While the RD400 might be better suited to our sister site, they’ve graced the pages of RSBFS from time to time with positive reactions. This one is in California and is advertised with only 8.1 miles. Unfortunately the pictures are terrible but I suppose no one is buying this sight unseen anyway. But if you want an instant new-old-stock collectible, this should fit the bill.

1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special for sale on eBay
from the seller:
1979 Yamaha RD 400 Daytona Special. Motorcycle in immaculate condition. Original 8.1 miles. This beauty has never seen the California roads. Original dealer in Berkeley, Ca did not retail or registered. Motorcycle has been stored and preserved for the last 35 years. This is truly a motorcycle that has been in a time capsule for its entire life. Must see to appreciate. Condition on this motorcycle is one of a kind, an investment that is going to grow and can be passed down for generations.
We are looking for the right person that will give this gem a good home.
$10K plus! Oh boy!
So you start your bidding at $10K with 5 crappy pics, two of which are thumbnails? Normal wear and patina never fully show up in pics, even good ones. Good luck to both the seller and the buyer. That said, the last two bikes I sold on ebay went overseas to Europe where price wasn’t an issue so you never know.
“We are looking for the right person ”
I guess they’re going to be picky about who they sell the bike to.(They might be a BMW dealer judging from they’re name).
I had a 75′ RD350, crashed the f*** out of it. Got a 76′ RD400 for a replacement. Loved those bikes.
So did I Alex(73) and the front end tended to tuck…not enough front weight bias. I almost lost mine once on a very dangerous ridge road. I backed off from then on. Sorry for your demise.
And the 400 was the corrected model.
My 400 c needed the points adjusted every 2nd day to keep it running ok , and the plugs cleaned every other day, I like 2 strokes.
If I’m going to ‘pass it down for generations’, it’s going to have a shedload more miles on it than 8.1! And way more ‘patina’ too.
Cheers
Barry
