small production runs, there isn't a lot of information on what it would take to maintain this bike.  Given that its core is a Suzuki TL1000 and the rest of the bits are high end (but well established), I would expect no significant maintenance issues but I would expect to need fresh fluids and given its age, probably fresh rubber/tires too.

From the seller:

  • Mileage is only 765 miles/1232km
  • Recent serviced included battery replacement
  • Features a steel tubular frame with alloy swingarm.  Powertrain from the Suzuki TL1000.
  • Ride height, steering angle and even the swing arm height can be altered.

09-P1020018

So what is this Dutch crafted rarity worth?  Based on the previous listings it seems that the seller is looking for prices above $22,000 USD which seems like a lot for a bike that while rare, doesn't seem to inspire "lust".  (previous listing on ebay here.)   Also I am not sure if this one will appreciate in value.

I think this will only appeal to a serious collector, someone who already has a decent collection and and is looking to take a bit of a flyer on this one.    It may also appeal to  Zane-era Laverda fans and maybe that is the best potential new owner- someone who wants to see what's it like to have a Nico Bakker frame combined with a bonkers powerplant.

2003 Aprilia RSV Mille R Colin Edwards Edition

After great success racing the smaller displacement classes in Moto GP, Aprilia developed a World Superbike machine and produced the RSV Mille road bike from 1998 through 2003.  Except for the SP ( Sport Production ) 1999 homologation special which used a Cosworth-developed high revving engine, the R model is the ultimate, and this Colin Edwards Edition with livery from the RS Cube race bike, is from the last year of production and very rare indeed.

Jamie James prepared 2008 Yamaha YZF-R AMA Superbike – ex Scott Russell bike!

For Sale: 2008 Yamaha YZF-R AMA Superbike Jamie James Scott Russell

What you are looking at is a 2008 Yamaha R1 prepared by Jamie James Productions for Scott "Mr Daytona" Russell. This bike was a backup bike for AMA SuperStock competition, and retains street legal bits and title in addition to the Jamie James and Scott Russell pedigree.

From the seller:
JJP ( Jamie James Productions) a Superbike champion and as a Yamaha factory spokesperson is legendary. With the help of the factory, Jamie James built 2 Yamaha R1's for Superstock competition with the rider being "Mr. Daytona" Scott Russell. This happens to be the back up bike, athough set up identically to the race bike it was actually never raced, hence why its like new. I recently spoke to Jamie about the bike and he remembers it well, in fact Jamie remembers Scott saying "this is the fastest bike I've ever ridden". I wont bore you with the details of the stock Yamaha R1, but this about the time Jorge Lorenzo won Moto GP, Ben Spies won WSBK world superbike ( hence the bodykit) and Josh Hayes won AMA superbike, 'nuff said. It's part of my personal collection of bikes, not my stores and It's condition is near flawless. Yes it's used, so expect to find some wear if you get on your hands and knees ( maybe some carbon damage on muffler),but you would be hard pressed to find it, Im fastidious about the details. Its' never been raced by Scott Russell or myself, but probably needs to be, its an incredible machine and you wont get passed on the straights, thats for sure. It comes with TWO sets of body work, one for the track and one for the street of which there are pics of both in the Sterilgarda livery. Show or ride this bike, street riding is awesome with the Bazzaz fuel management. It's low mileage, and incredible amount of bits of which I'll list below and it may be the only one in the world like it. Have copy of original paperwork from Yamaha to Jamie James. The title is in my name now, free and clear.

Here is a detailed video from the seller outlining key features of the bike:

And here is an extensive list of items included with the bike:

Hand built 1000cc Yamaha engine, balanced-blueprinted,degreed cam's and factory supported power enhancements - JJP quotes as around 180 dyno'd rear wheel horsepower ( around 200hp at the crank)

Full Sterilgarda Bodywork, One street kit AND One track kit
Slipper clutch and close ratio 6 speed transmission
Ohlins World SuperSport front forks (built by Ohlins factory)
Ohlins TTX rear triple clicker shock
Ohlins adjustable steering dampener
Bazzaz Traction control ( on the fly adjustment)
Bazzaz quick shifter ( full throttle clutchless upshifts)
Bazzaz Z-Fi fuel injection mapping w/ handlebar switch ability (automatic engine mapping for power)
Akropovich FULL Titanium headers and exhaust w/ Carbon Fiber mufflers (sounds incredible)
Vortex fully adjustable rearsets
Vortex Front + rear sprockets
D.I.D gold chain
Woodcraft adjustable handlbars
R & G front, mid, rear and front fork frame sliders
Eliptech LED shift light indicator ( awesome piece)
CRG adjust a click shorty levers
Billet Alternator + clutch side plates
Michelin Pilot pure Ultra high performance tires
Street items
Mirror block off plates
LED turn and rear signals
Fender eliminator/License plate holder
Kick stand

If you are ready to step up to the big leagues of track day bikes, this just might be your weapon. With world-class componentry throughout - as well as some tasty add-ons - you could not put this bike together for what you can buy it for. Sure, a real racebike that was wrung out by Scott Russell in anger would likely bring more cash, but this is a very close second place.

This auction is on right now with the current bid under $10k at the time of this writing. The reserve is still in place. There are so many things right with this bike that you have to wonder where it will end up. This bike has all the right stuff: the right names behind it (James, Russel, Ohlins, Bazzaz, Akropovic, Eliptech, Vortex, Woodcraft, etc etc etc), a great presentation with tons of pics and a looong video, and a unique background. The R1 may not be a collectable bike, but I think this one will do rather well.

For more information and details, click on the link and check out the auction. Good luck to you, and be sure and tell 'em you found it on RSBFS!
