I never pass an opportunity to highlight an early RS250, which is what we have here today. This 96 model is the third year of the MK1 which features a modified version of Suzuki’s VJ22 powerplant from the RGV250. It’s difficult to tell from the low quality photos exactly what is original and what’s not. The one thing that definitely stands out is that the frame and swingarm have been painted. I suspect this is to cover up some kind of blemish as these pieces have a kind of satin finish from the factory that is impossible to restore if nicked. It’s not a bad look by any means, but additional investigation is required. Finally, at $12k, even with a spare motor and a California credentials, this would set a new record high if sold at that price.
1996 Aprilia RS250 for sale on eBay
Chesterfield trivia: did you know that these smokes are still made but are exported exclusively to Europe now? I’ve been looking for a pack domestically for years.

from the seller:
Up for grabs a CA street titled Aprilia RS250 Chesterfield Edition 2 Stroke (1996), also including a spare motor. The bike is in EXCELLENT condition mechanically and cosmetically. The top end was just rebuilt and has under 150 miles on the road; new pistons and new rings so it runs beautiful!
This RS250 is not a converted cup bike. It is imported from Italy by the previous owner with 17 digit VIN. It has never been raced or tracked – a true collector’s dream! The bike has the original street fairing with Jollymoto pipes. All original parts are available including rear passenger seat and foot-pegs. My asking price is $12000 for everything (bike and motor as a package). The reason for selling everything is that I no longer ride the bike so I want someone to enjoy it! Currently garaged.
You’ve pretty much called it upfront, Dan. Poor presentation, way over priced for what it is, and the real deal breaker- the painted frame and swingarm. We can only guess what damage lurks underneath to justify why that was done. “Collector’s dream”? Hardly. $12K is the seller’s dreaming- I’d only pay $7K for this, and would have my fingers crossed even at that price.
Yep, that’s not going ANYWHERE at that price…
More than just the bike smoking something I think…
well it is in cali after all…
Too high, owner and price!
Seller is def smoking the good stuff.
This bike is worth about half his opening bid. And really? His reserve is somewhere over $12,000? Good luck Dude.
$12K isn’t unreasonable for a straight Chesterfield IMO. One close to stock or with proper mods, and registration.
I looked at this bike about a year ago. It is definitely NOT worth 12K. The tires are petrified, the bodywork is not that clean, and I didn’t even bother to go any further as the owner didn’t want to budge on price and he was asking 10K then. Now the CA plate is a definite big premium, but there are plenty of other CA plated RS’s that would be a way better buy IMO.
That’s used RSV4 money!
people with dollar signs stuck in their eyes make me laugh you can ask whatever you want to but if you’re not gonna use it sell it for what you can get for it being stubborn results in 0 $ profit
Definitely a rare bike, in a rare livery, with a rare plate. The bike has been inspected by the Bats recently and is a clean example having travelled less than 8k km’s. The black frame/swing arm and stickers are a turn off for us, while the stickers can be removed easily enough the black paint would be a chore. The $12k price is definitely high, with fair value on CA plated RS250’s in the
$6500-$8k range. There could be a buyer at a higher price out there, but they would be overpaying.
$6,500.00 for a Chesterfield? I’ll take 3
